You said you wanted something about overlapping on Yuri and Hitomi, and Aono if possible, so I'm glad to say that I did come up with something! I tried to imagine how Aono may have felt during those brief weeks of dating Yuri, by his own admission not feeling a strong attachment to her at the time and I came up with this...

Ramblings about the composition below cut:

First, the flowers:

Hitomi - I knew right away that I wanted her surrounded by red-spider lilies, as many of you probably know this is a flower that carries a lot of ominous meanings in Japan, among them they are often referred as the death or hell flowers, because of the belief that they grew on the banks of the underworld river, but also in the flower language you are not supposed to give a bouquet of these because it's supposed to mean that you'll never see each other again, a more tragic symbolism is that of the star-crossed lovers, represented by the petals and leaves facing opposite ways and never meeting each other which made me think about her and her late husband.

Yuri - Hers were a bit difficult to decide, I knew I wanted yellow flowers, but I couldn't decide which ones so I dived down until funnily enough I found these, called golden hurricane or yellow spider lilies, and yes, the similarities between these and Hitomi's flowers were the deciding factor on choosing them, but the way I drew them I wanted to emphasize a brightness and softness, and also, the chinese name for this flower refers to smile, so I think it was appropriate for her, also how they represent renewal and hope.

Aono - His were the last one's I chose, because of his name I wanted to draw blue flowers, because of his name having the kanji for the color, and when looking I came across the hydrangeas, a flower that has tricky meanings, both positive and negative specially depending on its color, blue hydrangeas are associated with fickleness of the heart (so they're not used in weddings), remorse, gratitude and even cold and indifference, they also feature in a legend involving the eight immortals and a dragon king (*hint* :P)

oh yeah, all the flowers are poisonous, I also specifically searched the flowers for this specific requirement, the red-spider lilies toxicity is more or less knows, so not much to add here, but yeah maybe Yuri looks so bright and blinding, but the flowers aren't just pretty or for show, and she also has her own poison, and as the scientific names of both flowers say (Lycoris radiata and Lycoris Aurea) they're both from the same genus.

For the background colors I wanted this progression from morning to sunset and finally night, with Yuri, Aono and Hitomi, but also wanted it to be Yuri and Hitomi being somewhat similar but also different and opposite sides of Aono, as if he's trapped between them.

And finally the phrase, I wanted something that sounded innocent and normal, but actually for the ones in the know for this manga, it carried A LOT more baggage than just that. both Yuri and Hitomi are meant to be shown from Aono's PoV, that's why Yuri is meant to be looking slightly up because Aono is taller than her while Hitomi is looking down, as it's a childhood memory of... happier? times.

HOUSEKI NO KUNI AU

Welcome to my newfound way to scratch the Au idea :P (click on alt to read description if my writing is too crappy to read :'D)

so yeah, recently I re-read HnK and I felt compelled to imagine an AU with the Arc V characters... which I know it will not make sense to a lot of people because it's literally an AU of a spin-off series with a seinen series that despite having a brief popularity period is considered obscure by many, as you can imagine I ended up researching way too much about gemstones, buddhist monk robes, sea creatures and plants.

For those who know nothing about gemstones, hardness of a gemstone is measured with something called the Mohs scale, from 1 to 10, as you can probably guess diamonds are on the 10 on the scale with something like Talc on the 1, hardness is meant to measure a gemstone resistance to scratches and abrasion, BUT just because a gem has a good hardness, it doesn't make it resilient, that's where the things like Toughness and Cleavage comes, because using diamonds as an example again, yes they rate a 10 in hardness, but they are surprisingly easy to break on impact because they have a perfect cleavage, which unlike the name suggest is not a good thing to have, Toughness only has four categories: poor, fair, good and excellent, and diamonds at best, rate on Good, most do on Fair, in contrast a gemstone like Jade that has a 6 in hardness but has an excellent toughness and no cleavage whatsoever so despite being more easily chipped you could say a jade is more resilient than a diamond.

Why did I bother telling you this? Because in Hnk, these stats are kinda important for the gems, more in the beginning than later, but it remains as a worry in the titular gem people.

In this AU I tried to do less equivalences and more like parallels of the HnK plot, but it sort of goes like this:

Yuzu is meant to be Phos, I chose a gemstone that resembled her pink shade the closest but also for minor symbolism purposes, I wanted to choose a gem that was like Phos, brittle and fragile but with lots of motivation, Serena is a blue quartz, I was tempted to make her a harder gem, but I like it better as her being above average idk, Rin was really hard to decide, because there aren't many gemstone that resemble her hair color nor the stats I wanted to portray, I chose Apatite because I feel it was the closest hue, and the closest properties to what I wanted to portray about her: lower on the scale of hardness but resilient, and finally Ruri is a purple topaz because it was perfect for her: highest hardness for the four, but also brittle and perfect cleavage...

Yuya is Kongo-sensei (or Adamant if you prefer that translation) but here I had him being called Brother, both because Yuya looks waay younger than Kongo, but also kinda works on the context of him looking like a buddhist monk, and yes I gave him odd-eyes, I regret nothing :P

Reiji is Aechmea, the Lunarian Prince, the ones who commands the forces that attack the gemstones in search for forcing Yuya does his purpose... his name is an outdated scientific name for the red-spider lily, because in Hnk the lunarians have plant-related names, but also because of spoilery symbolism and meaning of the word, yes, lunarians also have bunny ears, so enjoy him with those :3

You have probably noticed that I didn't mention what character Serena, Rin and Ruri represent... and that's because the other don't have a direct equivalence on the canon HnK, but if you've read the story you'll be able to spot who are they partially based on, but also I wanted to adapt the character arc of Phos into Yuzu while also respecting what they are in Arc V canon.

Under the line, I'll put images, some plot points that I thought about, why under the line? Because lots of it can count as spoilers with no context for Hnk, and one of those is a straight up spoiler for how the main HnK protag ends like, if you ever intent to read it, tread carefully and consider yourself warned. (unless you don't mind spoilers lol)

Chronogical timeline

Serena is taken to the moon and Yuzu loses her arms, while Serena's are recovered.

Yuzu meets Reira and is given the shell, no one knows what to do with until Yuya notices it has Ruri's remains which they scrap off it leaving it to recover it's original blue color.

Reira leaves the shell even as Yuzu tries to give it back but she says that "her ancestor must be resting in piece now because she can't hear her voice anymore", Yuzu gives her a loose piece of herself as proof of forgiveness.

In the following winter he becomes too confident having "learned" Serena's fighting skills and took over winter duty, because most of her body was brittle low in hardness she was already in a pinch and then she heard the voices of the ice floes that distracted her enough for her to lose her legs after an attack, and upon waking up, Yuya realized they only had purple fluorite and Ruri's pieces, which happened to be compatible after a minor test and made Yuzu new legs, now Yuzu's body is barely half of her original body.

During this process, Yuzu becomes increasingly unstable and short-tempered due to the memory loss that comes with losing body parts, while her body and inclusions were very compatible with Serena's and Ruri's remains, her mind has been showing her things that she has no way of knowing, she she asks Yuya about it, it's the first time she heard him say "I'm unable to say anything else" leaving her at loss.

One day she finds Reira ashore again, and this time she sees her humanoid form for the first time, since now she had learned how to use it, and she tries to propose the alliance of the Admirabilis and the gems, unfortunately just as Yuzu was about to be convinced a new lunarian sunspot appears in the sky, and they go after Yuzu.

Just as she was about to be captured, she's rescued by Reira's giant jellyfish form who tries to fight off the lunarians but is instead taken prisoner to the moon, Yuzu doesn't even realize because her head had been taken too, and lies on the shore until another gem finds her unconscious body.

Yuzu wakes up after a coma of 100 years with the surprise that she now has green and short hair and strangely enough, she feels smarter and clear-headed than before. Other gems notice that she acts more like Rin than herself.

And that's all I have so far! Will I ever complete this into a full AU? In doodles or sketches maybe? Will I write a fic about it? ...Probably not ^^' that's why I called it "scratch the itch of an AU"

For something different I suppose.

Here's one of the first illustrations I've made fully with colored pencils in a really long time, and I'm actually pretty proud of the result.

The water was especially challenging to get right, particularly the part with the reflection and the lights but I think I managed.

Despite what it looks like online, I've actually been working with lots of thing involving my art in the past year and a half I went back to school, I just don't think most of them are super interesting to be uploaded because they were made mostly as practice or excersises to apply something we learned.

But this one I actually want to share here, because in even though I still love the og very much, I think I managed to do a good version with just vector shapes, all of it, the figure, the background, the effects, and my teacher agreed so I got full marks on this that was actually the final test for that class!

Ushas as usual is so pretty, she looks good in both styles ✨️

I hadn't made a watercolor drawing in a while and I Ushas' design is so pretty and perfect for this style 👀

Because we never saw a proper full view of both her dress and her hair, I more than likely made a few mistakes in them... and if a certain rakshasa does end up living for that long, we'll probably never see her adult form again.

So, here she is, wishing us well, with her umbrella made of starlight and at the edge of dawn 🥺

I don't think I ever mentioned it anywhere, but it's already been about a year since I changed my drawing tablet, along with the main software I use (switched from Ibis to CSP) which then led me to sell the old one and stupid me, before restoring it to factory settings, I forgot double checking that along with my image files, I should have also exported the work files of many of my drawings 😭, which led me to losing lots of them in the process.

I recently managed to recover some of then, but not fully finished, most of them barely have the sketched parts and some have unfinished linearts.

This was one of them, and I remembered that this was one of the cases where I lamented that so many of the nice details of my sketch had been lost due to my then, limited knowledge of coloring and rendering (seriously what was I thinking with the hair 😵?) so I wanted to do a redraw of it.

It wasn’t just the coloring I corrected, not sure how much Tumblr will compress this, but if you look closely I fixed the lineart, the clothing and some parts of the anatomy because I definitely had made Leez way more slender than she is, and added the boots.

The background I pretty much re-did from scratch and added some subtle movement lines, and while I still have to practice that part, I'm happy with the result, it's really encouraging to see my progress like this ✨️

From now on all my artwork in this blog has been replaced with glazed versions of it.

Yeah, I'm nowhere close to being a big artist or anything, some of you will probably think if it was even necessary for someone like me to do it, but tbh? At the rate certain companies and CEO keep pushing generative slop as the "next big art thingy" is infuriating so I'd rather go through all the bother than giving them even the slightest smidge of my limited art talent to train their "art" grinders.

Unfortunately that means I had to edit some of the og artposts to delete the sketch parts and other that I couldn’t recover from moving devices and the like.

Sorry if that's a bother for anyone 🥺

I have been kinda busy at school, because I joined a group to learn how to animate, and basically this was the first activity 💧🔥

The original assignment was to do the 4 elements, water, fire, earth and wind, but at the end we were taking ao long that they let us do just the first two 😅

I'm still learning, particularly the timing isn't the best here, but I'm actually pleased with how the transitions looks from water to fire at least 👀

Yes this is Uta from the One Piece movie, and yes she has a duel disk, because they wanted me to draw her as an entertainment duelist, I even came up with a design for her own personalized disk, I based myself more of the DDD movie since I realized she's supposed to be a virtual idol.

I don't think I ever posted this here.

Back in October, during the day of Indigenous people we had an assignment to make at school, we were all assigned a specific indigenous group and told to make an illustration that reflected something significant about them.

I got the Lancandons, whose beliefs place a huge importance in the mushrooms, in big part because they live in the jungle and the high humidity produces many types of mushrooms, so I went and searched for pics of these mushrooms and made this 🍄

I actually did this in physical, with black paper and colored pencils ✨️
