Dani steadied herself on Kyle’s shoulder with one hand and pulled herself up into the passenger side with the other. She pulled the door closed and waited for him to come around to the driver’s side before she spoke. She hadn’t realized how tired she was until she sat down, and leaned her head back against the head rest, eyes closed. “Let’s make a pact, Kyle,” she said gravely. “If we’re both single when we’re thirty, let’s get married. If I haven’t found a good guy by then, there really is no hope. Pinky swear it.”

His fingers wrapped around the steering wheel as he began to drive out the parking lot, a smile forming on his face, “Really? Ok,” he held his pinky out towards her, “I pinky swear that if we are not married by 30 I will sweep you off your feet and make you my wife. And then we will make our wedding like a week long event,” He looked over at her, a smile still on his lips, “I don’t think you would want to marry me.” He reached over and placed his hand gently on her leg, giving it a pat, “You’ll find someone...don’t worry.”

her shift was almost over at hogtied and she was beyond ready to get out of there and put her feet up, which is why she nearly through a dish across the back kitchen when someone told her that she had another table waiting on her. she knew she couldn’t turn away a table, so she put a smile on her face and carried a glass over to the male seated across the tavern. it was only once she spotted who the male was that her fake smile turned into a real one, “well, well, well, look who we have here.” she set the glass of water down in front of him and placed a hand on her hip, “mr. kyle rowe.” she had seen him around town over the years since she had been back from new york, but it had been years since she held a real conversation with him.

“Oh..gross, don’t call me that,” he commented, scrunching his nose up, reaching up he ran an awkward hand through his hair, “I, uh, didn’t think you would be working tonight..Sorry it’s so late,” a soft forced chuckle left him, “I just got off a shift at the fire hall, and I’m way too tired to cook...can I just get my regular?”

I think I deserve to get black out drunk after the night I had,” she said with a pleading look glistening in her eyes, praying that the other would do her that favor. “Please.” / / @frostfordstart​

How did Kyle always get stuck in these positions? “You really want to get that drunk?” he asked before letting out a sigh, “Ok, ok, you win this time, but at least let me stick around with you?” Kyle didn’t wait for her to agree before he sat down at the bar, waving the bartender over, “What are we starting with?”

“I’m so glad you like it, and it’s no problem!” She smiled. “It’s taken me a few years to get better, when I first started oh man..” Christina shook her head. “I can barely do a line when I started.”

“I think my mama will love it too,” he smiled happily, “Aww, now I don’t believe that at all. You are just being modest. How long have you been doing this? Like what age did you start being interested in baking?”

“Oh thank God,” Sienna sighed, “But you should probably get some actual plates, I mean it’s fine when it’s me, but God forbid you have to cook for Mama and Daddy; she will not be pleased.” She shuddered at the thought, realizing he’d said something else interesting. “You got a whole place to yourself and no one you wanna share it with? You can’t go around falling in love over plastic kitchenware, I won’t have it.” 

His question struck a chord, if only because this wasn’t like her other visits; she’d been spending a lot of time with Lana and Rosie, and a lot of time working from home while her mother was in another room. She’d picked up some work from the Herald, too, so there was enough to keep her busy— definitely busier than she thought she’d be at home. “It’s odd. I don’t know if I like it. I need to find somewhere else to stay, but I don’t wanna crash in someone else’s home and I can’t… I don’t really wanna think about getting my own place, ya know? Not planning on staying that long.” 

Kyle gave a small chuckle, “Yeah, I guess you are right. Mama would be pretty upset over this...I’ll get some real stuff eventually...I just..I don’t even know where to start with them. I have real cooking ware at least.” Hearing her say falling in love had the male frozen where he stood. “Uhh..well, Dani has been known to come over once or twice.” More than that really. “But I suppose you are talking about Mattie? I actually...haven’t..uh...had her over yet.” It wasn’t that he didn’t want to invite her over..it was more that he was scared to be alone with her. In his home.

A frown quickly found it’s way to his lips, “You aren’t planning on staying? You can crash here if you want..or switch between all our houses.” A soft laugh left him as he pulled a bottle of wine out, “Would you like to do the honors?”

mattie let the door close behind her as she followed kyle down the steps.  thankfully the door to the house autolocked, but she wasn’t too worried anyway.  it wasn’t that big of a deal.  “i’m always hungry, have you met me?”  she giggled, hopping into the truck when he opened the door and getting settled.  she didn’t know where they were going, or what they were doing.  but it was kyle–whenever she was with him she was happy, so she didn’t care where they went.  

“That’s what I like to hear,” he smiled looking over at Mattie as he started up the truck after buckling up. Kyle knew there weren’t many places in town to go all dressed up like this, but that didn’t stop the boy from wanting it to be a surprise. He reached a hand over to grab hers, giving it a squeeze. “One day I’ll have to cook for you..but today...today I wanted us to go out..Show off my girlfriend,” the words fell sweetly from his lips.

Dani allowed herself to be steered away from the bar, grabbing her purse and swinging it over one shoulder clumsily. Somehow Kyle always knew the right thing to say. She sniffed and looped her arm through his to steady herself as they walked. “Do you have ice cream at your house?” she asked. She was in the mood to keep up her pity party, and if he wasn’t going to let her drink more, it was time to move on to phase two: gorging herself on sugar.

“You know I always keep the freezer stocked with ice cream for you,” he replied smiling as he held on to her tightly to keep her from falling over. “I even bought a stash of chick flicks that we can stay up watching.” Before exiting the bar, Kyle stopped and shrugged off his jacket, placing it over her shoulders before heading out towards his truck, his dark hues down at her. As they reached his truck, he opened up the passenger door for her. “Your chariot awaits, Princess.”

“I wish I had gotten a puppy as well. You know, experience it all. But this is still the best.” She giggled. “I think I might. We will see how the rest of the walk goes, pass by different dogs and see how he reacts, watching out for what he needs help on.”

“It’s probably better that you got an older one,” he replied, “I mean just cause they are usually better trained...and not like a baby at this age. How has he been doing so far with other dogs? He obviously likes people.”

every time he took a turn, mason thought he was getting closer to the exit but then it was another dead end. he was able to stop at a few families that were going through the maze together and was able to get some answers from them and without a doubt, he was able to find the exit. he gasped and ran for it but as soon as he thought victory was his, he looked over and saw that kyle had beaten him out of it. “god dang it!” he said to him as he smiled softly. “good job, though.”

“I can’t believe I won,” he sputtered out, completely surprised when he saw the other male come out from the maze. “I mean...” Kyle began, straightening up his back, “I told you, I would win. So..what are you going to cook for me?”

Christina carefully wrote the last word on the cake in the colorful icing. She capped the icing bag up and set it down before picking it up carefully to show her customer her work. “So, what do you think?” She asked, her slight Australian accent still present and grinning at the work she had completed. @frostfordstart​

“It looks great!” he commented, clearly impressed with her work, “I’m sure my mom is gonna love it! Thank you.” Kyle smiled at her, “I don’t see how you are so good at decorating, that’s just something I can’t seem to do very well...and I’m not that creative anyways.”

“I don’t know. Some beers. Some shots.” She waved her hand over the empty glasses in front of her that hadn’t been cleared away yet, as if that could illustrate how she felt inside. “I just felt so stupid, Kyle. I feel like my prince will never really exist.”

“Ok well,” he breathed getting up from the stool, “I’m going to get you home, I’ll grab the bill. ” He held his hand up as if to stop any argument, “I think you have had enough to drink here..” He held his arm out towards her, “Come on, let’s get out of here. You aren’t stupid, you know that, sometimes we just build people up in our heads and they just can’t live up to those standards. It happens to all of us, Dans.”

penelope made a face as she looked at the smoke alarm and shrugged.  she genuinely didn’t know.  “it’s probably old.  nobody’s really used the house in a long time til i just came back to town.”  it was no secret that the caulfield house, the one rhett had bought after high school with money from the wedding and from saving up from his work, hadn’t been used since they moved away twenty-six years earlier.  now penelope was using it as a studio, because she couldn’t yet bring herself to live in the house.  she snorted with a nod of her shoulders, “i know i shoulda like, ran outta here.  but if you think i’ll ever run out in just a towel, not happening.  i don’t need the whole town to see that.”  

“We should probably see about getting you a new one all together then...I can come back and install it tomorrow if you want,” he offered up, laughter falling from his lips as she snorted, “Yeah, no, I totally get that. You won’t catch me running out in just a towel either...but, on the other hand, it’s better than the alternative. I can’t help, but to think, what would Gertie say if she saw us running out the house naked,” he continued to laugh as he finished up with the fire alarm, climbing down the ladder. “That’s about all I can do right now, but you should seriously see about getting a new one, and getting a carbon monoxide alarm as well.”

mattie grinned at kyle, a blush coating her cheeks at the compliment he gave her.  “thank you.  you look really handsome.”  she replied.  then she paused for a moment before taking the chocolate roses in her hands and grinning down at them.  it was really sweet of him to do that, and she figured it would be better than actual flowers–those would only die off quickly.  chocolate roses, though, she could enjoy those.  “i love them.”  she turned and put the flowers down on the table by the door and then took his hand.  “hi.”  she giggled, “i don’t think i said that when i opened the door.”  she took a step forward and greeted kyle with a kiss.  

A goofy side smile tugged on Kyle’s lips, “Hi,” he muttered, one of his hands resting on her hips as he leaned down into the kiss. Holding on to her hand, he turned and headed off towards his truck, a smile still playing on his lips as he tossed a look back at her over his shoulder, “I hope you are hungry.” Reaching his truck he opened up the passenger door for her, “That’s all I’m gonna say on where we are going.”

Mila smiled at Kyle with a nod. “He is. The rescue said he never wanted to listen to anyone, but I think he was just around the wrong people.” She made a face. “He’s about three? They think.”

“That’‘s a good age,” Kyle commented, smiling down at the dog again before leaning down to give him a head rub, “Are you going to take any classes with him?”
