Hey guys, I know this community isn't very active on here but there's an issue in the community that I feel should be addressed, and I need to talk about this somewhere...
It's hard to really name this issue, but it isn't a simple task being male presenting in Royale High. I guess I'll call it the "fake" boys issue.
I am a nonbinary guy, this is something I've felt within me since I was young. I never quite liked being seen as a girl irl, but I had no problem being seen that way on video games and rpgs. I always felt that the female characters had more customization and cuter clothes, and I could relatively ignore the use of she because the setting around me was so enamoring. I never had a problem with this until very recently, on Royale High.
I decide when I play as a girl or not, how I customize my avatar outside of the game, etc. I present differently when I feel like it, on a whim even. I could be a "boy" on this game, a "girl" on the other, who am I hurting by doing this? The answer should be no one, but apparently females on the game take issue with me doing this.
They claim that I'm "fake," that I'm not a boy because my avatar looks a certain way, or because I do something that pisses them off and prompts them to check my profile. They take the time out of their day to check my inventory, my activities, every little detail is scrutinized and then they just decide that I'm a girl based on what they think I am. Not what I say I am.
I am nonbinary, but I am masculine aligned and I prefer to be seen as a boy. Calling me a girl in a hateful and insensitive way makes me feel dysphoric and unwell.
A lot of people claim that people "fake" being boys on the game for attention, which I have never seen. Boys on the game rarely ever beg for attention or go out of their way to get it, others on the game just give it to them the moment they pass by. I've never seen a boy going out of his way to flirt or ask for attention, ever.
Another excuse I hear is "you're vote begging by being a boy," which makes... No sense to me. If I were vote begging I'd be asking for it in chat, by that same logic girls who are rich are vote begging just by existing. The lack of logic here is astounding. Boys can enter beauty pageants too, and just because they win consecutively does not mean they are "cheating." It's no surprise that people (mostly girls) on the game find boys attractive, rare even. So, they vote for them because it's nice to see. Is there anything so wrong with winning pageants fairly?
And, let's for a second assume that there is a girl playing as a boy. It's ignorant to assume that they're simply faking it for attention/votes/etc. Some people have male ocs that they like to play as/rp as, so what? Is it wrong to have male characters while being female, or are our characters restricted to our own gender?
The reason why it pains me that people claim I'm faking is because I'm... Not. I use video games as an escape, to get away from everything irl that stresses me like my distaste for my own appearance and various other stressors of daily life, and to have someone in chat just proclaim that me, as a person, not my character, is a girl... It hurts.
All I ask is that you as a player take other's feelings into account before you decide to "expose" them. You don't know their life, their story, you don't know the first thing about them outside of what you've seen in game. Maybe they present differently in other games, maybe they have to play as a girl/boy to hide their tracks or something of that sort.
Just... Don't assume you know people and their intentions, and definitely don't berrate them for playing as a certain gender. This is probably factoring in to the lack of boys on the game as well, so if you don't want the lads to go extinct start treating them with respect.
TL:DR: Don't bully people on a game for playing as a certain gender.
