“Lucifer!” Paulina called out to the mam, walking over with a genuine smile on her face. “Have you been avoiding me? I know I left unexpectedly but I came back in time for this super cute festival.” She batted her eyes at him. “Don’t tell me you have a date already to this. I don’t want you to see my jealous side.”

Hearing his name from a familiar voice he hadn’t heard from a while, Lucifer turned around and smiled at the girl. “Why would I ever avoid you?” he asked, feigning offense as he put a hand over his heart. “I don’t. No need for your jealous side to come out tonight, sweetheart.”

The reason Randall at least somewhat enjoyed working at Stuck In a Book was because of the peaceful vibe it held. Randall didn’t like to be bothered often, and customers at this store for the most part kept to themselves, only bothering him when they were ready to check out. Randall was trying to enjoy the silence of the store and read a book of his own during his down time, but it was hard to do so when he could sense a customer that seemed to be wandering the store aimlessly. Assuming they were lost or confused, he went out of his way to see why they were taking so long to book shop; he didn’t like it when people hung around the shop for too long. “Were you trying to find something in particular, or just looking around?”

Lucifer enjoyed reading. It was a relaxing past time. Many nights he’d sip on a few glasses of wine while reading a few chapters of his latest read. He’d finished the series he had been reading and needed something new. So, he stopped by the book store. He was browsing around, not the slightest idea what he was looking for when he was approached by an employee. “Ah, yes. I’m not really sure what I’m looking for. I need a new, exciting read. Anything you can recommend?”

With a stack of posters for the newly updated show tucked between her legs, Gigi was struggling a little to tape one of them up to the side of a building downtown. This wasn’t normally her job, but when their director said they needed help she was quick to volunteer. Any chance to help the circus out was one she was going to take. Biting at her bottom lip to concentrate and using her elbow to hold the poster up, she wrestled with the roll of duct tape as she tried to rip off a piece. “Uhmm, excuse me?” she asks, looking up at the person walking by and thankfully catching their attention. “Do you have a moment?”

Lucifer was walking downtown to one of his favorite places to eat. He didn’t mind going to eat alone. He enjoyed his solitude. He would much prefer it there was a pretty lady sat across from him and paying the bill but that wasn’t the case that evening. His attention was grabbed when a pretty young woman asked for his time. At first he wanted to scoff and keep going but he saw this as an opportunity. “What can I help you with?”

Gen rolled her eyes, her temper simmering only a little bit. “You have nice legs. Use them,” was all she huffed out before returning her attention to her phone. His words almost made her smirk, but she wouldn’t let him have that. “First time I’ve ever heard that one. What do you want now?”

“A compliment? And to what do I owe the pleasure of one?” he teased with a smirk. “First time? Well, dear, you’ve been hanging with the wrong company then. A hot temper isn’t necessarily a bad thing,” he said. “What do I want? Who said I wanted anything?”

Gen had never really hid her sexuality. She liked men, sure, but women? They were far more enchanting. Her first girlfriend was when she was in high school and unfortunately she hadn’t had more than a few hook-ups since. Her break-up was messy enough for her to keep things quick and as she got further into the family business, it really was for the best. She was going to pride because it meant something to her even though she didn’t want to admit that and to further hide her feelings she brought a man of all things with her. Lucifer was a nice little distraction but he was needy. She had the money to fuel his expensive tastes and she appreciated that he cared about how he looked, but some days she really wanted to just slap the shit out of him. Today was starting to become one of those days. “Will you stop with the complaining? I don’t care that you find it too hot I’m not leaving. And if I hear one more whine I might lose my temper.“

Lucifer enjoyed Gen’s company. She had a spicy personality and put him in his place. He liked that in a woman. He liked a fight. Plus, she was loaded and he could schmooze her into getting what he wanted. It was a win-win situation. “Well, it is hot. I just don’t do shorts. Maybe I should reconsider though,” he said with a roll of his eyes. “Lose your temper then. It’s fucking hot when you do.” Flattery was the way to get what he wanted. He hoped at least.

“There are other places to drink,” she stated, getting him what he asked for all while scoffing. In such a tavern like this he would want wine. “I don’t really care. I was just saying there are other ways to reach me, Luci.”

“Maybe I like this place best.” That may not have been true but it was a comfortable place. “Why do you keep insisting I was trying to reach you?”

“Is there any reason you’re stalking my job?” Laurette asked the older man, bored as usual. She had to admit; seeing him in general made her feel..something. But that didn’t mean she was just going to let him get away with it without a little teasing first. “If you wanted to bug me, you still have my number.”

“Stalking your job?” He feigned offense. “I would never. Can’t a man get a drink without being questioned?” he asked as he sat directly in front of her at the bar. “Maybe I lost it. Maybe I got a new phone. You don’t know.” He looked over the beer taps but nothing was piquing his taste buds. “Give me a glass of red,” he demanded.

For once Lucifer was shopping for himself with his own money and not having a wealthy woman buying for him. He wanted a nice, new outfit to impress Paulina since she was always doing the buying. He didn’t want her thinking he couldn’t afford nice things for himself. While he was browsing he spotted a young kid. What could a kid like him possibly afford here? Unless he was some trust fund baby but he didn’t look like it. Lucifer was only a few feet from him and could see what he was looking at. “The tie you’re looking at would never go with the pants you have in your hand, you know.”

Paulina nodded in agreement. “Then that’s that. We get a new outfit and then we show up and make everyone feel gross and poor because we look so good. And then we eat! It sounds like a date to me!” One where she didn’t have to pretend to like the other person she was with for once. Go figure. She handed him the keys to her car. “You can drive. I want to paint my nails on the way.”

“We’ll be dressed to the nines!” he exclaimed. Was he taking advantage of Paulina’s money? Maybe. Would he admit that? Likely not. “A date?” he inquired. “If you say so, princess.” He grabbed the car keys. “You mean to tell me you don’t have them perfectly manicured and painted right now? I’m disappointed.”

Paulina smiled. She liked a guy that could just go with it. She was pretty sure she had it figured out that Lucifer liked her money, but so? She did too! She was rich, hot, and bored. Might as well make the most of it. “I’m thinking seafood. Sound good? We should probably get outfits too. Can’t show up anywhere a fashion disaster.”

“Seafood. Hm, I could go for a good for a good lobster bisque or grilled salmon. Yeah, that sounds good,” he said. “Being unfashionable would be a disaster,” he agreed. Though he was sure he had plenty of good clothes for the occasion he wasn’t about to turn down a new outfit. Especially one that he didn’t have to pay for.

“Are you busy?” Paulina asked, not really caring if the answer was no. “I want to go out tonight. So you’re going to be my date. I want to spend a lot of money and not give a crap about it. So….are you in?”

Lucifer looked up from his phone to Paulina. “I’ll have to check my calendar,” he said knowing full well he had nothing else going on. For effect he opened the calendar application on his phone and showed it to her. “Looks like you’re lucky day. I’m free as a bird.” He grinned at her. “Where did you want to go, princess?”

“You know very well who I am.” Lor replied back boredly watching Lucifer for a moment before the smirk was back. “What? Its a small pet name darling. No harm meant and no harm done.” Shrugging, Lor crossed their arms over their chest. “Thats fair. Tell me how many girls havent fallen for your bullshit tonight? Two? Three?” 

Lucifer did recognize the other. He smirked at them. “I’m afraid you’re not very memorable. Perhaps I need a refresher,” he said. “The night is still young who said I’ve tried at all yet?”

Lor took advantage of the confusion to snatch the boys drink, giving a quick flash of a smile before they finished it off for him. Slipping it back on the table, they pursed their lips into a small frown. “Now Lucy goosey, who has been telling you they have been having great fucking times with you?” They smirked fully now, cocking their head to the side. “So Im guessing you arent very lucky.” 

Lucifer scowled at them when they took his drink. “Who the fuck do you think you are? Just taking someone’s drink?” His eyes narrowed. “Don’t call me that,” he grumbled. “I wouldn’t consider it to be your business.”

“See that is the problem here. You find people interesting which means you are on the lower level when it comes to using your brain.” Looking him up and down, Lorence rolled his eyes. “I doubt you have an interesting bone in your body, let alone anything even nicer than ordinary about you.” Their eyes went to the mans drink for a moment. “Tell me, what all would I get out of talking to any of the ladies here?” 

Lucifer narrowed his eyes at the other. He couldn’t tell if he had just been insulted or not. The next thing they said though Lucifer knew he was being made a fool off. “Excuse you. I didn’t come up to you out of nowhere and begin insulting you, you fucking egg head,” he said. “Um, isn’t it obvious? A great fucking time and if you’re lucky even more.”
