"I kind of lost," DJ started and turned to look over either shoulder to see if she could spot her friend group, "the rest of my friends. So, no I'm not alone." There were so many people around, so many appearances to maintain and the added anxiety that came with barely knowing anyone here; and if she did know them, she still felt like an outsider looking into a world that wasn't hers. "But, yeah crowds aren't really my thing. This isn't really my speed either."
WHERE: griffith observatory
WHO: open to anyone!
“What? Are crowds not your thing?” Regardless of whether or not he knew someone, Augustin always spoke with a certain familiarity to chase off awkward silences and acquaintance tension. Now, he’d meandered to the outside to the outer balcony ring to enjoy the view and possibly smoke when he spotted someone standing alone, naturally wanting to strike up conversation. “I can leave you alone if you want, but you’re kind of in the wrong place to be solo. You know: a whole gala.” Augustin’s tone was not condescending, but playful as he wasn’t really judging the person for needing a breather. Even he was taking a moment.

In truth, DJ had somehow lost Azra and Deliah to the crowd of people and hadn't been able to reunite. So, to pass the time and to hopefully make it easier to find the rest of her friends, she elected to stay in place and enjoy a cocktail on her own without the social pressure of friends. She jumped when someone disturbed her solitude. DJ paused for a moment. She didn't look like herself outside of her stage costumes and the ROSEGOLD persona. Yet, to be associated with rich privilege was new. "Depressed?" was the only thing DJ managed to get out when questioning the person who had walked up to her. "This sounds like judging, no offense. I don't think you know who I am?"
WHEN, WHERE: griffith observatory, evening.
WHO: open to everyone.
his eyes are wandering around the room, playing more observing role than attending as he’s picking up the champagne flute from the tray. event wise — these never impressed him when it’s what he’d grow up with, watching the same faces, repetitive outfits at least few times a year. “ not that i’m judging, but drinking alone by the bar at charity gala isn’t the best look. don’t tell me people in need are making you so depressed, isn’t this going to start some rich privilege rumors ? ” his tone is soaked in sarcasm and playfulness as he takes the seat right next to them, a quick glance at their drink is enough to convince him that he can’t rely on just champagne for the entire night.

"I mean," DJ started. Her eyes trailed down her friend in the beautiful dress. In short, Azra always looked gorgeous and no dress would change that. Yet, DJ knew Azra better. Nothing short of perfect was ever good enough. So, a critique or comment was hard for DJ to make. Of course Azra looked beautiful because she always did. "It would be more of a statement if you were more subdue but you might combust if you were subtle."
"so, what do you think? how do i look?" she was clearly fishing for compliments, as azra harding knew that she looked stunning. she always looked beautiful. but the commotion was more for her dress than her, as the designer had painstakingly sewn every detail on the dress to be perfect, exactly how she wanted it. "isn't it just gorgeous?" she beamed proudly as she smoothed her hands along her stomach and down the dress.

DJ felt so deeply out of place at the Gala. The dress she was in was a beautiful piece picked out by Azra and Deliah because DJ truly had no idea what to wear. Formal wasn't her normal setting. Her onstage outfits were high glam, high camp and ridiculous. Her offstage looks were comfortable and simple. She never thought she'd have to dress up for an event like this because the idea that she would be a celebrity invited to a charity gala was a dream, not anything based in reality.
Now, she was here, awkwardly holding her glass and watching everyone dance. DJ wasn't sure if she she mingle with others or try her best to find the friends who had helped her feel like she belonged here. She was surprised with how people could just start conversations with her, regardless if they recognized her or not. But DJ's eyebrows raised when Daisy spoke to her. Similar genres, similar audiences. Now, an opportunity to network with peers in her same craft.
By the time DJ had realized Daisy was finished asking their question, DJ's eyes widened, realizing it was her turn to speak. "Yeah, no the food sucks because its for rich people who think expensive is a taste," she sputtered without thinking.
WHEN + WHERE: griffith observatory, evening. WHO: open <3
these type of events? not daisy's venue. she was happy to stand around with a glass of wine and smile for pictures, but all of the other elements of a gala made their skin crawl.
she barely knew these people, had nothing in common with them. and she was meant to...mingle? they weren't too sure. it certainly didn't help that she was so hungry. the food they had been handing around was nothing daisy would ever reach for herself. she'd tried to take a new bites of something but the second she had tasted mushroom, she'd spat it out into a napkin.
"so, uh...", daisy started abruptly, turning to the body beside her. "did you, ya'know - " daisy gave a half shrug, trying to think of how to phrase what she wanted to say, "- did you like the food? because i...did not." they held up their phone, giving an awkward smile. "i was gonna uber eats. did you want anything?"

muse intro: dj kato aka rosegold
˖ ࣪ . ׅ ★ ˚ . myoui mina, cisfemale, she/her + chappell roan ⭐️ gracing news headlines the one and only, DEBORAH JANE 'DJ' KATO aka ROSEGOLD, luckily this twenty-seven year old has been only spotted in their alexander wang hoodie and probably listening to dancing queen by abba on their airpods max. they've been described as gentle, but starlet.com claims they are more timid though it's impossible to tell when you only see them sleeping in three day old makeup, drunk texting their exes way past midnight, the crippling anxiety of overnight success and the desire to drink the night away. anyways, make sure you keep your notifications on them to be up to date with their latest project, the rise and fall of a midwest princess and who knows, maybe their blind item will get posted soon.
hello, a bit about me! my name is mars (she/her). im very busy with classes (english and gender studies double major, with a history minor and a deep love for queer literary history) and personal writing projects, but i will try my best to be active. i wanted to join a group to try and practice the writing skills im obtaining in my english courses. i absolutely love the art and act of writing. i tend to pick up characters i want to explore the headspace of, so the same is true for dj.
rather humble beginnings of a girl with a guitar on SoundCloud getting the smallest bit of traction.
never was one for school and struggled her way through high school. applied for college, but dropped out after one year at a community college.
made the impulsive decision to pack up and move to california with only a couple hundred dollars, her beat up truck and her guitar.
she began networking with other small, queer artists (wanted connection).
due to being small and independent, she was able to create her own persona which pulls from 80's camp.
a couple of her singles made the way through lesbian and sapphic spaces a few years prior and slowly made their way into the rest of the queer community.
this led her to being picked up by a small label to compile her singles into a studio album along with new songs, work with a real producer (wanted connection) etc etc.
these singles have breeched into mainstream, recently, at the same time of her recording her studio album.
within 24-48 hours, several TikToks and videos of her sets at smaller music festivals or her concerts went viral.
and dj has no idea how to handle this since she never set out to be a pop star, she just wanted to make music.
currently, she is trying to manage having a rather awkward personality she never really had to hide due to how small her fanbase was to now the general public expecting her to act like a lot of the other big name pop stars. tldr: she has no media training and too much social anxiety to navigate her interviews without fumbles.
