//not sinday, i know, feel free to beat my ass for this. been obsessed lately w the idea of Kym being fully in someone's head during some sort of sexual encounter. Just pure unfiltered thoughts fast as she can process them. Getting really flustered by it. Overwhelmed even. But not pulling out, so to speak.
//I really need to figure out some context in which she would allow someone to touch her bc *grabby hands*
//actually wait its past midnight here. It is sinday. I retract my previous offer of beating my ass

//the thing is he absolutely would anyway. like the lack of effect wouldn't stop him. in fact he'd probably enjoy the thought that hes killing his lungs, even if they heal before there's any kind of noticeable damage. he would romanticize it. hell, he'd fetishize it. and i love that for him. I think Kenny smokes cigarettes now. 💛

"I- I see...!" Feigned enthusiasm once again fails to hide his confusion. Dark places, dark matter... none of that sticks in the slightest. Doesn't even have a toehold. But he'd rather not be rude.
"Is it... particularly difficult? The travel? I've never seen any... places that allow for that sort of thing, to my knowledge. Does it not require some sort of ritual?" There were rumors that Astathis had found such a place, actually, now that he thinks about it. Still hard to wrap his head around the concept, but at least this information tracks with what he already knows to be true.
But even if he could figure the actual travel part out, how would he ever find all of them? Seven cousins, stranded most likely in seven different fragments of the multiverse... They could be anywhere. They could be nowhere...
"...I apologize, I am asking you to explain quite a bit, and we've only just met. I believe I can keep the rest of my curiosity to myself, for now." He could ask if they've seen his family anywhere, but what if the answer was 'no'? Could he handle his first sign of hope answering him with disappointment and ambiguity? If they haven't seen them, then has anyone? "Ah- is there anything I could help you with? It is my obligation, after all."
"I see, family troubles can be difficult. " Seems like no figure that they can run into could avoid some of the complications that came with their families.
Atieno hadn't expected to hear any more about it until they heard him speak even further. They raised their eyebrow at the mention of the odds, wondering what he had been referring to.
"Hm. Sent to another verse and so they have likely been there for quite some time now hm?" It was starting to sound a little bit familiar. They weren't sure if they should ask further about such family members.
"I have some knowledge of it from my own experiences but it's hard to try and explain it to others since I had been doing that on my own for years. But I know that a lot of the experiences I've had come from going through obscure hidden dark places as a trans-versal means of going between verses. There are probably other methods one can use."

"Ah- well, it isn't really something you need to concern yourself with. Just some family troubles."
Well, they asked, right? So it'd be rude not to dish at this point. And they seem trustworthy enough, why wouldn't a universe-traversing being be on par with a god?
"Well... It was many, many years ago, when it happened. And if there are far more than just the three Verses I know to exist, then the odds are low, even with my luck..." He bites his lip, pausing to crunch some numbers in his head. Eh, odds be damned. He's been worried about this for centuries, might as well just say it.
He continues with a sigh. "My family has been missing for quite some time now. Sent to some other verse, I'm told. But my kind aren't capable of simply coming and going as we please, and my mother would rather I stay out of it entirely, alas she's no help... Ah- my point being, would you happen to have any information on this trans-versal travel? Perhaps there's just some knowledge I lack that will be the key to it all."
Atieno can somewhat sense when what they are saying makes very little sense. So it's probably best for them to drop it or at the very least.. not worry too much about recognition.
"I wouldn't mind chatting if that's okay with you." Seeing that hint of something, someone familiar is enough for them to still have a bit of curiosity.
"I.. yeah another verse. I don't know if there's a name for it honestly. It originated about 8 billion years ago. So I guess it would be a fourth universe in comparison to what you have already known. But it's within multiple universes that are out there."
Ati does pause a little bit to notice the way he seems increasingly concerned.
"You.. you do seem worried about something. Is that bringing something to mind for you?"

Well... he hasn't liked to believe in fate in years, but... Maybe Benjamin is right. Perhaps they were meant to meet, in some way or another. Through the tears, he manages a small, but genuine, smile.
"...Yeah. Maybe..." God, why does it feel like some weight has been lifted off of him all of a sudden? It doesn't matter, he's going to cling to the feeling as much as he can before it's gone again- no. He physically shakes the thought out of his head. What did he just promise? Can't be doom-and-gloom about this already, what would his new friend think?
...Friend. That word is like, well, like an old friend. It's going to take some getting used to again after all this time. He wipes away what's left of his tears now that both hands are free. Apprehensive thoughts still peck at the edges of his mind, but he's too in the moment to pay attention to them anymore. The high of the slightest hint of validation should be enough to keep him going for a few days, at least, shooing off those pesky nagging anxieties for a little while. He even gets bold enough to venture beyond his neglected cup to snag one of the accompanying snacks. Although this, too, gets turned over in his hands delicately as he thinks.
"...You know, you seem like- like a real good guy. So, uh, y'know, if it was the universe or whatever... Um, thanks." His speech still isn't the smoothest, but he's cried a lot today, so that may just be a feature for the rest of the night. "Just... thanks." Not thanks for putting up with me, or thanks for not kicking me out, or even sorry I'm so much. Just 'thanks'. Even if it means all that and more.
He's right. He always is. He can see straight through Kody, can tell what he's doing, what he's feeling, what he needs, and what he wants even if he's afraid to admit it. He rubs his thumb over the back of Kody's hand in a soothing gesture as Kody nods through the tears. He understands, of course, he does, tears are a language he understands very well.
"That'll be good enough." It's not. There's no such thing as trying, there is only failing and succeeding, doing something or not doing something, trying is for fools and cowards. Still, it's fine. He's already managed to get a hold of Kody and he won't be letting go anytime soon. "Then believe. I will do the same." Another dazzling smile.
He lets go now, slowly, and rises back to his feet. "I am so very glad that we met today. Sometimes, I think the universe really does know just what we need and then brings it to us."

His expression scrunches and stretches for a moment or two, but alas, no matter how many facial muscles he flexes, he's not entirely sure what they're talking about. Oh well, probably best to just nod and pretend he does, wouldn't want to offend what is likely a god of another Verse, after all. And so he nods, as though he understands.
"I see... How very interesting! I am certain I could learn much from you, if we were to chat a while." The formerly pensive expressions give way to a warm, almost familiar smile. There's just a hint of his cousins' faces in that smile.
"Where is it, if I may ask, that you come from? Another Verse, most obviously, but I'm unsure if it would be one I recognize. I'm aware only of three, and while they are quite vast, I'm sure it musn't be one of those." A fourth universe! Well, he knew there must have been one out there, after the rumors he's heard. But could there be more? His search might just go on forever then, if that's the case...
Like many of his more well-known cousins, he's not the best at hiding his emotions. The swell of concern underneath the surface seeps its way under his smile, every now and then.
Atieno feels a little self-conscious. "I mean it's very general - so not about the specifics. " They didn't want to let on that they knew any further than they did, which was.. very little.
They felt even more a little tense at the reveal that however they got this information was from a distantly separated individual.
"I understand, the past tends to have quite the impact in so many ways. But it's nice to meet you Dok. I go by Atieno.. and in my universe, I embody what is known as dark matter." Atieno gives a somewhat bow-like gesture in return.

"Heard about us?" There's amusement in his words now.
"I can't imagine what anyone might be saying. Or how... There's but a select few that can make the trip, and I haven't seen any of them in eons." He pauses briefly, then sighs. Perhaps a bit more conversation is in order before he gets into all that. Curious as he is about their journey here, it probably isn't best to start that conversation with age-old familial drama.
"I apologize, I'm dwelling on the past. Welcome, traveler, to our humble corner of reality. I am known as Dok, God of Fortune. How lucky we are for our paths to have crossed!" He makes a motion somewhat like a bow, but makes no further physical attempt at sealing the greeting. A handshake would be a completely foreign concept to him, after all.

Crossing through multiple universes is always a bit of an interesting venture for Atieno. They had come to know the layout of many in their journeys but this one .. this still felt pretty new relatively speaking.
They supposed that's why their curiosity had brought them all this way in the first place. And honestly, they noticed how well that these gods tended to the mortals - that was genuinely a shock compared to what they had been witness to. A reason why they had shied away from the claims of divinity that some might have put on them in their 'original' universe.
They were but a force, that's all. These figures seemed to take a lot more direct responsibility in ways that were visibly, provable.
Fascinating. Gazing up at the figure, Atieno wonders if they should shift their own size to make conversation a little easier.
And oddly enough, they are somewhat comforted by the tone that's taken with them as well. Hm. What should they make of this?
"Just passing through really. I had heard bits and pieces about this universe. But it's interesting to see it for myself. "

//this WOULD be a fun opportunity to look at Sol's defunct child, but instead you're getting a cousin!
In another universe, far off from our own, and run quite differently, an entirely different cast awaits. The children of Cassonne, all four of them, tend to their mortals as good gods should.
But as luck would have it, the eldest of these siblings, standing roughly 18 feet tall, by Earthly measurements, and with skin splattered in colors orange and brown, takes notice of our intrepid intergalactic interloper.
"Lost, are you?" His voice is warm and bright. One might consider it comforting in a way, yet ever so slightly playful. "Or simply passing through?" There's no question as to whether or not Atieno is from here, no, he's been around long enough to tell that with a glance, but he's certainly got some questions if they've got the time to answer.
