4 ways to avoid germs abroad
Being sick while traveling is on no one's checklist, yet we often forget to take precautions to avoid cooties. To help make sure we continue living our best lives abroad, here are 4 ways to avoid germs while traveling:
1. LATHER UP
Consider how many people cross our paths though airports alone, A LOT. Boarding passes and passports exchange hands with agents that have been swapping germs with travelers all day.
We run across people from all around the globe. There's always one person that missed the memo that sharing is caring does not apply to germs. Washing our hands is an simple way to reduce our chances of getting sick.
2. GET SHOTS
Check in with your primary care doctor to confirm that your shots are up-to-date. Tetanus boosters are recommended every 10 years.
When planning adventures abroad be mindful of recommended and required vaccinations for your travel destination. In 'Murrica; measles, mumps, hepatitis A & B are required vaccinations, but the flu and meningitis are recommendations. Vaccination requirements vary from country to country.
3. DRINK UP
There are two types of travelers; the free-spirit and the Energizer Bunny. The free-spirit is cool, breezy, and flows easy like Sunday morning. The Energizer Bunny is extra, builds itineraries, and keeps going and going to squeeze out every ounce of adventure. I'm the latter.
Hydration is important for both types of travelers. Cabin humidity is low, it sucks us dry and leads to dehydration if we aren't replenishing. Water is our friend. It reduces jet lag , carries nutrients to their proper destinations, and flushes away the toxins. Water also boosts our immune systems. Drink up!
4. THINK BEFORE EATING
Toto we're not in Kansas anymore! Our sanitary standards do not apply to everyone. It's especially important to remember that when traveling to developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America because sanitary standards are questionable.
When water quality in developing countries is less than great, drink bottled water and lean towards cooked foods. In my experience, hotels in countries with risky water usually provide 1 to 2 bottled waters per day at no cost.
Try to avoid ice, raw fruits and uncooked veggies. Traveler's diarrhea is a common result of indulging in contaminated goodies, so think before you eat.
I'm a food groupie and avid eater, so I carry traveler's diarrhea pills everywhere. Pills are a reasonably priced and available over-the-counter, so why not?

For fourty-four dollars I got intimate w/ the architecture of Chicago via boat. Worth it! 😍Started crushing on Chicago really HARD after learning about its dopeness. Snapped a ton of Pulitzer worthy shots during the cruise. Chicago Architecture Foundation's First Lady Cruises is the 🔌. www.architecture.org

[Click photo to see more] Wat Mongkhon Bophit, Ayutthaya. It’s the home of Phra Mongkhon Bophit, a Buddha image covered in gold leaf and sitting in Subduing Mara pose. Who is Mara? Oh, a woman that tried to get Buddha to detour from his path of enlightenment.

[Click photo to see more] Jumping again (see photo #2). It was hotter than hell, so I should’ve taken several seats. In the distance is Wat Mongkhon Bophit, an active temple compound. Wat Phra Si Sanphet (see previous post) is adjacent.

[Click photo to see more] Wat Phra Sri Sanphet used to be the holiest temple (at the old Royal Palace site) until the Burmese-Siamese War (1765-1767) literally ruined it.

Happy Bastille Day! 🇫🇷 My dad was born in France, so I like to pretend i'm French. Here's a photo of man-made "beach" I smiled at in Paris before running to Berthillon for something real (gelato + a crêpe). (at Paris-Plage)

Tiny Thai-style pavilion w/ a big name and four porches. Phra Thinang (Royal Residence) Aisawan Thiphya-Art (The divine seat of personal freedom) sits in the middle of an outer pond at the Bang Pa-in Palace. (Click photo to see more)
This pavilion was built for changing regalia before mounting a palanquin and is a copy of the Phra Thinang Aphonphimok Prasat at the Grand Palace.

Views from Ho Withun Thasana (Sages' Lookout) tower are worth the stair crawl. Also located at the Bang Pa-In Palace, Ayutthaya, Thailand. I had to rent a sarong to cover up, my Bermuda shorts didn’t quite reach my knees. (Click photo to see more)
