The Anatomist by rosa_acicularis
This is a fic I bound as part of the California Renegade Guild server's Mini Exchange. My recipient sent me down a rabbit hole of Sherlock associated fic, but this is the one from her list that really grabbed me, shook me, and said, "you know what design this needs."
Tumblr media
The book is bound in two bookcloths: one is red neon slub from Hiromi Papers, and one an unidentified black book cloth that I got from an auction. The decorations are all hot stamp foil that I applied with my foil quill and Silhouette.

The end papers are by @renato-crepaldi. All the images are adapted from an early edition of Gray's Anatomy.

Tomorrow Is a Long Time. Doctor Who. Rose Tyler, The Doctor, characters from multiple eras. Mature. Spoilers for The Giggle.
If today was not an endless highway, if tonight was not a crooked trail, if tomorrow wasn't such a long time, then lonesome would mean nothing to you at all. Rose Tyler, on the road to Journey's End.
The walls are closing. She almost doesn’t make it through.
She lands hard on the other side, slamming shoulder first into the ground. The impact knocks the air out of her and she rolls onto her back, gasping for breath. A shimmer of golden light escapes on an exhale.
The sky is a wide grey dome overhead. There’s long grass beneath her, prickling against the skin of her hands and neck; the sounds of the ocean, the crash of waves and the call of seabirds. She turns her head and sees that she’s landed on a high grassy dune, overlooking a very familiar beach.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” she says, almost laughing. Almost in tears. She’s reaching for the mobile in her pocket when the TARDIS materialises down on the sand.

She lands in a car park off Kennington Road, near the Tesco Express. Less than a mile from the Estate. It’s the dead of night at eight o’clock in the morning, and there are twenty-six alien planets in the sky.
The photo on Donna’s phone couldn’t prepare her for the terrible reality of it – the bone-deep sense of wrong she feels every time she glances up. The streets around her are in chaos, and she can hear them in the distance – Daleks shouting orders, killing anyone who refuses to obey. There’s no time to think about anything else.
“Should’ve nicked that matter-disrupter,” she says, and runs towards the screaming.

We drifted here, in the lack-of-light, passing no-time. But we would feel it from so far away... your noisy, boiling universe. We want to travel there, to play your vicious games and win.

Doctor vs Master in terms of who I'd rather have as an enemy is Master all the fucking way. The thing about The Master is their number one priority is not their moral code or revenge or domination or being a villain no their number 1 priority no matter what is being high camp. If the master was after me I would just clap to lower the lights and make "masochism tango" start playing and then during the dance I'd cuff and collar them with some ridiculously strong stuff and at the end they'd be like "mon chéri...it seems you have foiled me for now, but we shall meet again" and then they'd kiss me hand and I probably would have at least a few years before they show up again. Whereas if you're not already in a deeply codependent situation ship and you piss off The Doctor their number one priority is Fucking Getting You. You can fuck off to the year 6 billion in the 13th dimension and they'll still find your ass and be like "I tripled your lifespan and also gave you anterograde amnesia so everyday you will wake up with fewer and fewer loved ones but the grief will be brand new" like jesus christ man i don't wanna deal with that

The house is lovely – white stucco grown over with ivy, a weathered tile roof and leaded glass windows that reflect the red-violet of the late evening sky. A sea of wildflowers blooms around the blue front door, alive with the flight of bees and small birds. A moment after Rose appears, the lamps along the garden path blink on.
The front windows are dark, but she sees a light at the back of the house, on the ground floor. It might be the kitchen; she catches a brief glimpse of a lavender jumper and long red hair.
Her mobile buzzes. A text message from Control, sent before it shuts down the cannon again. Please confirm safe arrival. What is your temporal-spatial location?
She turns to look at the rolling fields in the distance. The small wood behind her, and the narrow, winding road that leads to the front drive. Venus shines bright overhead, the night’s first stars appearing in the darkening sky.
Heaven, probably, she types back. Next check in 20.

“I’ve just received an email from the lovely Pete Bower… “In having one Doctor grieve for his lost love, while the other Doctor went off with that same lost love, you have written of that moment we all have where we make a choice. It is grieving for the love we never had (and the sex we never had) because of the choices we made.” It did work! I love that email.” — Russell T. Davies

Some universes are more comfortable than others.
It’s a summer night, cool and dry, and she’s walked for miles without any sign of civilization. There is only open space, tall grass and gently sloping hills that fill the horizon, the high painted dome of the sky and the sweet-green smell of wind in her hair. For the first time in weeks she stops and feels herself breathe. Hears her heartbeat in the silence.
There are no stars left in this universe, but the moon shines in the east, silver-white against the cloudless midnight blue. She slips out of her clothes, spreads her dark jacket over the grass and sheds the dry-sweat cling of her shirt and trousers. She lies naked in the moonlight, swallowed by wind-rustled grass and the stillness of the night sky.
She falls asleep minutes later, her fingers curled around the dark grip of her gun.

Shocking news, which is that as of two minutes ago Tomorrow Is a Long Time is done. Complete. Finished. Five new chapters and an epilogue written and edited and ready for posting.
I guess I'll start posting tomorrow? It's genuinely so weird to finally finish a writing project after so many years not doing that; I'm not sure what to do with myself.
What do people who finish things do? The dishes? I should probably do the dishes.
