END OF THE RUSSIAN CIVIL WAR!

1st May 1918

With the Kaledin-Savinkov coup over, the White movement sets their eyes on ending the civil war - by fighting the Reds.

Under the command of Ataman Kaledin and Boris Savinkov, the Whites have retaken their lost territories in a surprise attack, catching the Reds by surprise, restoring borders to the start of the civil war.

The Reds, further surprised, were approached personally by a White delegation asking for reunification. Leon Trotsky has met with Kaledin and Savinkov, and has agreed to surprising terms: establishing the White territories as an autonomous part of the Russian Soviet Federative Republic, with a right to rule themselves. In their new communist nation, each member of the cabinet was also named a permanent member of the military council of the new country.

This was met with wide celebration, the day being set as a national holiday as parades are held throughout All Russia. The Russian Civil War has ended in just under 6 months, preventing widespread bloodshed, and the people are in celebration whilst the international community silently watches the success of communism.

This celebration was cut short with a day of grieving - unfortunately, it seems Boris Savinkov has been assassinated by subversive forces in Russia. A national funeral is set to be held on the 2nd of May, with the man to be buried in Petrograd. It seems that the White Movement is still alive and kicking, and many ask - will this peace last?

POWER STRUGGLE ENDS BY SUICIDE

4th April 1918

With a majority of the White Movement opposing him, Kolchak has taken the executive decision to hang himself. His body was found in his residence in Novocherkassk, and with Mikhail Alekseyev seemingly gone, the Kaledin-Savinkov alliance now leads the White Movement, though only time can tell what will happen.

PANDORA'S BOX

30th March 1918

Inaction in the Whites! As Kaledin and Dutov can only cover their fronts, the Reds have started an attack into Eastern Kazakhstan without any resistance.

Considering the inaction of the White leadership, two figures have started organising an opposition to Kolchak and his clique’s authority. In the military, Kaledin, with the aid of Sergey Markov, have started petitioning officers to oppose the dictatorship to great effect, instead promoting active actions to take down the Reds.

In the civilian arm, Boris Savinkov has allied with Georgy Lvov and formed a coalition between the Mensheviks, the Social Revolutionaries, and the Kadets. They oppose the dictatorship also, riling up the population to protest against the White leadership.

FLAMES OF OPPOSITION

10th March, 1917

The Bolsheviks have signed a treaty with the Central Powers! They have now ceded the Baltics and Poland to the Germans, whilst also recognizing Ukraine’s independence, allowing them to focus solely on the White rebellion. They launched an attack on Novochercassk and Terek, but were rebuffed by Cossack forces led by Kaledin and Dutov. Note on Cossack, as no other White forces joined the battle, which lead both Atamans to make a statement: “We do not care what form our government takes. Democracy or dictatorship, we only want competent leaders, and so far the leadership of the Whites have been incompetent. If this continues, we Cossacks will carve our own path.”

This has sparked the flames of opposition within the Leftists and the Kadets, who have separately supported the statement and protested the continuation of the dictatorship. Unrest is now the norm in White territory.

TWO STEPS FORWARD, THREE STEPS BACK

2nd March, 1918

It seems the White Army leadership has finally moved to action! They have officially denounced Petrograd Soviet Order no. 1, restructuring their army to conform to pre-Bolshevik intervention.

This has also been complimented with a successful retaking of Volgograd and Astrakhan, inspiring even more men to join the White Movement,

However, it seems that all is not well - the White Movement have instated a Military Dictatorship, whose leader is still undecided, with many referring to it as the “Military Regency”. This has received massive backlash from the Kadets and the Leftists of the movement, with Boris Savinkov notably being under fire for “betraying the people’s ideals”.

The red army rains red

On the 24th of February 1918, soviet spies dressed as peasants traversed into the White territory with no resistance, they managed to gather significant intelligence about a white army offensive being led by Lavr Kornilov into Volvograd. On their exit, they were caught by white army soldiers eating some canned beef, and promptly executed. The soviet union took charge, a mass number between 1000-2000 troops were mobilised from the regions of Volgograd, and are present in a U-shaped defensive formation on the north east of the red army-white army border.

They were also agitated by the lending of the Czechoslovak Corps to White Army command by the Entente and the increasingly effective recruitment program of the White Movement.

1st February 1918

After a week of being bankrupt, the decentralised government of the White Movement has finally moved forward with an economic plan to bring them out of zero. They have restarted the collection of taxes, and provided farmers with subsidies, whilst gaining a 2% interest loan of 10 million rubles from the British Empire.

On one fine night, Georges Benjamin Clemenceau also decided to trade with Russia. Russia has gained another 10 million rubles, through the trading of crude oil and gas. 

However, confusingly enough, they have started a Universal Basic Income program, stating that “The People of Russia are paid enough to sustain themselves and the rest comes to the States Privy Fund to be used during the Emergency”. Whilst many are glad, most are confused, and many among the political right wing - lead by Aleksei Kaledin - are enraged by this obvious Bolshevik tactic.

WOOHOO… just a bit though

1) Troops consisting of 2000 soldiers and 1000 infantry to be sent immediately to stop the advancement of the Ukrainian Army- accepted with 500 Russo casualties 

2) Order for rapid industrialisation in the western region of the Russian state and Petrograde.- Accepted, more factories are built economic reforms seen in the western regions of Russia 

3) Send funds for food grains and basic necessities with immediate effect to the people residing in Ukraine as well as the other parts of the Russian Territories- Accepted, living conditions becoming better and more people are in favour of the white army's rule in Russia 

4) Introducing events and cultural programmes for public entertainment and cultural unification of the Russian Region- Completely Rejected

There’s only one tiny downside however, Russia’s going broke….

After shockingly refusing an offer for 50 million rubles, Russia’s economy is tanking as they send grains and industrialise with money that they simply don’t have.

THE BRITISH HELP… SLIGHTLY

10th January, 1917

In a bid to secure the Russian people, Kolchak has petitioned the British government to aid the ailing Russian state. This has surprisingly been accepted - under the condition that White forces still fight the Great War.

However, it seems that the agreement only partially went through - loans and cuts to oil and gas prices were not delivered, seemingly blocked by the protest of British businessmen.

KALEDIN’S CALL

7th January 1918

In the midst of their failures, it seems that the White Movement could still increase recruitment into their army ranks, though notably not even enough to combat the Ukranians. Notably, Boris Savinkov has been made head of a “New Fighting Force” of Social Revolutionaries. This however has strained the White Movement’s funding, which has not increased its revenue.

This expansion has also been aided by Aleksei Kaledin’s victory in reclaiming small parts of the Don Cossack Oblast. However, he has declared the White Movement in the council as “incompetent fence-sitting bastards who aren’t even fighting those godless Bolsheviks.” It seems the Cossacks have mostly shaken off their neutrality and followed the Ataman's lead. Kaledin is now here to give a speech to the White Army leaders.

THE WHITE ARMY CAN’T DO ANYTHING BUT JINX THEMSELVES, OOPS!

1st January 1918

“Bring back glory to the White Army”

The entire world was waiting with bated breath to see the military actions of Russia, yet all they hear is news of Russia’s humiliation and the White Army’s incompetence as tens of thousands of people are reported to be dying from famine every single day.

On the 28th of December 1917, Ukraine carried out an overwhelming military operation on the north of white army-controlled territory.

White Army’s spies (god bless their soul) have also conveyed information regarding Ukraine’s invasion into Bolshevik territory.

The following land has been successfully captured with little to no resistance on the white army’s northern front:

However on a good note, Pro-Russian rebel forces have begun uprising and conducting riots at the headquarters of the central rada in Kyiv, Ukraine. 

Upon hearing this news, the chairman of the Rada, Mykhailo Hrushevsky, has released a public statement directed to Russia:

“Russia is losing its glory, we will make Russia lose its glory. Long gone are the days of suppression, now come the days of Ukrainian rule. We will water the fertile, or in Russia’s case infertile soils with your blood.”

THE UKRAINIAN DECLARATION

20th December 1917

The deadline for the Bolshevik’s ultimatum has passed, and tragedy has struck: Ali Aaltonen and Vyacheslav Molotov has been murdered, their Ukranian  assasins caught and promptly executed. The Rada has also drafted an official response:

“We will not bow to Russia any longer. The Ukrainian peoples have a right to self determination, as declared by the fathers of the Revolution itself. We hereby declare independence, and we will fight for our right to govern ourselves.”

Additionally, White Army spies disguised as traveling merchants were found at the border of Kyiv by the Ukrainian Army. Ukraine has viewed this as another act of hostility from the Russian Empire of the Tsars. 

Ukrainian armies have started mobilizing to their borders against both Russian sides, and skirmishes have broken out on the borders, with minor casualties inflicted on both sides.

CIVIL WAR GROWS HOT!

18th December 1917

News from the capital of the new Ukrainian National Republic, Kyiv! It seems that in the midst of the Russian chaos, the Tsentralna Rada has received an ultimatum from the Bolshevik government demanding their complete subservience “...to deal with the forces of the rebel Kaledin.” One of our journalists, Ivan Ivanovich (god bless his soul), had the opportunity to interview Mykhailo Hrushevsky, chairman of the Rada. When asked for his opinion on the ultimatum, he stated:

“My opinion on the matter is ultimately irrelevant. What matters are the opinions of the Ukrainian people, the consensus of the representatives of the Rada. I will say however, with how the Bolsheviks and their allies are running their State, bloodshed would be inevitable.”

Many have seen this as a statement of opposition to the Bolshevik government and discreet support of the White Movement. Only time could tell what this will result in.

On the other hand, members of both the White Movement and the Bolshevik government has somehow accepted a truce, deciding to meet in Volgograd to discuss the fate of Russia.
