I have personally never believed in the concept of restrictive eating when it comes to weight/fat loss. I always believed and suggested to people to eat BETTER instead of less. See this above is speaking the truth… When I hear people saying that they don’t eat because they’re trying to lose fat it makes me laugh (deep inside) because not eating actually slows down the metabolism, so when people start eating restrictively they are actually sabotaging their fat loss efforts; slow metabolism = NO weight loss! The body thinks it’s starving, so it will go on the “survival” mode which means it will literally slow down its calorie-burning capacity in order to “survive”.  In other words, by not eating the body will sense that it is in “trouble”, so it will try to conserve the little amount of energy it has left as much as possible, which will result in a slower metabolism! Fat is emergency storage for your body. Your body will burn muscle first if you get on low calorie diets, so the body is going to use muscles as fuel, yes muscles, so not only the metabolism will slow down, but the body will also lose some precious muscles. So… Moral of the story, you don’t have to eat less - you just have to eat BETTER!! In the above picture you can clearly see the sticking difference between 1575 calories of “junk” foods and healthy foods. Remember this, when you’re eating right you don’t have to constantly worry about counting calories

Healthy Gluten Free Chocolate Cookies! St. Patricks day is coming up and so are all the parties that follow! To be honest, I never liked St. Patricks day. People are always trying to pinch you, leprechauns are scary, and I don’t like the color green unless it’s grass and yummy vegetables....

Fruit tacos with chocolate tortillas
by Kris Mullen
Ingredients:
1 cup whole wheat flour
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/3 cup coconut oil
4 tablespoons agave nectar
1-1/2 cups warm water
1 small papaya
1 mango
1/2 cup blueberries
1 cup strawberries
2 kiwis
Juice from one lime
Directions:
In a large bowl combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa powder. Whisk all the ingredients to combine.
Add coconut oil, agave nectar and warm water to the bowl of dry ingredients.

Mix the ingredients together with a wooden spoon until a large ball of dough forms.

Transfer the ball of dough to a floured work surface and knead the dough for five minutes, adding additional flour if the dough becomes too sticky to handle.
Cut the ball of dough in half and roll both pieces back into a ball. Continue to cut the balls of dough in half until you have 16 even pieces. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.

Transfer one ball of dough to a floured work surface and roll the dough into a circle that is one- quarter inch thick and about five inches in diameter.
Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Do not add oil to the pan because the tortillas need to be cooked on a dry surface. Once the skillet is hot, add the rolled out dough and cook for 30 seconds.

Flip the tortilla and cook for an additional 30 seconds. Repeat until all of the dough has been used and you have 16 cooked tortillas. Transfer the tortillas to a plate lined with a damp paper towel.

Wash all the fruit for the fruit salad. Measure blueberries, chop strawberries, peel and dice kiwis, dice mango, remove the seeds from papaya and peel the skin. Dice the papaya into bite-sized pieces and place all of the fruit in a dish. Drizzle the fruit with the juice of the lime.

To serve, place one chocolate tortilla on a serving plate.

Add a handful of blueberries, several pieces of diced kiwi, a few pieces of chopped mango, several pieces of diced papaya and a handful of strawberries to the center of one chocolate tortilla.

Top the fruit with additional toppings of your choice. Chocolate sauce, shredded coconut, fresh mint and honey all work wonderfully.

Pizza snack bread was one of my favorite snacks when I first started my weight loss journey. It still is one of my favorites. I didn’t want to dive into pizza for a snack, so I needed something to cure the temptations- but in a healthier way. My willpower wasn’t the best back then and I...

I've been doing some research on clean eating today.  In the past with my weight loss, I have fallen victim of sticking to "diet" labeled foods or things with low calorie, but not necessarily nutrition rich. Any advice or tell me about your favorite clean foods?

Obviously, one of the hardest things about eating healthy is when you just CRAVE junk food. I always crave salty snack and so I had to get used to finding alternatives that were better for me when the cravings just wouldn’t go away! Here are a few options for y’all. :)
