That's not how I remembered it! I remember "scaaary lieutenant" - THREE 'A'S. It's embedded in my head! Why do I remember the scanlation or a different translation better than the one I've owned forever?

But also, go Chuang Yi for having Hawkeye set up Mustang to admit she's his boss. Make him flirt with you, girl.

Look at him sparkling like Armstrong, just an absolute ray of sunshine while he talks with his wife.

Ahaha, and then she just roasts him for overworking her.

Poor girl, they say. She gets in her digs. Makes it worth it. Ahhh, I love this whole thing so much. Hearing about this arc is what convinced me to read the manga because they're just incorrigible little gremlins tying up the phone lines with their facades instead of serious all the time, and that's what makes them not 100% angst and dreary.

The angst is baller, but this is what makes Royai FUN.

Oh, but another thought -- do you think they were like this in East? I've started thinking that a comparison between Roy's behaviour in East and in Central could actually be incredibly useful. In East he's with a General who nurtures him and trains him up, but he already knows Central is dangerous before he gets there, because of what happened to Hughes. Do you think maybe he was a bit lazy in East and had some facades going on, but it turned up to 11 when he got transferred? His mentor is distant, his friend is gone. He has his team with him, but no one at Central knows how they really behave and interact.

Maybe his team's actions back at Central were kind of typical, and now everything is basically espionage to them. They've stepped not just into power, but power like live wires, and they need to protect themselves with their reputations and the few people they can make connections with.
