Taste the Taste of Italy - A food article by Eleonore Iyasiah D. Altubar
Tumblr media
Pesto, a flavorful green sauce from Italy that is sold in jars all over the world, was created in Genoa, a port city in the Liguria region of northern Italy, and is typically combined with trofie pasta, potatoes, and string beans. But there are countless other things you can make with pesto.
Genoa, an Italian city in the north, is where the pesto sauce was first created. It dates back to the 16th century and is typically made with Parmesan cheese, olive oil, crushed garlic, basil, and pine nuts. In fact, pesto and pasta are the ideal vehicle for a wide range of delectable supplemental ingredients, including chicken, roast vegetables, salmon, tuna, and shrimp. It is believed that Giovanni Battista Ratto published the earliest known pesto recipe in 1863. It is still present in the pesto recipe that is still found in his book, La Cuciniera Genovese. In Italy, pesto is quite regional. In reference to the original method of preparation, pesto is the past tense of the Genoese verb pestâ (Italian: pestare), which means "to pound" or "to crush." The ingredients are traditionally "crushed" or ground in a marble mortar using a wooden pestle and a circular motion.
Tumblr media
It could be difficult to sum up the flavor of pesto as a whole. The flavor is garlicky and nutty. Herbal flavors are contrasted with a hint of cheese's saltiness. Pesto provides pasta meals that have a savory, rich, and earthy umami flavor. The appearance of a pesto is best described as bright and pungent, with a basil-forward, herbaceous garden aroma suspended with delicate olive oil, enhanced with pine nuts and kicked into overdrive with Italian cheeses and garlic. Pesto is that delightfully green sauce.
In conclusion. Despite having more calories per serving than some sauces, pesto is made with incredibly healthy ingredients like basil, olive oil, and nuts. It seems to me to be a fantastic technique to enhance the flavor of pasta dishes as well as veggies and proteins.

I hate my father - A testimony by Eleonore Iyasiah D. Altubar
I have hated my father for years and nobody understood why. “It’s your father, why must you hate him?” “Siya nagbigay ng buhay sayo” and I understand they would ask me those questions because it is true that he is my father. Although, I stopped considering that man as my father.
This is the reason why. When I was a little girl, I would often see my father abuse my older brother for how many days because of something he did that destroys this man’s masculinity. Although, it’s not always him that gets the physical and verbal abuse. It’s me too. I would either get minimal physical abuse or very bad verbal abuse and every time that happens I always pray to god as if he’ll listen to me. It was never a safe place when he’s around so I was glad he left and had another family to tend to. Me and my brother break our walls every time he would be kind to us, but it always comes back to him being the father we knew and hated.
At the time of the election, I supported Leni. He hated that matter and continued to verbally abuse me. And for me to be fed up with him made him want to “change for the better.” This time though I did not believe such lies and stopped believing him after years of wanting to. Recently, he abused my brother because he is gay and I would do anything to protect my little brothers and sister. Being happy about him having another family feels illegal knowing that my siblings also experience the anger issues of that man. Although, this time I could not even give my brother a hug nor protect him.
In conclusion, children like me who are victims of emotional, physical, or verbal abuse are at higher risk for health problems as adults. These can include mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety.
So never ever tell me to love my own abusive father.

A movie director is looking for teens to act in a movie that will be set in your town. Think of yourself and all the teens you know. Who would you choose to act in this movie? Think why you would choose this person. Write an essay to convince the movie director of your choice.
Tumblr media
If I were given the opportunity to choose one teenager to act in a movie set in my town, It would depend on the teenagers that will go to audition. I don't specifically want to pick myself and other teenagers I know, I would have a few criteria that would have to be met by the actors. Firstly, they will have to act realistically and impressively, and have a charismatic personality that would capture the audience's attention. Secondly, they should have the ability to bring out the humorous side of the film, which will help in bonding with the audience. Therefore, when considering teenagers to act in a movie set in my town, it's important to take into account the unique features of our community. One possible group of candidates could be drama students from the local high school. These students would already have an understanding of the craft and a passion for performing that could contribute to a successful film.
Additionally, they would likely represent the diversity that is present in our town, making the movie even more authentic and representative of our community. The chosen individuals would need to be committed to their craft, putting their best foot forward by bringing their own fresh perspective without overshadowing the others in the cast. They should be open to suggestions from the production team but not afraid to speak up if they disagree on something. It's essential that they create a sense of camaraderie with each other early on, which would not only improve their own performance but would set the tone for the rest of the crew on set. With all these factors in mind, the final ensemble would bring life to the fictional world of my town, creating a true masterpiece.

Shein is Worse Than You!
Tumblr media
Shein has become an incredibly popular clothing brand, but what many people don't realize is how unethical their production processes are. From the poor working conditions of the factory workers who make their clothing, to the environmental impact of their fast fashion model, to the questionable quality of their clothing and its impact on consumer health, Shein is even worse than many people thought. In this essay, I will be exploring each of these topics in further detail. One of the main ethical issues that people have with Shein is the placement of kids in their clothing. The majority of its clothing is made with child labor. This includes everything from their T-shirt designs, to the logos and company websites.
The company has done an excellent job of removing this from the marketing so people can assume all of their products are made without children's labor. However, this doesn't mean that a child isn't actually working for Shein. In fact, the majority of their workers are under the age of 18. When children work for brands like Shein, they are often paid far less than their legal age limit of 15. When working for brands like this, they are also often paid less than the minimum wage, which can easily reach $8.25 per hour. While it is encouraging that the majority of the employees at this brand are under the age of 18, it is important to remember that there are still many who are under the age of 17.
Tumblr media
By taking steps to reduce the number of underage employees in your company, you can save money, make more money, and improve the standard of living for your employees. Companies that produce Shein's clothing have been reducing the amount of sugar being produced for a few years now, but the trend is still ongoing. In all of this, we can see that Shein is still a great brand. But if we look closer, we can see that it is actually worse than we previously believed. The company has been doing this for years, and it just keeps getting worse. Furthermore, the ways that their products are made are not always in an ethical way.
The following are just a few examples: Sleeping on the floors or walls of factories that make only parts of the clothing. In this case, the workers are usually not paid enough to survive. They are often very cold, damp, and often have poor sleeping conditions. Working with poor quality fiber such as hemp or flax. While fiber is renewable and bi-annually, it is often very cheap to produce. But when fiber is produced illegally, it leads to pollution, deforestation, and a decline in the biodiversity of other earth-friendly materials.

The Bullied Kid's Growth
Growing up, I developed major anger issues.I was bullied my whole childhood, both at home and at school. Whenever I would get hot-headed they would always use that against me and call me things I never would call someone. I was bullied for being the only weird kid. When I was grade 7-8 I became the bully myself, because I wanted revenge on the people who have hurted me before. Everybody was scared of me because I might physically hurt them, they hated me, and were angry at me. But despite all that, they still managed to bully me. I was very alone but I was not going to let that stop me from making everyone scared of me. I wanted revenge, that was all I wanted.
Then grade 9 came, I told myself I will never let people see my “true color” or so I thought. One event came in place where I performed the art of feminine rage. And after the events unfolded, I was ashamed because once again my “true color” showed. So ever since then I stopped being angry. I breathe and exhale, always. But then years of healing my inner child, there goes the hurt child coming back. My family mostly was the root of everything, they would always shut me out when I would say my part. One day, I could not contain myself anymore. I was done with all the manipulation, but at what cost? I became the angry child I kept inside me for how many years.
Although this time It was me who I was hurting. I was throwing my things, punching myself, and punching the walls until my hand could not take it anymore. At that moment me and my grandmother, who I called my mother, talked to me for the first time about everything I felt. I was not invalidated, I was acknowledged. She listened to me after so long of trying desperately to be listened to. My bullied child was finally being put to rest, that talk was a big embrace. Things happened to my life that I will never look back on, and I'm constantly reminded of the past. I'm proud of myself for managing my anger, I'm looking for new ways to grow and I'll be okay, soon.

My Own Sonnet 104 by Altubar, Eleonore Iyasiah D.
Tumblr media
Adrian M. Balahadia was born on September 22, 2003. He was born in Chinese Hospital in Manila. Not much was remembered about his upbringing but he recalled his earliest memory about him dreaming of a Transformer movie. Adrian’s father is the most influential person he has, he taught him a lot of things. How to keep his emotions in check, how to be a gentleman, how to be a good person, and a lot more. He said “My dad was there for me when I was struggling, he has a big part in my life and I will always be thankful and grateful for him.” He described his kid self as friendly and loud, back then he was an obnoxious kid, he didn't have a care in the world. He would meet a lot of kids around the neighborhood and play with them. Adrian has a lot of nicknames. “In our neighborhood I was always called Ian, in school back in high school I was called Dian, then in College everybody calls me Adi. Inside the house I get called by my full name, always.” Adrian was afraid of the dark most of his childhood, but then he overcame that fear. His current fear is deep waters. A lot has happened surely throughout Adrian's life.
In highschool Adrian went to Montessori Academy of Malibu located in Malibong Matanda, Pandi, Bulacan. Adrian had two favorite subjects, and those were English and Mathematics. In English, he learned a lot about grammar and how to properly construct sentences. The English subject also built up his confidence. Then in Mathematics Adrian enjoys the part where he gets to solve things and get the right outcomes. He also joined some clubs in high school, he was part of the Volleyball club. He tried in the Student Council but did not win the voting. There's also the Journalism Club where he tried doing school news, but it eventually disbanded. There were two exceptional teachers that played a big part in Adrian’s life. There was Sir Elmer, he made Math look easy, he was entertaining them to gradually learn the lesson and it worked, then there's Sir John Lloyd who was his English teacher, he would make them laugh all the time but also made sure that they were learning. Adrian said “Up until now I still use some of his techniques in my college life. So I am very grateful for them.”
Tumblr media
Currently, Adrian attends STI College Balagtas. The course he took in college is BS Psychology, because for the longest time he was fascinated by the human mind and how it functions, and also other aspects of it are very fun to learn. The on-campus Adrian participated in is the Photography Shoot in prelims. Also played volleyball, and lastly he was the host of a school event. Adrian was not mentally prepared for college at all, in fact he was scared about his college life and how hard it would be for him. He attended something that I had no experience in. But despite it all, he’s gladly enjoying the ride.
Adrian shared some of the worst and best things that happened in his life, when he lost his dog Sugar. Adrian described his dog Sugar as sweet and caring, it was tough for him losing a pet and most importantly a friend.
The best thing that happened to him was that he’s currently doing great in college, something he didn't expect he could do. Adrian also shared his accomplishment that he was most proud of, he said “when I got an award for being the best Public Speaker, because of that it had a big boost in my confidence.”
Adrian had a good impact on people he surrounds himself with, people surrounding Adrian were surprised to learn that beside the people’s impression of him as the happy go lucky nonchalant guy was actually a good listener and adviser. When they got to know him, they would message him via social media or even visit him to ask about this and that. He was the person that would always make peace between two people, that's why back in high school they were all so close to each other. Because there were no filters, and they had a lot of fun. they would remember him as this guy that has control over his life. One of the main lessons that Adrian still reflects on, is that always keep your emotions in check, and whatever happens, happens. Let go of the things we have no control, let life decide what will happen. If you have control then you decide what will happen.
In conclusion, I consider Adrian as one of the important people in my life. Adrian has been a good friend not only to me but to others as well. He will always be a part of my life, and a person I will look up to. We may take different paths in our lives but I will never forget my friend, Adrian.

The calm after the storm by Altubar, Eleonore Iyasiah D.
I was born on May 18, 2005, in my hometown of Dumaguete City, Philippines. My birth time is 4:00 a.m. In my childhood, my young self was constantly alone. My classmates bullied me, called me names, and made me the odd one out. Nobody wanted to be my friend until one person agreed to be one. My best friend of 8 years stayed when no one else would, and my life is no longer a trashfire. He helped me realize that my life should not be wasted and that I should make the most out of it. He taught me things I would never have learned on my own. I won’t go on any further, to make the long story short, my life got better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fortunately, I had a strong desire in learning new skills such as guitar, sketching, dancing, and singing, and now they all got me to where I am now. But, most significantly, I am enthusiastic about creating music and art. This passion gave me a strong understanding of how to achieve better, and my desire of having people supporting me came true. Today, I create music and art that others seem to enjoy, and I'm really delighted about it.
Because I am optimistic, I am confident that my abilities will take me further. I aspire to be a professional artist in the field of  arts. I work hard and spend my free time practicing new techniques, watching art and how it is done with well-known artists in the world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, I understand that life is not just a bed of roses, and challenges and hardships are an integral element of life. My parents barely helped me in my academics, it was always my brother that got their attention. At a very young age, I abandoned my academic obligations because I thought, what was the point of everything? But now, I realized that it’s never too late to change it all. Make everything better.  So if I had the chance to meet my younger self, I would give her a hug so tight to show how proud I am that she stayed no matter how hard life gets. Now, I have come to terms with who I am after finding the right answers to my forever question. I identify as genderfluid, my friends were finally happy that I became who I have become.
I have come to believe that two main factors determine success. The first is a person’s determination and will to succeed. Are you ready to make sacrifices to achieve your goal? Are you prepared to recover after failure and proceed to your goal again? Without strong internal motivation, it is nearly impossible to become successful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Equally important is the support of people around you. Being determined to succeed does not mean alienating everyone and stepping on other people to achieve your goal. On the contrary, success is about recognizing your weaknesses and accepting support from people who genuinely want to help you. For instance, if it were not for my parents, my friends, and people I never even had a connection with supporting me I would have a hard time accepting me and the things I do.
Will be forever grateful.
