I agree, fhdw fandom desperately needs this.
How to spot a smear campaign:
Victims’s “crimes” will be enlarged, and even if they’re small missteps, they will be treated as if only the worst person on the planet would do such a thing
Accusations against the victim will always be a reach, aka, they did ‘this little thing’ but it actually means they’re a racist/murderer/genocide supporter/fascist/have blood on their hands, even when the person’s actions never conformed to those crimes
All and any actions of the victims will be misenterpreted in the worst possible way, anything the person does will be taken as an offense and intentions will be read as hostile and manipulative, regardless of how clear they are
All victim’s actions will be taken out of context; ie, victim said something cruel to someone, but they take out the context of the victim being abused, threatened, tortured, forced into defense mode and finally attacking out of desperation to defend themselves and get free
The victim will commonly get provoked into giving a bad reaction, (anyone gets defensive if they’re accused of the crimes they never did, or simply triggering insults until they snap), and the reaction will become the new ‘proof’ that the victim is in fact, evil and guilty
A lot of pressure will be put on you to react ‘correctly’ to the smear campaign; if you don’t accept to demonize this person at once, you’re getting scrutinized, shamed for your lack of morality, told that you support all these horrid things and that you are just as despicable
You will notice a trend of people ganging together based on their demonization of the victim; they will set a standard where you’re accepted and welcome if only you also will demonize and hate this person, and if you don’t, you’re blocked, cast out, and accused of causing harm
It will feel very easy to accept to demonize this person, and going against it will feel risky, like going against the grain, doubting the word of the many and risking being demonized yourself.
The smear campaign continues all the way until the victim is chased out of the community and denied a voice, even if the victim commits no further crimes, awful things will be said about them, their past ‘misdeeds’ continually brought up, until the victim is commonly believed to be worthless, and becomes completely isolated, scared of society and alone
There will be no limit to what is considered okay to do to the victim of a smear campaign; even if the victim is accused of minor bad behaviour, it will become okay to threaten, insult, shout slurs, trigger, provoke, humiliate, manipulate, and repeat any kind of abusive behaviour to the victim, all because ‘they’re bad so they deserve it’.
People leading the smear campaign will switch between being ‘extremely grossed out and enraged’ to showing absolute joy and satisfaction when they find a new reason to demonize and smear the victim. People truly horrified of someone’s actions do not get a leap of joy when a new disaster happens, they’re not beside themselves to abuse the perpetrator all over again.
It will never, ever be acceptable to show any mercy to the victim. Forgiveness is out of the question, trying to understand them is out of the question. Even reading or listening to what this person is saying will be banned and forbidden, unless it’s for humiliating purposes. They will be shown as absolutely irredeemable, and associating yourself with them as evil and unforgivable. You will be instructed to block or unfollow or report the person based on what you’re told, without any significant proof.
Do not fall for smear campaigns. If a large amount of people all agree that a person is the worst, but their story is exaggerated, out of context, sounds fictional, and doesn’t show any proof, and the people switch from being enraged to eager, doubt it. Participating in a smear campaign will help the abusers isolate and abuse someone, and you do not want to be a part of it. They will also smear anyone who stands up to their abuse, so you’re helping the abusers to create a place where pointing out abuse gets you cast out of the community.

this is cool
I love seeing the references/ easter eggs in Fablehaven. there’s
-The sack of gales, which is the bag odysseus got from aeolus in The Odyssey
-The Octopus’s Garden, which is a Beatles song, is referenced because Remulon (octopus demon) has an underwater garden
- The man who tells Seth about the Lady Luck might be Nereus, the old man of the sea, though in an interview, Brandon Mull says he “… comes from a ghost story I heard on Hatteras Island off the coast of North Carolina. The story tells of a gray man who sometimes appeared on the beach to warn people before storms, so I included a similar apparition when I had my characters embark on a journey from the Outer Banks.”
- The astrids might be a reference to the myth of Icarus?
- The steppe pyramids at Living Mirage are mentioned to have gardens. In reality, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. They’re supposed to be on a steppe pyramid. However, the Hanging Gardens are the only one of the Seven Wonders for which the location has not been definitively established. They would be in modern day Syria, Iraq, or Turkey. In the Fablehaven universe, they might have disappeared when Living Mirage was established.
- The Beckoning Grove features a lot of literal “forbidden fruit”, much like the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Interestingly, Living Mirage, being in Eastern Turkey, is very close to where scholars say the “real” Garden of Eden would have been.
- The giant rats in the catacombs of Terrabelle might’ve a reference to the ROUSes in The Princess Bride. ROUS stands for “rodent of unusual size”.
- Part of Stratos was lost to the sea. A lost civilisation that sank beneath the waves? Sounds a lot like Atlantis.
-The giants used to live in the sky. In Jack and the Beanstalk, giants also lived in the sky. The giants call Ronodin “the giant killer”, a moniker that Jack also used. In Jack the Giant Killer, Jack kills a two-headed giant and a three-headed giant. Fun fact: in CotTG, Ptolemy (the three-headed giant) is referred to as an “ettin”, which usually have two heads. “Ettin” is an Old English word related to Old Norse  jötunn, meaning giant.
- In Arabic, sorcerers are referred to as “the blowers in knots”. When they make incantations, they blow on knots. Untying the knots would break the spell. This is much like the first book, with the witch Muriel.
- The Font of Immortality is an awful lot like the Holy Grail
-Silvian, language of the fairies, sounds like “sylph-ian”- something sylphlike. Sylphs are vain spirits of the air that the Swiss German physician and alchemist Paracelsus posited were real and named.
- In Celtic folklore, “the Fair Folk” is a term used to discreetly refer to faeries. Calling them something unkind might bring their otherworldly wrath down upon you. Simply using “fairy” is considered an insult. They also have no division into good or evil, light or dark, like most European elves do. Take, for example, the Seelie Court and the Unseelie Court; both are dangerous, but the former is more benevolent and the latter is more malevolent.
-Frosted Peaks is possibly shangri-la
- The references Brandon Mull makes to Dante’s Divine comedy, naming characters Dante and Virgil, and naming a sword Omagion, are likely because his college comedy troupe was called Divine Comedy

My answers to the reading questions.
1. Seth wielded two swords throughout much of the book. What are the pros and cons of each weapon? If you had the chance to battle using either Vasilis or the Unforgiving Blade, which would you choose? Why?
The pros of Vasilis is it gives him a lot of strength, makes him braver, inspires fear in his enemies, and basically fights for him. The cons are that he could become obsessed like Morisant, the more he uses it the weaker he becomes without it, and he could learn to rely on it too much. The pros for the unforgivable blade is he is feared by his enemies. The cons is that he gets pulled into a trance. I would choose Vasilis because it fights for you.
2. Calvin wanted to break the nipsie curse since book one of Dragonwatch. In what ways did Seth help Calvin succeed? In what ways did Calvin help Seth? Could one have succeeded without the other? Explain.
Seth helped Calvin by retrieving the pieces of the Ethergem and restoring it, something Calvin could not have done alone. Calvin was a really good scout and good at getting information, it would have been so much harder for Seth without him.
3. Five monarchs ruled the magical world when this series began. Which two crowns remain at the end? How might this new situation change the balance of power in the magical world?
The Fairy Crown and the Under Crown were the original crowns, so I think balance would be restored. All is what once was. The other species probably fought way more over the crowns than the fairies and the undead did. So more peace as well.
4. Bracken chose to become mortal at the end of the story in part so he could be closer to Kendra. What other reasons did he have for making that choice? Do you agree with his decision? Why or why not?
Because Brandy’s a chicken and won’t make Kendra and Seth eternals. But another reason could be he didn’t want to be part of a kingdom that is okay with literal torture, by putting Ronodin in the demon prison, mostly because of a mistake he made out of love. So I in part agree with his decision, but I think Kendra and Seth would make badass eternals so I’m salty.
5. If you could visit the Source, would you drink from it, bathe in it, or just look at it? Explain why.
I’d bathe in it, I’d like to be healthy and possibly gain cool powers, thank you. Would not want to be immortal though, who would?
6. Kendra spent much of this series away from her brother. In what ways did their time apart allow her to grow? In what ways could Seth have aided her? In what ways might he have made her job harder?
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HE’S ACTING LIKE THERE WAS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT LMAOOOO. Kendra also did nothing of importance, Seth did all of it.
7. Do you think Virgil was ever a true friend to Seth or Kendra? Why or why not? What were his reasons for the final choice he made? How do you think he felt about the way things turned out?
I think he was pretty cool at first, then he became a little bitch when Humbuggle waddled along. Bet he was only upset for being put in a dungeon or wherever he was put.
8. If you could experience being tiny or gigantic, which would you choose? Why? Calvin changed size throughout the story. If you could choose a permanent size for him, what would it be?
I would choose being tiny, imagine all the tiny spaces you could find. There’s a room in the attic that we can’t get to in my house and I’d love to see it. I think Calvin was better tiny though.
9. Vanessa lost her sight in the Dragon Temple. How does she proceed after the blindness occurred? As a narco-blix, what extra abilities does she possess to help her cope with the loss?
She doesn’t look back, she focuses on the future. Pun intended. I mean, with her basically possessing people at least she can see through their eyes, so the loss wouldn’t hit as hard.
10. Earlier in this series, we received hints that there were other Fairy Queens before Bracken’s mother held the position. How do you think Bracken’s mother felt about surrendering the crown? Why? How might the Fairy Realm be different with the Alderfairy wearing the crown?
It said that she felt relieved, surrendering it. I think the fairy realm would be better, seeing as she blamed Ronodin and the Astrids for no good reason. Sure, Ronodin might have done bad things later on but if he wasn’t rejected for that mistake he might have not done them.
11. Konrad’s history has layers to it. Why did he choose to share parts of the story rather than the whole tale? Do you think he was right to do so? Explain.
I mean, you get all of that fame and power to yourself, if people had known the stories were fake, people would have gotten braver and would’ve volunteered. It’s not totally bad to keep things for your benefit, you know? It helped his family a lot. Don’t like how it led to dragon slavery and all of that. You gotta do what you gotta do to get that coin.
12. Who do you think was the most effective Dragon Slayer in the story? Why? Who was your favorite Dragon Slayer?
LMAOOO HERE HE IS AGAIN, PRETENDING SOMETHING EXISTS. The Dragon Slayers didn’t do shit, and we all know it. But if I picked a favorite it’d be the no homo girl, Nadia, was it?
13. Sasquatches blur the line between reality and fantasy, because some people believe in them, while others don’t. Do you think sasquatches are real? Why or why not? What other cryptids interest you?
I have no opinion on whether sasquatches are real or not. Off of the top of my head I can’t think of other cryptids I’m interested in.
14. What has Seth learned since the beginning of his adventure? What has Kendra learned over the same period? Do you think they are more capable adventurers than at the start of Fablehaven? Do you expect them to seek adventure or avoid it in the future? Explain your answers.
LMAO HE’S SAYING THAT THERE’S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AGAIN, and the character’s should definitely get therapy.
15. After the fourth book of Dragonwatch was published, some people told Brandon Mull there was too much unfinished business for him to wrap up the story in one book. Should those people be sorry? Did you feel that way? If so, are you sorry? How sorry?
Not sorry, clearly.
I know my answers are shit and queen is coming after them right as I’m typing this.
This was @fairyqueenofthedragons idea

Ah, I see. So I was giving him to much credit, turns out (surprise, surprise) he’s a hypocrite! Him and my dad have something in common LMAO
Like- like Brandon does know that Bracken being mortal does *not* take away from the years he's lived right?
That does nothing for it?
I don't have an issue with the ship but I might just out of spite for how it was handled-

frfr, but the way I see it Bracken is mentally 17, even with all of those years he still thinks and acts 17.
Hate to give Brandy credit but he totally could have just made Bracken mortal so he stays around her age. He could have had the same effect with turning Kendra immortal.
But then again I could be giving him too much credit and he didn’t think of any of this.
Like- like Brandon does know that Bracken being mortal does *not* take away from the years he's lived right?

Out of everything what was your absolute LEAST favorite thing about ROTDS? Personally the baptism scene did it for me
Honestly, I'm an indecisive person, so my least favorite things (plural) are:
Fucking Knox slashing Newel.
The baptism/angel/shadow healer
The old characters being left out
The fact that there is no emotion whatsoever
The Fairy King offering up Ronodin for no fucking reason
Kendra not getting wings
How rushed everything was
How Seth was the only one who did anything important
So, a lot of the book, because I hate it so much

This right here.
Okay but for real Seth renouncing the dark and embracing the light utterly destroys the significance of him being dark but good.
It clearly shows balance is *not* what they care about. It's being light.
It was never about balance and Seth being dark was considered a bad thing. It was something that needed to be fixed for him to be "good".
