I’ve had so many people ask me what this shade is, I snapped a pic when I got my nails painted with it the last time. Lemme tell you it looks even better in person. I love, love, lurve it. You can get it on The Amazon if you want to buy the polish yourself. Jsyk, you’ll have to use 3 coats to get an even colour. Hope you like!

Here’s the deal. Eminence’s Organic Yam & Pumpkin Enzyme Peel is not cheap but smells delicious as sin & makes your skin look so beautiful when it’s done. Try not to lick it off your face - it may be organic but it’s not edible. So sad. That being said I may have brought it very, very close to my lips. 

There’s a 5% & a (Pro) 20% strength available. Unless you have a face made of Grecian stone, I wouldn’t recommend the latter. The 5% is plenty effective. You can feel the tingly immediately.  The 5% product is $46 on Eminence’s site but cheaper if you shop around.

Did I say it smells amazing?

It makes a great holiday gift for a friend - or yourself. It will get you through the holiday dryness that Winter likes to havoc on your skin. And the fragrance will put you in the mood to sing old Glee songs. 

Ok, I’ve typed enough. Go & get it. After you watch Thor: Ragnarok. I mean, it’s essential that you treat your eyes, too!

I’m always looking for interesting ideas to make a space look deliberately crafted. A long-time book lover, these ideas from EOS will surely make their way into my home. My fave tips from Erin are using a different colour or texture on the back wall, creating some shelves that show symmetry & using baskets and photo frames for beauty and practicality.

Breaking Down Barriers with Favelagrafia

Favelagrafia (@favelagrafia) is a photo collective, bringing together nine photographers living in nine Rio de Janeiro hilltop slums known as favelas. “The objective is to show the potential of these places and to tell the stories of important characters who make up the favelas,” says 29-year-old Josiane Santana dos Santos (@eujosiie), a photographer, journalism student and one of the founders of the project. “We want to break down the barriers of prejudice and stereotyped visions that exist.”

This is one of Josiane’s favorite photos, featuring her friend, a 23-year-old dancer named Ygor Raphael. “I made this photo to show the artistic and cultural potential that the Complexo do Alemão favela has, showing that our main weapon is art,” she says.

For lips that need a little winter love right about now

Just like fine lines and wrinkles make you look older, dry, chapped lips with deep lines in the mouth adds years to your face. To remedy:

1. Use a lip scrub weekly. Exfoliating removes dead skin revealing softer, smoother lips underneath. I like to scrub the skin around mouth and the corners of the mouth, too, which people often forget about! After exfoliating, rinse with cool water and gently pat dry

2. Moisturize your lips often. Nothing works better for me than good ol’ Vaseline. Vaseline is an ointment base with protectant and occlusive properties, meaning that it soothes and creates a barrier to seal moisture in the lips. The best way to use is to put it on when your lips are slightly damp – I like to apply right after brushing my teeth. Always moisture after exfoliating and put on just before bed. Vaseline is a refined product but if you’re worried about reports of cancer-causing components in petroleum jelly, beeswax and shea butter are other great options

3. Add some colour! It doesn’t just make your lips look more appealing, it adds to a youthfulness to your whole face.  If you just don’t like the feel of lipstick or gloss, go more au natural with a tinted lip balm

p.s. While you’re at it, get into the habit of relaxing your lips. You’ll feel so much better having them pinched or in a frown. Then you’ll always look pleasant for when your friend snapchats a “gotcha” pic.

Ruby’s Edible DIY Lip Scrubs

“Classic Swirl” – 1 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, ½ tsp honey, 1 tsp oil (olive, jojoba, or sunflower)

 “Lemony Licks” – 1 tbsp caster sugar, ½ tsp lemon juice, ¼ tsp lemon zest, 1 tsp oil (olive, jojoba, or sunflower)

“Mint That!” – Follow recipe for Lemony Licks and add 1 drop (food grade) peppermint oil

Tip: You can refrigerate the scrub but it may not be as fragrant the next week so use any extra as a cuticle or hand scrub

The 1st thing that comes to mind when I think of green is nourishment. I’m trying to think of a naturally green food that isn’t healthy for you. Can’t. Then my thoughts drift to nature & Ireland, which I haven’t been to yet but have wanted to go since I was a child. Green really is a beautiful, brightening colour. Well, the right shade of green anyway. Even though green was my mom’s favorite colour, she only actually liked a few shades. I always got that. If you’re wearing green or using it in décor, you can go very right or very, very wrong.

Pantone has chosen Greenery as the 2017 colour of the year. Not sure how I feel about the shade yet. It has a strong yellow undertone, which waves bye to happy & skips straight to jolly. I can see it fitting in with modern décor though, especially if there’s a steady amount of natural light streaming into the area.

Even as an accent, greenery makes a bold statement. Which I think was the point. We’re living on hope in a politically uncertain time that has far-reaching consequences. If only this shade really had the power to evoke peace & unity. However, as it stands, we need all the encouragement we can get. So, if a greenery-hued plant or vegetable or cushion helps to symbolize growth towards a solid & vibrant future, then live out loud & add a splash of greenery to your home.

Luca Guadagnino’s home outside of Milan

The ultimate set of Italian film maker Luca Guadagnino is own apartment. It is housed in a 17th-century palazzo and plays out all his aesthetics: atmospheric spaces where contrasts coexist harmoniously (like modern Danish chairs in a room with doors lavishly embellished in the Lombardian Baroque style). The renovation has uncovered frescoes and every original elements has been preserved.

Vancouver is probably my favorite city in Canada. I’m sentimental towards Halifax; it’s where Taylor was born (although she’s still Antiguan to me). It’s not that Vancouver has the most things to do – Toronto probably wins there, plus has the huge Caribbean influence. But I love driving to VanCity. I can get from my home to Granville and Park in a happy haze filled with a Tall Soy Chai Latte, extra hot.

For Canada Day, I wanted Taylor to feel more of a connection than, “Remember that place you were born that had the maple leaf flag?” Truthfully, I wanted the connection myself. It’s only been 4 years since we moved from Ontario but it might as well be 10. What better way to reconnect than do a little staycation/vacation?

Things have been busy, so planning was a little last minute buhhhtt I still managed to put together a nice, quick getaway itinerary. First the hotel – always the hotel! I love hotels btw & I’m one of those people who actually scopes out all the amenities. I know the hotel is often where you “lay your head”; it’s just that after a busy day I want a lovely place to lay my head. I also love a good deal so enter discounts, promos & hotel packages. Always always check AAA if you’re a member. Check work & association discounts – my BCPhA discount can give up to a 70% discount on choice spots. Then there are packages that the hotel puts together that can include valet & vouchers - you have to do a little calculation to see if the package is value but the extra effort is worth it.

This time ‘round the winner was Wedgewood Hotel & Spa. Very classic. Cushy and detailed.  Great location. It’s not glossy with super clean lines but is charming and well-kept.

My favorite details:

Food – flavours were on point, although my dinner portion was a tad small

Staff! So attentive!

Unique curb appeal & welcoming foyer

Room layout and furnishings (except for the curtain pattern – maybe it’s a British fave?)

Gym leading to outdoor patio

Steam room, complimentary to all guests

Coal Harbor for late-night fireworks (my camera skills were crappy here, sorry!)

Dockside restaurant – the outside ambience & view really is as nice as they say

Vancouver Water Park (also on Granville Island)

Telus World Science Museum – Taylor’s favorite activity

Robson Street for strolling and eating street food

Sunday (checked out at 11:59 am – yep, I used every last minute)

Late morning sleep in

Window shopping

Afternoon (High) Tea at Bacchus Restaurant  

What we didn’t get to do:

Kitsilano Pool – it’s supposed to be a bit of paradise amidst the city

Sky Train – definitely needed more time to map out a route

Aquarium – due to deficiencies in my internal navigational system, which leads me to my final whoop:

 I did out whole trip the old-fashion way – using naught but a map! I feel so accomplished with that little fact I think I deserve one of those trophies that every kid gets at every kiddie match just because. Which is totally fine with me.
