It will never not bug me that my most popular Carrd template by far is the one with a design that's fundamentally broken if you have a free plan. And also that Carrd doesn't allow you to remove templates if anyone's used them.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While clearing out files on my hard drive, I found a collection of Star Trek themed pride icons I apparently made a while back and never posted. So I added a few more and here they are!
Star Trek options include: Starfleet (three styles), IDIC, Bajoran, Borg, Cardassian, Dominion, Ferengi, Klingon, and Romulan.
Pride flags include: agender, aromantic, asexual, bisexual, gay, genderfluid, genderqueer, lesbian, nonbinary, pansexual, POC inclusive / Philadelphia flag, polyamorous, polysexual, and transgender.
Credit is appreciated, but not necessary. Do not redistribute or claim as your own.
Find all the icons here!

I was wondering if you could offer me some advice about somethimg regarding a tiny issue I've run into that I'm not sure how to proper go about.
See, i have this partner who hasn't replied to a starter yet for a few months now. I'm not mad, of course, but I would like to possibly get the rp going as gently as possible, seeing as it hasn't even started yet.
So what I'm saying is could you suggest any way to give them a gentle reminder without coming across as pushy? Because I'm not wanting to push them, just remind them the rp is there/if they're interested in it still. You know?
Thanks!
Hi anon! There's absolutely nothing wrong with giving a gentle poke now and then, especially if it's been months. I'd shoot them a message with something along these lines:
Hey! I wanted to check in with you about [thread], since it's been a little while since I posted the starter. There's no rush at all, I just wanted to ask if you were you still interested in it?
It's also possible that they were just never notified of the starter -- Tumblr is notorious for not telling people about @ mentions, so they can slip through the cracks sometimes.

A small update -- I've been taking a little break from Tumblr lately. I haven't been checking in here too much, so apologies if you sent me an ask and I never answered.
I've also decided to keep my commissions closed indefinitely. They might reopen in another form someday, not sure yet.

Hello jeanette! I wanted to ask a question about something regarding the audio player. I’ve seen a lot of pinned/intro posts include a formatted audio link and it can play a song in browser/tumblr’s app. But whenever I try to add my own audio link it only lets me do Spotify. Is this some kind of coding nuance I’m not understanding? Ty for any help !!
Hello! I believe you need to upload an audio file to get Tumblr's built-in audio player like that. External links like Spotify or Soundcloud will give you a different looking widget. I don't really use those for my pinned posts though so I could be wrong.

If you've been waiting for an update on the Discord Thread Tracker Bot (Titi), good news -- she's up and running again! And she can be added to new servers. Her commands work a little differently than before, so you may need to relearn how she works. Feel free to add her to your server and try her out!
As a reminder, Titi is a bot that lets you track your threads within a Discord server, to see everything at a glance. You can even sort them into categories. It also bolds when a thread is currently your turn so you can tell at a glance. It even works with Tupperbox, provided you register the names of your tuppers with it so it knows which ones are you.
Tumblr media
If you're interested, I also strongly encourage you to join the Titi support server for updates, and for assistance with troubleshooting.

What's the difference betweem a starter call and plotting call? I had seen it on a rp blog I was visiting, and I found myself a little unsure of both their meanings. Are they about the same thing, or do they have different terms?
Hey anon, the two are similar but do have slightly different outcomes. A starter call means they will write you a starter if you interact with the post -- they might message you to talk about some specifics first, but it's usually not expected. Meanwhile, a plotting call lets you know upfront that they plan to message you to talk about specific plots/threads if you interact with the post.

hi! i found your carrd templates while browsing and would really like to use aperture to display my portfolio (not roleplaying related, i want to work in video games!). is that okay with you? i'm not going to be making any money off of it except in the abstract sense that it might land me a job, but i still figured i'd ask since it's not exactly the intended purpose.
That's totally fine! Just keep the credit link intact, please 💞

hi, i've been using tumblr for almost 2 years but i lost the access of beta editor. i have probably only access of the legacy editor. i tried to contact with tumblr but they couldn't even understand the topic yet, do you have any ideas about that? i click the text button normally, the beta editor section must've be up & near of the text box but mine has no beta editor section. i used different devices and created different accounts ( i thought that may fix that ) but it didn't work. i want to cry now, i can't rp without the beta editor...
Hey anon, I think you might have it backwards -- the legacy editor is the older editor that's been used for years, while the beta editor is the newer editor that everyone's gradually getting switched over to. If you don't have a little switch in the top right corner of your new post screen, then you're locked into the beta editor.
It's okay, though! You can still roleplay with beta, it just has some new keyboard shortcuts and features to learn about. I've gone over pretty much everything in my masterpost, which you can find here.

How to Get a Chronological Dash as a New Blog
I've been working on a Tumblr Roleplaying 101 guide, and in doing so wound up making a brand new Tumblr account for some screenshots. And this process made me realize how weirdly complicated Tumblr has made it for new accounts to get a chronological dash. So if you just want to see posts from people you follow, in the order that they made them, this what you have to do.
First, go to your settings, go under Dashboard, and scroll down to Preferences. Toggle off Best Stuff First. This switches your dash from an algorithm feed to a chronological one.
Tumblr media
If you have an older blog, that's all you have to do. But if your blog was created more recently, you have an extra step.
The Tumblr dashboard has different tabs, which you can see across the top of your feed. Most older users have completed tuned these out, because we don't care about anything other than the basic feed. There is a Following tab, which shows posts from users you follow, and a For you tab, which shows recommend posts Tumblr thinks you'll like.
Tumblr media
On blogs created before May 8, 2023, the Following tab is the default view. However, blogs created after this date have the For you tab as the default view. (This is an intentional change by Tumblr.)
Tumblr media
This means if you are a newer blog and want to see posts from people you follow, you'll need to manually switch to the Following tab every time you open the dashboard.
If you do not like this change, consider contacting Tumblr staff. Submit a form under the Feedback category and explain that you'd like the option to make the Following tab the default for new blogs. And please, be polite! There is a person on the other side of the screen who likely had no say in this change, and even if they did, they don't deserve to be yelled at.

It seems that all of my blogs are finally forced into beta, and several people I know were putting off switching over have been as well. I'm wondering if this has finally been implemented for all users as was planned. So have my super scientific poll to try and find out.

Hi! You’d mentioned you hadn’t heard anything about accessibility issues with the new layout, so as someone who does actually enjoy the new layout but only reverts it because I can’t adjust it code-wise the way I’d like to make it fully accessible for my needs, here’s a few ways it’s not accessible!
OVERSTIMULATION: Compared to the previous layout, the dashboard feels very cluttered. Everything is squished together in the middle (and I’m saying this as someone running on a 1920x1080 resolution, so not a small screen). I personally had to Stylus in some extra spacing between the dashboard and the two sidebars, for example, and make the left labels slightly smaller text-wise and icon-wise so that they felt a little more spaced out. It just opened up the dashboard a bit more and made it a little bit less overwhelming.
TOO MUCH CONTENT: In addition to the above, there’s just a lot going on on the new dashboard, at least compared to the old one. Previously, with the old icon labels there wasn’t a lot of visual stimulation from those, whereas the new layout adds that. When you add in the mix of the recommended blogs, the What’s New carousel, Tumblr Live, and necessities that I use regularly from other addons (ex. xKit Tag Tracking+) it becomes A LOT. I actually had to hide a bunch of icons that I don’t use (ex. Live, Domains, TumblrMart, etc) in order to declutter the shit out of the dashboard so it wasn’t so horribly overwhelmed.
DRAFTS AND QUEUE NOT EASILY ACCESSIBLE: This I think is a big one. We as the RPC are attached at the hip to our drafts and queue, are we not?! When they had the account subnav in the left bar, I LOVED how accessible that felt; I loved how it just felt more easily accessible because I could keep it open and access it from any page in the left bar. But… then they removed it. This is probably my biggest gripe, because I just want the links to at least my drafts, queue, and blog settings back! Personally, I think in order to combat the redundancy, they should have removed the jump that was in the right menu when you’d gone to your blog’s view, not remove it from the left menu. That, or find a way to better organize/condense that blog jump so it’s not so crazy.
Personally, I think the first two are really problematic for those on the neurodivergent spectrum (which includes myself), and as someone who was in school for UI design and works in a field that involves customer feedback (I work in market research), I do feel that Tumblr’s method of sourcing feedback from users is incredibly poor. Whether that’s a monetary issue or not, I’m not sure. Thus far, it feels like support tickets go unanswered, and that Staff seems to pretty heavily handwave it as “not a big deal” rather than finding proper ways to source community feedback. That in general is the crux of the issue, I think, and forcing users to rely on external codes to retain their accessibility is a poor method to go about things.
Hey! Thanks for this, this is a good explanation. I am not entirely sure I agree on all of these points but I appreciate the input.
I do agree that the layout feels a bit too squished -- the sidebars should really be all the way to the side rather than right up next to the dash. I'm not really sure I get the "too much content" one, though. All the same content is on the dash as before, it's just arranged differently. In fact, I actually prefer that the main links now actually say what they are instead of just the icons, and I know I'm not alone in that. It seems to be one of those things that some people find better, some people find worse, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
I absolutely agree on drafts and queue being so hard to get to -- I noticed that the other day. It takes quite a few clicks to get to them when they were previously available right from the main page.
And the biggest agree on Tumblr's feedback sourcing being terrible. I really don't begrudge staff for this -- they have to appease the upper management who are pushing changes without really understanding things, all the while dealing with a userbase who will flip the absolute fuck out over literally any change to the site. And staff has generally been much more communicative about changes than I've ever experienced. But it would be nice to feel like feedback is actually going somewhere other than the void.
Anyway, the ideal would be having a simplified layout that you could opt into via settings, but I doubt that'll ever happen.

Lil commissions update -- they're staying closed for the moment. I've been kinda burnt out on Tumblr and have been trying to rebuild muse/inspiration, but it's slow going. Apologies to anyone on my waitlist, I will not begrudge you if you go with someone else in the meantime.
