SweatMobile: Community App for Runners, Monetary Support for Elites
Do elite runners want to share their training secrets with the world? Surprisingly, many are happy to. Do fans and aspiring runners want to see how their idols are training on a daily basis? Of course. Before now, has there been a user-friendly running-log app to accomplish these goals? Well... there have been a couple that our coaches may have required us to use, and that we were committed to for a few weeks. Yet with these sites, we weren’t able to view the workouts of our favorite athletes as if they had told us personally, and we certainly didn’t treat the log like one of our top social media apps (they weren’t part of our social media “rounds” i.e. —Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & repeat until you’ve seen it all). The new app, SweatMobile, created by elite runners and backed by powerhouse running entrepreneur, Nick Symmonds, brings the running world something fresh, new, and daring.
SweatMobile has been in the works of elite runner, Kevin Batt, and a group of talented recent college grads from Adams State College, for over a year. It officially launched today and is available for a free download on iOS. Runner iPhones around the nation have downloaded the app with hopes of connecting with each other, staying accountable, and being motivated by their favorite athletes’ dedication. We heard from founder, Kevin Batt, about the intentions and goals of SweatMobile and just what makes them so innovative:
What is SweatMobile's mission?
SweatMobile hopes to bring a unique experience for fans to interact with their favorite athlete's. We hope to one day to have many of the worlds top athlete's across a wide variety of sports logging their chosen workouts on Sweat. We are committed to financially rewarding athletes for posting and sharing their insights as the company grows.
Do you hope to create a community for runners that isn't already there?
Some people initially think “why would I share my training?”, but before Instagram and Twitter were very popular, people thought the same thing about sharing photos of themselves training. Everyone’s training is tailored differently to suit each specific athlete, but it is interesting to see what other athletes do on a day-to-day basis. The distance running / track & field community is very supportive of fellow athletes because we all understand the amount of hard work that is required.
How will SweatMobile benefit the every day runner?
It will allow people to have an insight into professional runners’ training & see how much work is required to break onto that level. It’s meant to inspire, teach and motivate the everyday runner to achieve their own personal goals.
Do you think tracking progress is vital for improving as a runner? Yes I really do. Everyone is different, but I have been running on a competitive level for 5 years now and log every day via a boring excel speed sheet. From this, I can predict within range how my races will go by looking through the several weeks/ months of training prior and can see trends what led to good & bad performances. It is also satisfying to log your training as you can look back on that week and say I was able to achieve your target goal of training.
What might be most influential words in SweatMobile’s description? For the elites—"support”; for fans and amateur runners—”community”. Professional runners that log their training with SweatMobile receive compensation, while everyone else has access to a training log and the chance to join a closer community by sharing and viewing workouts of runners everywhere. The question is, why did it take so long for someone to create a running log catered to the “social media generation” ? We wish SweatMobile the best and can’t wait to start logging (as soon as we download the iOS 8.4 update)!

Note to self and to others be warned: don’t leave your running pack in a bush even for a quick detour run up Angels Landing. The local rodents WILL help themselves to your snacks, even if that means chewing holes through your pack. #souvenir #sharethetrail #ziontraverse #trailrun #legday @gregorypacks

yum!

Lunch. This rice bowl was similar to the one I had a few days ago (and topped with the same chipotle sauce), but I also added sliced sweet potato and maple syrup to the beans. 🍚😋

Some runs are going to suck.
Running is not always a pleasant experience. Sometimes you push through pain, bad weather, cramps, throwing up, falling down and bleeding, whatever just to get your miles in. No matter how experienced of a runner you are, not every run can be amazing.
Social media is a “highlight reel”. You probably usually see people posting the great runs. But that’s deceiving to those of you who are newer to this. Sure, MOST of my runs are amazing. But not all of them can be!
To remind you all that not every run can leave you feeling like a majestic gazelle, I’ve decided to make a tag dedicated to the shitty runs. So if you ever need this reminder, you can check this tag out:

Obviously it’s not every bad run I’ve ever had in my 15+ years of being a runner, but I quickly looked through my workouts and found some of the REALLY bad ones I’ve had since making this blog for ya. And I’ll keep it updated as they come. Enjoy my suffering lol
