"Oh my god - how much I enjoyed that. At half time I said if we can turn this it is something we can tell our grandkids. I see mine in 10 days so I can tell them."

9.6.2021 • jordan henderson • 10 years a red
jordan henderson signed for liverpool from his boyhood club, sunderland, on this day 10 years ago. signed by kenny dalglish, henderson initially had a tough start, with many people, fans and pundits alike believing he was not good enough - an unjust criticism that has unfairly followed him throughout his career. henderson has never let the hate affect him. even when brendan rodgers famously wanted to swap him for clint dempsey. henderson refused, and decided to stay and fight for his place at this football club. and the rest, as they say, is history. he was instrumental in the 2013/14 title challenge, with many, including rodgers, citing his sending off against manchester city as the main reason that liverpool lost the league that season. in november 2014, he was made vice-captain of the club and, following the departure of club legend steven gerrard, he was made permanent club captain in july 2015.
henderson’s most famous moments however, have come under manager jurgen klopp. in 2019, he lifted liverpool’s 6th european cup. 2 months later, he lifted liverpool’s 4th supercup, and 4 months after that, he lifted liverpool’s first club world cup. but his crowning moment came in july 2020, when liverpool won the premier league for the first time, making jordan henderson the only player in liverpool’s history to have lifted the trophy.
bu it’s not just his antics on the pitch that have earned henderson a place amongst liverpool’s legends, it’s also his actions off it. from organising christmas parties for local children, to giving his support and donations to foodbanks, to tackling racism and social media abuse, and to raising money for the nhs, henderson has used his position for good.
so here’s to you, jordan henderson and thank you for the past 10 years

“I think we made it pretty exciting. I didn’t think that was possible seven weeks ago, the boys did really well in that period [...] I think our people enjoyed it as well, you could see today they are not angry with us, they are looking forward to a new Premier League season and Europa League season.”
