The biggest thing for me writing this sudden Sunny x Croc fic is for there to not be cheating spouses. Even if Sunny is unhappy, she won't do anything against her vows of marriage. It's not in her nature at all.
Buggy? He won't care. He'll kiss her despite being married to someone else. He wants to but if she tells him no, I'm married, back off, then he will. I don't want him to be too much of a creep in this.
So I'm trying very had to get this across. Little touches, someone blushes, things like that, maybe an accidental kiss trope where both parties are like oh fuck, but no illicit smooches because they both want each other.
Buggy knows what he wants but Sunny is having to deal with these feelings.
And it's kind of a challenge because I just wanna smack the two together like dolls and make them kiss now.

If you want to write a dumb little story with a dumb little plot and ridiculously silly characters. No one's stopping you. Genuinely, no one should be allowed to stop you. Write that dumb story with your whole heart and don't hold back.

(this has been on my mind since I started to write this. I'm just gonna throw post after post of this because I don't want it lingering in my head for too long. Inspiration for some of this was the song "Only The Music" by Heather Alexander/Alexander James Adams.)

Pt 7
Sunny didn't leave home for a few days, instead choosing to organize her things, mend anything that needed it, read some books, anything to take her mind off Buggy. He was annoying her with his questions about her marriage, and why would he think anyone else would want her after all this time? No one would attempt it once they knew who she was married to.
She made lunch and brought it to Crocodile when he was working in his office, trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy for the two of them. She sometimes wondered if he truly loved her or saw her more as his possession, but he held onto her long enough, knew how protective and possessive he was of her that she figured he'd never let her go.
She didn't want to admit it but the thought was incredibly depressing to her.
Crocodile seemed to pick up on his wife's mood. He gave her the freedom to leave their home, to explore, meet with the others, everything, yet she acted like a prisoner in their home, gazing out the windows, a sadness to her that he didn't want to see.
"Darling, we should have a party." He suggested as she put his food down on the desk, once more pulling her into his lap. She let him, sitting upright in his lap with a frown. A party? She wasn't keen on the idea considering the last get together they had she almost slapped Buggy.
"Do I need to do anything?" She asked as she looked at him. "Cook? Clean?"
"Wear that dress I just bought you, that sleeveless green one." He told her as he dragged his hook up her back, causing her to shudder. "Dress your best. We'll have important people over."
"Like who?"
"Don't worry about who's coming. I just want you to enjoy yourself." He leaned down and kissed her cheek, pressing his hook against her to bring her closer to him. She let him, frowning as she wondered why he wanted to host such a thing. It seemed ridiculous but she wouldn't argue with him. She didn't feel up to it.
~
It was beautiful. The dress Sunny wore was sleeveless with a slit up the side, fitting to her body. The shades of green decorated the fabric, giving the impression of reptile scales. Her hair was up in a tight bun, keep it it from her face. Crocodile always preferred her hair up.
Everyone who showed was dressed in their best. The food and drink were delicious, her husband and the other two looked handsome, and there was even dancing to be done. The only problem was getting someone to dance with her.
"Please?" She begged Crocodile as he sat at a table with Mihawk and Buggy, as well as others Sunny didn't recognize. All she wanted was a dance but her husband hated doing it. "One dance?"
"Hawkeyes, dance with my wife." Crocodile said; Sunny looked hopefully at the swordsman as he took a sip of his wine.
"I don't dance."
"Fine, I'll find someone-"
"Clown, you're a performer, dance with her." Crocodile didn't ask Buggy nicely, it was an order. The clown knew better than to refuse. He downed his drink and stood up as Sunny tried to suggest a different partner. "If you want a dance, darling, then it will be with the clown. I don't trust these people not to do something to you."
"Fine." She sighed and held her hand out to Buggy. He allowed her to take it, dragging him out to the rest of the dancers as a waltz started up. "You can dance, can't you? Or is my husband just assuming you can dance?"
"I can dance." He shot back as she took his hands and put one on her waist and took hold of the other. She put her hand on his shoulder, waiting for him to start. He didn't want to do this, be close to her, touching her even, but she stepped on his foot on purpose and he started moving, mentally counting the beat in his head to keep up with everyone. "Looks like you can dance."
"I've always wanted to." She admitted as he spun her around, catching her in his arms before starting again. "Though the opportunity never arose."
"Oh, so am I your first then?" He asked with a smirk, pulling her close to him before dipping her back, catching her by surprise. The way her eyes widened and she tightened her hold on him had him looking smug. He didn't miss the way her cheeks turned pink at what he said. "Your first dance partner, that is."
"You're terrible." Sunny grumbled as he laughed, pulling her back upright before starting the beat again.
One, two, three. One, two, three.
Buggy spun her, dipped her, and she loosened up a bit more each time, even laughing at one point. The last dip he pulled her up too fast, too close, their faces were close and he heard her breath catch when she looked into his eyes. The music ended and Buggy was still holding her. If they were among strangers he would have kissed her, but he could feel Crocodile and Mihawk's eyes on him so he let go and stepped back.
"Can we do another?" Sunny asked, sounding breathless with a smile. "Please, Buggy?"
He didn't want to. He wanted to get away from her because he hated how quickly he was falling in love with her. He hated how they argued, didn't quite get along, yet he hated she was with someone else because he wanted to be with her all the time, arguing over dumb things and being pests to each other.
He looked over in Crocodile's direction. He was watching Buggy, cigar clenched tightly in his teeth, expression unreadable and Buggy knew he was a dead clown either way at this point. He looked back at Sunny and nodded.
"One more."
One more dance turned into two more. Sunny refused to let her dance partner go, ignoring how her heart was racing in her chest when he'd touch her, or how he even smiled a few times when she'd tell him he was wonderful at it. She didn't want to stop but she needed a break. She was warm and tired, her skin flushed from all the movement. She got herself a drink and stepped outside. To her surprise Buggy followed her.
"You're quite the dancer." She smiled as she took a sip of her drink. "Never thought pirates could dance like that."
"Yea, well, I'm not a normal pirate, am I? I'm a performer, remember?" He shot back playfully with a wink as he enjoyed his own drink. The night air felt nice, cooling them both down from the dancing. "You're not so bad yourself."
"I always thought dancing was fun." She told him as she hugged herself, starting to regret coming out there. The air was starting to chill her a bit too much. "For some reason I thought I'd do more of it marrying someone like him, you know, with these kinds of parties happening, but he never wanted to."
Buggy knew he would regret this. His hand popped off, holding his drink as he slid his jacket off and put it over her shoulders. "No point ruining the night by getting cold."
"Oh, well-"
"Look, Sunny-"
"Are you two coming back in?" Mihawk interrupted. Buggy cursed the swordsman's timing. Sunny made a face as well as he looked at the two of them. They kept their distance even as Sunny tightened his jacket over her.
"In a minute. It's too warm in there." Sunny told him as she finished her drink. "Did my husband send you after me?"
"Clearly you've cooled down enough to come back inside." He said as she headed back in. Buggy started to follow after her but Mihawk stopped him. "I don't know what you two are playing at but he's not stupid, you know. You're going to get killed."
"We aren't doing anything!" Buggy shot back as he pushed his hand away. "I did what he asked which was to dance with his wife! And I'll keep dancing with her if she asks because no one else is!"
"Are you planning something?" Mihawk asked. "It would be in your best interest to stop now, Buggy."
"Stop? Stop what?" He suddenly laughed. "Am I supposed to stop falling in love with her? It's a little difficult when her husband keeps pushing her to me, Hawkeyes! Maybe you need to be talking to Crocodile about this, not me!" He tried to push past him, any thoughts for his safety gone as he wanted to get back to the others, back to Sunny for another dance.
"Stop pursuing her. It won't do you any good."
"I'm not doing anything!" The clown snapped. "Like I said, her husband keeps doing this, it's not my fault!"
Buggy went back inside. Sunny was sitting at the table beside her husband, Buggy's jacket draped over the back of her chair as she sipped a fresh drink. Crocodile was ignoring her, speaking to some business partner or something, Buggy didn't know. He glanced back at Mihawk. The swordsman gave him a look as he headed back over to the table. Maybe he could offer one more dance.
He straightened up and marched over to the table, clearing his throat. Sunny looked up, smiling when she saw him.
"Up for another dance?" She asked as she stood up. "I'm ready."
She didn't wait for an answer before grabbing his hand and pulling him out to the dance floor. It was a little more crowded this time; the two were closer together as another waltz started. Buggy couldn't impress her with moves this time but she seemed happy just to be dancing.
"Thank you for dancing with me tonight, Buggy." She said with a smile, giving his hand a squeeze. "I know we don't always get along, but I appreciate it."
"Yea, well, gotta keep you happy, right?" He laughed nervously, knowing Mihawk was watching the two of them while Crocodile conducted business. He wished Hawkeyes would look elsewhere. "You being happy makes your husband happy which means everyone's happy!"
"I guess." Her smile lessened so Buggy surprised her with spinning her around. She was caught off guard and laughed, allowing him to pull her back against him. "Warn me next time, okay?"
"Where's the fun in that?" He grinned. "I like seeing you surprised."
She stuck her tongue out at him as they moved about the dance floor. It was a little difficult, there were so many couples, and Buggy leaned down to say something to her when another couple bumped into them. He didn't try to stop himself, he didn't want to but he'd insist it was an accident in the end. When he was bumped, Sunny was as well, pushing her harshly into Buggy, their lips meeting for just a brief moment before he pulled back.
The look on her face was shock and he felt bad, but instead of slapping him or yelling at him, she took a step back and covered her mouth with her hand.
"I'm sorry."
She turned and walked off after that, taking herself back to her husband. If she stuck around Buggy she wasn't sure what she'd do next. Her feelings were starting to change for the clown, from animosity to attraction and it scared her. She returned to her seat next to him and he put his hand on her thigh. She glanced at Buggy as she took a sip of her drink.
Buggy eventually went to get himself another drink. He needed to forget this evening sooner rather than later.
Mihawk said nothing, having watched the two all evening. He poured himself more wine.

Pt 6
Sunny kept her distance from Buggy after the dinner. How dare he question her happiness with her marriage, it wasn't any of his business. Why did it matter to him? She hated that he asked, hated that he touched her, kissed the back of her hand, and she wished she did slap him for it.
If Crocodile found out then the clown would have been killed that night for sure.
She stopped going by the tent. She didn't want to be alone with him in case he asked those questions again.
No, she wasn't happy in her marriage but Buggy had no reason to know that. It didn't matter if she was anyway. She was stuck married to Crocodile if he had anything to say about it. He wouldn't let her go no matter how much she begged and fought him. She was stuck.
Sunny put on some comfortable clothes, deciding she wanted to go for a walk on the island. It would be safe. She knew she had to tell Crocodile or he would go looking for her. She didn't want to see him upset so she went to his office and knocked on the door.
"Come in." She heard him say, amusement in his voice. She opened the door and stepped in, making her way to his desk. "You knock so quietly, I always know it's you."
"Well, I don't want to interrupt you." Sunny told him with a shrug. "But I wanted to tell you I was going to go for a walk. You can come with me if you want?"
He reached for her hand and she let him take it, being pulled into his lap. She made herself comfortable, looking up at him as he reached up to tuck a few loose strands of hair behind her ear. She tried not to think of Buggy that night, how he kissed her hand, looked into her eyes, but it was hard. These two men were so different, but only one loved her. Buggy was a clown trying to play some dumb mind game with her.
"Is something on your mind, darling?" Crocodile asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.
"Oh, nothing, really." Sunny shrugged as she let her head rest against his chest. He was so much taller than her that even sitting she still felt so small in his arms. "Did you want to come along with me?"
"I would but I'm afraid I have a meeting soon." He told her, taking the cigar from his mouth and setting it aside. She nodded, figuring that would be the answer. He barely made himself available at night, it was dumb to think he would want to come along with her. Part of her was glad, though, because she wanted to be alone. She only asked so he wouldn't be upset. "I don't want you walking by yourself, however. Get the clown to go with you."
"The clown... what, why?" Sunny hoped he didn't notice how fast she responded. He hated Buggy. Why would he want him to tag along?
"Because if something happened to you, I could have a reason to kill him." Crocodile told her. It was so calm and casual Sunny almost didn't catch what he said. She sat up straighter and looked at him with a frown.
"If there's trouble I'll just push him towards it and run." She replied as he stroked her cheek gently, chuckling at her response.
"That's my girl."
~
Sunny stood in front of Buggy's tent and sighed. She didn't want to do this but she needed to get over the dinner. Buggy and Crocodile worked together, there was no doubt they would be interacting again and frequently. Grumbling to herself she stepped inside. Buggy was barking orders to his men as Richie lounged nearby, peeking up when he saw Sunny enter.
The lion got up and hurried over to her, purring and yowling for attention which Sunny was happy to give. Buggy turned to see what had Richie agitated, only to swear under his breath when he saw Sunny.
"What are you doing here?" He demanded as Richie rolled onto his back. Sunny smiled and knelt down to rub his belly. Buggy had to look away. He didn't want to see her smile like that.
"I wanted to go for a walk and Crocodile wants you to come with me in case of trouble." She told him as she continued petting Richie. Buggy looked surprised by that.
"Really? Well, can you blame him? I am strong and a fierce fighter." He replied rather proudly, stroking his chin as he looked smug.
"Oh, no, it's just so he can kill you if something happens to me." She said, shattering his mood. She stood up and looked at Buggy, ignoring him crouched on the floor, looking defeated by her words. "Come on, clown. I need to stretch my legs."
~
Buggy kept several steps back as Sunny and Richie explored. The cat insisted on tagging omg, having taken a liking to Sunny. Buggy couldn't stand that. The damn cat was bouncing around like he was some kitten and Sunny kept laughing at his antics. He even pounced on a dandelion, the flood exploding into his face and getting stuck in his fur. He let out a pathetic whine and looked at her.
"You're such a baby." She giggled as she picked the seeds from his fur as Buggy watched with a frown.
"He's vicious, you know! He might bite you!" Buggy warned her. "I'm not pulling your arm out of his gut when he decides to take a chunk outta ya."
"Oh hush, he wouldn't hurt me." Sunny shot back as she finished cleaning Richie's face. "He's a big sweetie."
"Yea? Your husband the same way?" Buggy grumbled. Sunny looked at him and he stopped; they were staring at each other, Buggy wondering if he should have kept his mouth shut while Sunny debated on arguing with him again. She sighed and looked back at Richie.
"Shut up, Buggy."
"What?! I'm just saying, geez!" Buggy rolled his eyes as Sunny stood up and started walking again. Richie got up to follow after her, giving Buggy a look that had the clown wondering if maybe Richie would turn on him and not Sunny. He didn't want to find out. What he wanted to know was why Sunny married someone as vicious as Crocodile when she didn't seem to care about the man at all. "So, your marriage-"
He didn't get a chance to ask because Sunny stopped and let out a horrific scream. Buggy could still see her, she was standing upright, but why would she make such a noise? He rushed over to her and she ducked behind him, covering her face as she squealed in fear.
"What, what's wrong?!" Buggy demanded, frantically looking for any oncoming threat. He couldn't see anything. "Answer me, Sunny!"
She grabbed the back of his shirt with one hand while pointing shakily towards a small boulder. Buggy looked to where she was pointing. He couldn't believe it.
"It's a tiny little lizard!" He snapped at her as she kept her face hidden. A tiny pink lizard was basking in the sun peacefully, unbothered by Sunny's distress. "For crying out loud, I thought you were about to be killed!"
"I-I'm scared of lizards, Buggy!" She cried as Richie went over to sniff at it. It stuck its tongue out at him, startling the lion.
"You're married to one, geez!" Buggy went to shoo the lizard away. It didn't budge.
"I never wanted to be!"
Buggy turned to look at her. That just caused him to want to ask more questions. She didn't seem to realize what she said, sniffing loudly as she kept back from the lizard.
"You don't want to be married to him?" Buggy asked. "Then why the hell are you?!"
"What?" She looked up at him, wiping her eyes. "What are you talking about?"
"You just said you never wanted to marry Crocodile." Buggy reminded her, watching Sunny's eyes grow wide. "Why are you married to him then if you don't want to be?!"
She stared at him, brain trying to think of how to tell Buggy he misheard her. No, no, the clown didn't need to know anything about her marriage, but she was tired of pretending after all this time.
She sniffed, straightening up as he handed her a handkerchief from his pocket. She took it and wiped her face.
"You know how dangerous he is, Buggy." Sunny sighed. "You try saying no to him. He gets what he wants."
"You married him because you didn't want to say no?" He seemed confused by that. "Why marry someone you didn't want to be with?!"
"You're a damn idiot." Sunny told him. "You know, forget it." She tried to hand the handkerchief back to him but he couldn't take it so she stuck it in her pocket. "Just... Ignore what I said. I was distressed and not thinking."
"Why don't you just leave him then?" Buggy asked. He didn't want to drop it. He wanted to understand this situation because it was confusing for him, not to mention it could be useful to have dirt on Crocodile.
"I tried that, clown, when he was in prison!" She huffed in frustration and crossed her arms. "He still found me, okay, there's no leaving him. I'm married to him until either of us dies and that isn't happening any time soon." She looked over at Richie, the lion was sniffing the boulder. "Just... Forget it, Buggy. You don't understand so forget I said anything, please?"
He wanted to keep asking, he wanted answers, but the way she said please, turning to look at him with dull eyes, the brightness gone from them had him keeping his mouth shut.
For a moment.
"If you weren't with him then you could have a choice who you wanted to be with." Buggy told her as he clenched his fists. "There's others out there who would want to be with you!"
"That so?" Sunny chuckled softly. "You got someone lined up for me, Buggy? You're desperate to get rid of me, aren't you?"
"What if it was me?!" He asked. "What if I was with you?!"
Sunny froze, staring at him in surprise. He seemed to realize what he said, ready to make excuses, but she just started laughing.
"You're funny, Buggy." She smiled. "Thank you for making me laugh."
That wasn't his intention but he kept his mouth shut.

Pt 5
Having the other two over for dinner was not what Sunny had anticipated given how her husband felt about the clown. Mihawk made sense. The two were business partners. That's what started all of this, but Buggy? A thorn in Crocodile and Mihawk 's side. He had no reason to join them.
Crocodile requested she dress for the occasion though she wasn't sure why, but she did as she was asked. She bathed, brushed her hair, and pulled on a long sleeve dark green dress, one of her husband's favorites. She wore gold jewelry he had purchased for her over the years, things she didn't quite want to part with even after their brief separation.
A chain, rings similar to his on her fingers, and dangling earrings that would have been hidden by her hair had she decided not to put it up in the end.
When she joined them, the other men were already there. Mihawk was in his usual outfit, white shirt, form fitting pants, and his jacket. Buggy actually dressed nicely for this. Black pants, red shirt and a black vest made the look. Sunny frowned when she saw him and before greeting anyone, she marched over to him wordlessly. He took a step back, wondering what she was about to do.
She was fixing the buttons on his vest. Buggy had been so nervous he missed a button, causing his vest to look lopsided.
"I'm surprised you left your tent like this." She scolded him as she smoothed the vest out before making sure the collar of his shirt laid flat over it. "There. We can't have people looking unkept at our dinner table, Buggy."
He kept his hands away, making sure both Mihawk and Crocodile could see this. The swordsman had warned him to behave on their way over. How could he when she would just touch him without warning? She should behave!
She looked him over, giving him a nod of approval before leading them to the dinner table. She was disappointed her husband insisted she join them for dinner and not cook tonight.
Dinner was served promptly. Sunny sat beside Crocodile while Buggy sat across from her. He didn't know what he should be doing but he kept an eye on everyone else, matching their movements. They could kill him if he used the wrong fork. He would have enjoyed the food had he not been on edge the entire time.
It seemed to be going fine for a bit until Sunny mentioned wanting Buggy to teach her a few more things, startling the clown when he heard his name. His hand jerked, spilling food on his vest. He hoped it wouldn't stain.
"Oh, no, Buggy, let me handle that." Sunny offered as she stood up. "I can get stains out."
"I'm fine, keep eating!" Buggy insisted as he started to get up. "I can get it out!"
"Let her help." Crocodile told him as Mihawk watched Buggy. "She knows how to handle that kind of thing."
"Come with me." She left no room for argument, gesturing for him to follow as she headed for the kitchen. Buggy followed, glancing back at the others nervously as they stepped into the kitchen. He saw Sunny at the sink, getting a dish towel damp. "Take it off."
"P-Pardon?!" Buggy asked, jaw dropping in surprise. She looked back at him in amusement.
"Your vest." She told him. "Unless you need my help with that."
Buggy looked around, hoping someone else was around for a witness, but the two of them were alone. He did as he was told, removing the best and holding it out to her. She took it and laid it out on the counter, gently wiping at the small stain.
"It should be okay." She told him. "It doesn't look like it's going to stain."
"Th-Thanks." He managed to say as Sunny finished with the best, holding it up. "You really didn't have to. I don't want to take you away from your husband."
"That wouldn't be the worst thing." She chuckled as she handed it back to him. He gave her a look and her eyes widened slightly. "I mean, he and Mihawk are discussing business and it's a little boring for me. I imagine it might be boring for you as well."
Buggy shrugged as he pulled the vest back on. She started to button it back up, making sure none were missed. He hated how close she was, that he could smell the soap she used. He wondered how warm her hands felt, how soft her skin was, only to stop because if he wasn't careful her hands would be around his throat, choking him.
"Are you happy?" He suddenly asked. Sunny stopped and looked up at him. "Here? With him?"
Sunny was speechless. He actually asked her that. She wasn't sure how to answer that, nor did she want to. She pulled back from him, staring up at the clown as he waited for an answer.
Was she? No, not really. She never was from the moment they met and Crocodile decided he wanted her. It took several threats to her family and friends' safety for her to agree to it. If anyone asked, she would smile and insist yes, she was.
In Alabasta she was seen as the lovely wife of their hero, sweet and doting. She made appearances with him from time to time, silent and on his arm.
"Why would you ask such a question?" She asked him with a frown. "You don't just ask someone that, Buggy."
"It's a serious question!"
"That doesn't matter, you don't ask someone if they're happy in their marriage when you don't know them!" Sunny shot back as she took a step towards him, jabbing him in the chest with her finger.
"I can ask any question I want!" Buggy snapped, grabbing her by the wrist. "I don't have to listen to you all the time!"
She tried to pull her wrist out of his grasp but he held on. Her other hand came up, aimed to slap him, but he caught her hand, turning it to press a kiss to the back of it. He was in dangerous waters doing this, he knew that, but he needed to see how far he could step before it was too much.
Her face burned, she wanted to say something, but Buggy was dropping her hands and stepping back. He just let out a laugh as she clenched her fists, glaring at him.
"Just had to see something." He teased. "Sorry, I think I had too much to drink, Miss Sunny."
"You ass-"
"I won't remember any of this, y'know, so don't worry." He grinned. "I won't tell your husband anything."
"There is nothing to tell!" She hissed at him. "Now mind your manners and do not say a word to me once we go back in there."
"Nothing to talk about." Buggy mimicked zipping his lips. "I'm drunk. Just a drunk clown that no one will listen to."
"Exactly." Sunny agreed, face pink as she resisted striking him. He winked at her and started for the door. Sunny glared at the back of his head before she made sure her hair was perfect before following after him.
