“I was hoping I’d get to see you again,” Yang finally went on. The tension broke as the relaxed tone returned to her voice and the smile reappeared.

“Why?” Blake asked, frowning, finding and clinging to suspicion.

Yang shrugged, setting a hand on the bench between them. Though the hand was close to her thigh, Blake resisted the urge to pull it away. Yang had touched her before, hadn’t she? It had been a nice touch. That, at least, she could admit. Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad thing if Yang accidentally touched her again. This thought may have been completely at odds with her constant fear, but her skin craved something gentle.

“I don’t know yet!” Yang replied cheerfully. “Maybe, if we get to know each other better, I’ll find a reason.”

Art from an as-yet unwritten scene from my fic, Anchor, but I’m using a quote that’s from earlier in the fic to set the mood, lolol.

It’s been a while since I commented on rwby fandom stuff, but I feel it needs to be said and I’ve had time to sort of gather my thoughts. For reference: this is all coming from someone who’s been in Blake Belladonna’s boots. Abuse is shit and if you fetishize that, you’re not worth the scum on the bottom of said boots.

 I see an issue prevalent with Sun and shipping him with Blake and while I have NO issue with BS as a concept, I do find it problematic how.. primal some of the mentalities are surrounding them. A woman NEVER owes any man her body or love because he offers friendship- Sun himself in canon refutes this in a way with his “It was never about that” line.

 Sun is a good guy with some funky ways of showing it, but good none the less. I think it’s really.. disgusting to diminish his character to “deserves a woman’s love/body because he did good things.”

 On the other hand, I see something that ticks me off far worse.DO NOT objectify (that’s what you’re doing, she’s reduced to a “broken girl who the man can fix and get love/etc out of”) victims of abuse. Feel bad for what they go/have been through, but do not make them the “weakling who needs a big strong man to help and cure them” trope.

 Blake Belladonna is a complex character who’s a picture perfect story of recovering from an abuser, what you’re doing reduces her to a character who doesn’t learn and needs a big ol man to just push her around in the right directions. That’s not what she is.

 “We protect each other” is the antithesis of this mentality and the ACTUAL way you’d support a survivor. You’re here to work WITH them, not FOR them. They are NOT the prize you get for FIXING them, because you CANNOT fix them. Yang CANNOT fix Blake and the reverse is also true, but their relationship is about WORKING TOGETHER. Not for sex or love, but because they want to do what’s good for the other BECAUSE THEY LOVE EACH OTHER. That’s HEALTHY LOVE. The kind people portray BS as widely is PLASTIC LOVE. It’s a prize, a trinket- you don’t get meaningful results from boy saves and fixes girl. Boy should support girl and watch as SHE FIXES HERSELF.

 “Fixing” isn’t even the proper term, BETTERS herself is. She’s done so with Yang, without Yang- BLAKE IS STRONG. She doesn’t NEED a man or Yang, she WANTS to work with Yang. She WANTS to better herself.

You’re free to ship whatever you want, but don’t throw abuse survivors under the bus. We’ll survive your bus, but you won’t get any prize for “helping” us up.
