excuse my little PSA in this tag;
This is a PSA to bellarke fan fiction authors: since we’re becoming more and more aware of the usage of the Filipino culture/traditions/myths/etc. in fan fiction with regard to Bellamy or just in general, I would like yall to know that there are Filipinx people here on tumblr that you can go to if you need to ask about anything Filipino.
There’s me, Jazz (hooksandheroics). I’m a college student studying Philippine Arts, majoring in Cultural Heritage and Arts Management. I have fair knowledge on Filipino mythology, pre- and proto-history, the use of Baybayin (ancient Filipinx system of writing), and language. A little bit of music, folk dances, and textile.
There’s also Cam ( @cachekakusu ) an immigrant currently residing in California in the US, can help with insight on living in the Ilocos province and language and immigrant experiences living in the US.
There’s Kaye ( @misterrsulu )  she worked in heritage tourism and community development, can provide insight on living in Manila and language.
There’s Allison ( @wellsjahastan ) she lives in Australia, can help with culture things as well, although not fluent in Tagalog, she has knowledge on Filipino folk dances, took Southeast Asian studies and did her thesis on colonialism in the Philippines, as well as looking at the influence of Chinese culture and differing conceptions of Filipinxs being classed as Asians vs Pacific Islanders.
I know there are so many Filipinxs in the fandom who are willing and glad to help with issues and references. :)

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines’ first Olympic figure skater is in many ways far different from the one we saw at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games.
Michael Christian Martinez, for one, is no longer a baby-faced teen. Now, well he’s still quite baby-faced, but he’s also grown bigger and buffer as a 20-year-old. Another, and more important difference, is he’s matured – enough to handle the setback of having to go through the last remaining qualifier to make it back to Olympic ice.
“My mindset coming to this competition for the upcoming qualifying event for the next Olympics is that I don't want to just make it to the top 6, I want to be the top skater there and show results of the hard work that I've been doing,” a sanguine Martinez told Rappler via email.
That confidence finds its roots in the hardwork he’s been putting in training in Los Angeles, and from the unbounded support of fellow Filipinos.
Martinez has one last shot at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea by way of the Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany this September. He missed an opportunity when he fell short in the 2017 World Figure Skating Championships final, finishing in last place this past April.
The Muntinlupa native admitted he has evolved as a person – and consequently as a skater – over the years as a result of his experiences since capturing hearts and inspiring many at Sochi.
“I’ve been through so much in life and had to make tons of sacrifices, choices and face challenges at such a young age,” he shared pieces of the perspectives he’s gained since his historic Sochi stint. “I can really say that I’ve grown so much not just in skating but more of as a person.”
He’s taking training for the Nebelhorn Trophy very seriously, going so far as to lose weight in order to accomplish a difficult jump (even for the best of skaters) that he aims to insert into his routine: the quad jump.
“Everyone knows that the part that I'm missing are my quad jumps,” Martinez said. “I actually can do it but I wasn't able to do so during the (World Championships) competition since [I] was not ready for it. I'm sure it will be ready for the next season.”
A quad jump refers to a figure skating jump wherein a skater has to jump and make 4 full rotations in the air before landing cleanly on the ice.
Martinez plans on inserting a couple of quad jumps into his short and long programs at the Nebelhorn Trophy in sync with “new choreography that everyone would really see the new Michael.”
These days Martinez trains with Ukranian Vyacheslav Zahorodnyuk as his technical coach, and crafts his overall routine with renowned World and Olympic choreographer Phillip Mills. His days include 3 training windows in the morning (7 am to 12:15 pm), afternoon (3 to 6 pm for beach workout), and evening (7:15 to 8:30 pm at the gym) – with Saturday being his rest day.
On his Instagram account Martinez has been updating his weight loss progress. As of this writing he said he’s lost 10 pounds. He hopes it will result in longer airtime and faster rotations, making his jumps easier and higher.
A post shared by Michael Christian Martinez (@martinezfrost3) on May 23, 2017 at 8:01pm PDT
Before the all-important Nebelhorn Trophy, Martinez will test his mettle again in several US tournaments by July’s end and at the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia this August.
An erratic final routine at the World Championships has not detered Martinez. He is not cowed by the overwhelming talent of his competitors. Nor is he intimidated by the fact that he is someone practicing a winter sport in a tropical country, where the sun is shining year round and the only ice skating rinks are inside malls.
“I really like the Michael now—not the introverted, naive Michael that would just follow what others say, or not think if I’ll regret my choices in the future,” Martinez reflected some more on the changes that have influenced his mindset and approach to new obstacles.
“I have realized the impact I make on other people’s lives and how they can impact mine. I’ve become more focused, I am hungrier, and have better discernment towards choosing the challenges I face.”
The intention for the coming months is to build on Martinez’s short program performance at the World Championships, which he self-assessed was his best to date in his career. He has been here before. The difference lies in better wisdom and more steely resolve.
“Although I know that the competition is tough, I am confident that I will be able to make it the Olympics,” Martinez declared. “To compete in the Winter Olympics again has been my dream – my goal – and I’ve been trying to do my best to make this a reality once more.” – Rappler.com

Surprise: Tarsiers found in Mt. Mayapay
Two tarsiers were found in a small forest patch on Mt. Mayapay giving Butuan tribal folk hope that there are more of the endangered specie in the area that is threatened by kaingin, quarrying and rapid land conversion .
The male and female tarsiers were found by a Manobo farmer on May 31 clinging to the low-lying branches of Bansilag tree at a forested area in Sitio Ugabang, Barangay Bonbon, Butuan City.
Farmer Quirino Macalisang, Jr. said he was tending his farm when he discovered the tarsier, one of the smallest known primates in the world.
Macalisang then informed his companions of what he saw, and rescued the saucer-eyed creatures.
It was not the first time a tarsier has been found in the area, he said.
“This is not the first time tarsiers were found in Mt. Mayapay. What we found was already the fourth this year alone. Last November 2016, a tarsier captured by a Mayapay resident escaped,” Macalisang told Caraga News Courier.
Living on a diet of insects, the Philippine Tarsier is mostly active at night. Its length from the top of the head to the tip of the feet (not counting the tail) is only 118-149 millimeters and weighs between 113 and 142 grams.
In fact, it is no larger than an adult man’s hand. The males are generally larger than females.
Manobo tribal chieftain Datu Malinggat said he would call for an emergency meeting with the Mt. Mayapay Tribal Council and the Development Board to discuss the discovery and how to deal with it.
Aside from Tarsiers, Malinggat said other endangered animals such as deer, cloud rats and Tamaraw lurked deep in the jungles of the 68,000-hectare Mt. Mayapay that straddles parts of Butuan City and Buenavista town in Agusan del Norte,
Claimed by the Manobo and Higaonon tribes as their ancestral land, Mt. Mayapay is a magnificent mountain located east of Butuan City, considered the range’s highest peak is 2,335 feet above sea level with a plateau formation above it, by which its predominant feature is the city’s backdrop.
According to Datu Malinggat, slash and burn or kaingin , quarrying and rapid land conversion are threatening biodiversity and ecological balance of the mountaing due influx of lowland settlers, infra build up, and illegal intrusions due conflict in ancestral land claims and tenurial instruments issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
“The problem now is how to save this wildlife species when the very government agencies who supposedly must the number one concern and save them are the ones issuing land titles, the Integrated Social Forestry (ISF) and Community-based Forest Management (CBFM) certificates enticing people to come and to destroy further Mt. Mayapay due influx of lowlanders and settlements without properly managing them, ” he lamented.
“In effect putting all wildlife species in real, clear and present danger. The problem no one in the government until today seemed to address these problems,” he added.

The father of the suspect is on the presscon rn - he does not look like a caucasian (like the suspect). Still no mention of whether the suspect was an ex-DOF employee or if he was separated from his spouse.
Tumblr media
Translation: The suspect of the Resorts World Manila attack has been identified. According to a source of News 5, the suspect was a former employee of the Department of Finance. He has a debt of 4 million pesos and has been separated from his spouse for one month. The authorities already have the CCTV [footage] that shows the suspect buying gasoline.
This doesn’t add up to what is being said on Albayde’s presscon right now - in that presscon, only the debt of the suspect and the suspect buying gasoline was mentioned. There was no mention of his former employer or of him being separated from his spouse.
