John is an omega on a much lower social rung, but when the families bring them together for a meeting, sparks fly.  All sorts of side characters make an appearance for an interesting ride.

The Illusion of Control series by starrysummernights, 17 works, explicit. John hates being an Omega, and works hard to make his way in the world. When he asks Alpha!Sherlock to help him with his heats as a friend, things get complicated fast. Oh, poor sad dears. This is part of a wonderful series that watches the two navigate their relationship with John as a Dom, and Sherlock as his Sub despite their genders. (Locked to AO3.)

Taking the Fee by bobross, 6 k, explicit. PWP Omegaverse fun. This story is medical kink – a pelvic exam and MORE for Omega John, and though it comes across as “dubcon” the author hints, and explains in the notes, that this is really a role-playing situation between partners.

Dilaudid by Lintilla, 62 k, explicit. Alpha!Sherlock and Omega!John. This was one of the most interesting, ploty omegaverse fics I’ve ever read. Only males are A and O, and omegas are treated like glass and bound as soon as possible to an alpha. John manages to live his life passing as a beta on hormone suppressants that his pharmacist father developed. So many plot twists, and rocky stops and starts between John and Sherlock, and such clever reworking of canon throughout the story. Wow. This was an amazing fic, and such a wild ride. Thumbs and toes up.

The Liquid Measure of Your Steps by mazarin221b, 8 k, explicit. Omegaverse with an interesting twist – Omegas hold Alphas in thrall to their powers of attraction. While investigating the death of a young alpha at a strip club, Alpha Sherlock, and Omega John discover each other. Friends to lovers. Scent kink and competency kink. Sweet and hot. (Title from a Neruda poem.)

Drouk by Alma_Anor, 16 k, explicit. Omegaverse. High angst as Alpha Moriarty takes Alpha Sherlock and Omega John captive to play with them. Some violence and sexual assault until they are rescued. This fic is dark in parts with a mostly happy ending. So much of what it means to love someone – to care about them more than you care about yourself comes through here. (The title means “drenched” in Brit slang.) Warnings for noncon.

Wasted Hours by songlin, almost 5 k, explicit. John is an omega, and while his flatmate is an alpha, they’ve bumped along fine together, until John wishes they were more than just friends. Through grand miscommunication, Sherlock thinks John wants him to stay away, while John is actually pining desperately for him. The trauma of a kidnapping finally clears the air.

Serviceman series by prettyarbitrary, 4 works, mature & explicit. John is a rare Omega who worked in the military with his unit, a tribe of alphas who looked out for him. When he and Sherlock, a reluctant Alpha, become flatmates, John is willing to stay out of Sherlock’s way when he goes into heat. Sherlock finally admits he wants to bond with John in all ways possible. Several of the fics are John’s time in the army before. HOT stuff.

“What does the rest of you taste like?” His voice sounds raw to his own ears. Sherlock’s not used to all these inconvenient feelings associated with sex. Feelings are difficult, heartbreaking, consuming. But he’d known the moment he saw John’s compact body moving assuredly through that crowd of drunken fools, that John would be more than a one off fuck in the loo. Or he’d at least hoped. Feelings are probably unavoidable at this point.

“John,” Sherlock gasped, arching up sharply from the bed as John pushed a second finger into him. He clenched down, squirming as he tried to impale himself further on the doctor’s skilled fingers. John nipped at Sherlock’s shoulder, pulling his fingers almost all the way out before thrusting back in hard and receiving a low groan in reward.

“What do you want?” His tongue laved over the small bite mark. “Do you want me to kiss you…to /fuck/ you?” Sherlock jerked up as John’s fingers found Sherlock’s prostate, whimpering with each precise stroke. “To take you against the wall? Or on the bed?”

“Do you want it /hard/? Or slow? Do you want it to hurt?” John’s fingers raked down Sherlock’s stomach, nails leaving reddened scratches on his pale skin. Sherlock only hissed, taut body leaning up into the touch. “Do you want me to make you come or force you to wait?” Sherlock’s chest heaved. “…Do you want me to make you stop thinking?” John wrapped his hand around Sherlock’s hardened cock, coming to the cusp of it all.

“Do you think I could?” He stroked once, and Sherlock bucked against him. “Do you think I could shut your brain off?” He stroked again, and Sherlock’s reaction was audible. “…because I would love to try…”

“John…” Sherlock gasped again, head tossing to the side. John didn’t let up.

“What do you want, Sherlock?” His teeth scraped down Sherlock’s neck, and Sherlock practically writhed beneath him. “Tell me…” he murmured, moving up to mouth kisses down Sherlock’s jawline. “What do you want?”

Sherlock shuddered. “You…everything,” Sherlock choked out, straining against the other man, needing his mind to go dark, needing the reprieve. “Everything…John…Please.” Sherlock’s voice cracked on the last rarely spoken word, and John’s mouth was on Sherlock’s in a second, only too happy to oblige.

Pencil Me In- Johnlock AU: Part 1 of 5

Sherlock Holmes is an escort that the wealthy and mysterious John Watson meets after a referral from Mike Stamford. He takes Sherlock on as an escort, and they quickly spiral into a relationship that goes too fast, too hard. Ruthless. It was always rough and fast with tongue and bruising grips and teeth. The bedroom was always empty before the night was out, and come morning they pretended they didn’t remember about what happened.

I did not mean for this to happen. I was on my computer and saw that picture of Benedict looking like that and… my hands slipped. Four boards so far have been made. There is a story coming up, and John and Sherlock are going to be in for a ride.

Whenever someone says that johnlock couldn’t be canon, because it would ruin the source material, I always have to mention Granada Sherlock Holmes.

Produced in a time when suggesting that Holmes and Watson might have been in a romantic or sexual relationship could get you black listed from Sherlockian communities, this series thumbed its nose and pushed as many boundaries as it could. 

One of the first screen adaptations to showcase the equality in the partnership between the two men, it gave us a Watson who was anything but the bumbling oaf he had been in previous works. This Watson was intelligent, strong, protective, and loving. When he wasn’t doctoring his Holmes after scrapes, he was comforting him in his failure, or helping to direct him toward success. 

Rather than marry Watson off, Granada kept him a happy, if often put upon, bachelor. This deviation from the source Canon was handled smoothly, by occasionally sending Watson on much needed holidays or keeping him busy at his surgery, for stories that needed the men to be separated at the beginning. 

Beyond the less than subtle hints into the nature of the relationship between Holmes and Watson, Granada is noted for including a story line in one of their most well known films that dealt with why that very relationship needed to be kept a secret. Working off of a few scant lines found in the original Charles Augustus Milverton, the film The Master Blackmailer featured a subplot of a soldier taking his life, when his love affair with a man is found out. This is a subject which leads to Lestrade making the remark that it isn’t the first time it has happened to a soldier, and it certainly won’t be the last, a remark that ends with Watson all but slamming the door to Baker Street behind the inspector. 

There is hardly a scene throughout the show- which ran for a decade, and included five feature length films- that doesn’t show the gentle intimacy between Holmes and Watson. Whether he is threatening an armed man with a chair, insisting that his detective eat, or jumping between Holmes and a hired thug, Watson is every inch the devoted companion. As the series progresses, and the actors change, Watson subtly evolves from a man who loves the excitement of the world Holmes has shown him, into one that wants them to slow down and think of the future.
