“I Want Blessings” ... I’ve been painting these clover flowers for @lightgreyartlab’s Small Art for a Big Cause show that’s coming up soon. They will be selling framed prints and a portion of the gallery’s proceeds will go to a charity of choice. I’ve opted all the proceeds that I would get as an artist to be put into charity as well. In particular the American Red Cross California Wildfire Relief. ... This piece has been very frustrating. Even though it’s seemingly simple. Sometimes, that’s just the way it is and all you can do it push forwards and learn. I’ve been listening to old timey holiday music (Eartha Kitt’s Santa Baby is my favorite!), hugging all the hot water bottles I own, and guzzling down tea pot after tea pot as an attempt to keep warm and motivated when all else seems gloomy!

Happy Halloween! It’s my favorite day in the whole year! I hope it perfectly spooky and full of treats for you! I’m baking an Italian apple cake today, playing my favorite Halloween songs, planning a walk in the next door graveyard full of wild turkeys, and maybe meeting up with a friend! How are you celebrating this perfectly spooky day? 🎃🦇🕷🧡✨ ... Here is work in progress piece along with strange orange flowers I found in the grocery store today. They look like thistle but aren’t spiky at all! But they made me think of fall.

“You can not alter your fate, my prince, but you can rise to meet it, if you so choose.” ... I hadn’t planned on making this piece for Prince Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke. I rarely draw people (even though hands and feet are my favorite things to draw). But I couldn’t stop thinking about his curse. It was animated so beautifully. And I also love the scene in the end where the kodama are all falling. This movie defined the way I see nature. Gentle. Magical. Unforgiving. Consuming. Death and rebirth. ... I always get nervous about posting my fanart. But I really enjoy making them. So I hope sharing them is alright!

I never do Inktober. The most I have done is two drawings. And then I give up. I never liked the pressure I felt. But this year it’s been so natural. And even if I hate the piece, it’s for me. To try something different and perhaps relearn some old things (it’s been a while since I worked on regular paper that isn’t transparent or glossy). I’ve actually been excited for these! My only prompt is a different flower everyday. So today is day 8, and I’m starting on a pigeon with bloodroot flowers. If anyone is interested, I’ll be selling the originals at the end of the month. ... Are you doing Inktober? How’s it been going for you? I’ve seen so many lovely pieces this year. Everyone has been killing it! And the artist that aren’t participating have been making other incredible pieces of work!

It’s inspired from a page in my zine (that I’m working so slowly on). ... “My heart is a strange creature in the daylight. And no amount of flowers will ever quell its quake. Come night it sings a song with words I do not understand. And by some ill gotten mysteries, I wonder: Am I fading away?”

“A New Bed With Soil Softer than Cotton” ... These two boy buns are up for viewing in the @blockfort Gallery in the group show Something in the Woods. The reception is this Friday at 7. It’s been rainy these past few days so it feels exceptionally like fall. I feel like everyone has been exciting for this new season! And that in of itself makes me even more stoked! “The Last Time the King Held His Son” ... This is a piece made for tomorrow’s MN Artists Presents: Essma Imady (@essmaart) with the @walkerartcenter. I was asked to read a poem written in Arabic by Aliaa Sakkar. I can read Arabic but I cannot understand it. It shares the same alphabet as Farsi/Persian but they are two different languages. Based off of sound and four or five words I recognized, I made this piece. Thinking about missing Home and being away from loved ones. Come by tomorrow for a free event at the Walker! These days I’ve been drawing with my windows open so that the smell of lilacs can fill my studio. I’ve started adding elderflower syrup to my tea and it’s been amazing! And when I’m not binging podcasts, I’ve had the new BTS album on repeat. Days have been blurring together. But strangely, I don’t mind. I think this happens to me every May. The promise of summer makes me a bit sluggish.

“See With Eyes Unclouded By Hate” ... This movie changed how I wanted to perceive the world. I remember watching it when I was so much younger than the me of now. And I realized how I wanted to treat and be a part of nature and humanity. I may not be the ideal version of myself that can perceive the world without hate. But I will try. ... This silly opossum is being made into a holiday card! It’s my plan to make her into a set of cards so she can be devious for many seasons. I’m hoping the cards arrive soon so I can put them in my shop. . It snowed last night so I’m super in the holiday mood.
