So, this little exchange from Rise of Clovis has always bothered me and I want to talk about it:

Padme: I didn’t appreciate how personal this was for you. Clovis: Now, maybe you will trust me. Padme: I’m here, aren’t I?

Clovis: I want to thank you for everything you’ve done for me.  I don’t think I would have had the strength alone- Padme: Clovis, don’t.

I always find myself getting really irritated with Padme here, in part because I want to know what he was going to say, but mostly because he was trying to be vulnerable with her and she immediately shut him down, which just strikes me as shitty, especially when it comes right after she implied that she was there for him.

Maybe it’s because I find his character really easy to empathize with but I look at it like this: you’re trying to earnestly express gratitude to someone you trust and feel very close to because they supported you during an unstable time in your life. You just shared something personal with them, and that person just implied that they’re here for you and trust you. And then when you say “Thank you for supporting me during this time, it’s been really difficult for me” they go: “Whoa, don’t tell me all that.”

I would feel fucking awful.

It especially sucks because we don’t get to see men be vulnerable like that very often in media; usually when men have emotions*, they’re big outbursts of emotion, but they don’t often just get to say “This has been difficult for me and I wouldn’t be able to handle it on my own”.

*expressions of male emotions that Padme will accept include mass murder, but don’t you dare be honest about your feelings, fellas.

Are there any accent knowers out here who can tell me exactly what type of accent Clovis has?

"Of course," He gave her a tired, yet relieved smile, happy to see her and happy to have an excuse to leave his office. "I would love to take you home."

He stood and stretched, closing the blinds in his office before wrapping an arm around her waist.

"Shall we?"

“I don’t know if I would say I’m ‘locked up’,” he said somewhat defensively. “I can leave any time, I just…”

He wasn’t really sure what he could say that didn’t sound pathetic.

“I just lost track of time, is all…”

Clovis had been in his office all day and was on his way to spending all night there as well. It wasn’t as though he had any particularly pressing business; he was just trying to avoid going back to his apartment and being alone all night.
