In honor of those who lost their lives, their families and the brave responding rescue teams, we remember all those affected. We also want to reflect on the outpouring of love for all Americans on that tragic day and acknowledge how love will always triumph over hate in the end. ❤️ #neverforget #kappaphilambda

Ever since '95!
On this day 19 years ago, Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority Incorporated was founded by seven beautiful, strong and outstanding women:
Elizabeth *Wizard* Choi
Karen *Ladybug* Eng
Rei *Energizer* Hirasawa
HeeCho *Hobbes* Moon
Chae *Huckleberry* Park
Samantha *Homer* Somchanmavong
Connie *Kool Aid* Yang
Today, Kappa Phi Lambda has grown to over 2,400 sisters with chapters and colonies nationwide, and continues to be the fastest growing Asian interest sorority in the nation! Thanks to our amazing founding mothers, this sorority has allowed other young women to become as strong, independent and motivated as them. The founding of this amazing sorority and sisterhood has allowed sisters to create special memories of their own and build a network full of passion and inspiration. It has allowed all of us to meet new people, explore and expand. We want to take this time to thank everyone that has become part of our lives and we hope to continue growing and reaching our goals.
Kappas, Kappas, Til we die!
~~~
Besides all the official congratulations, Rutgers Kappas has been doing big things for our founders week and as current publicity chair, I would like to take some time to share our activities. :)
We recently held our annual Charity Ball last Sunday where we were able to raise over $600 towards the Embrace the Kids Foundation! It was really heartwarming to see everybody who came out to support our event and to see them having a blast at all our activity stations! This years theme was Alice in Wonderland themed. We decided to change it up a bit and leave more time for games for people to play such as Minute to Win It, Black-Jack, Poker, etc. We even had a famous magician put on a show for us and trust me, our minds were blown. Overall the event was a big success and we were so happy to see everyone!
Throughout the week we also had a lot of other events. We held additional fundraisers for Embrace the Kids, had academic workshops for sisters, a movie night (we watched Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs 2 btw, too adorable!), held a cultural workshop, and enjoyed some community service events. It was a busy week yet fulfilling week. :)
Cant wait for more events ahead such as our March Rush event--Kappa Kreations! This Wednesday, March 12, we will be making DIY crafts such as headbands and decorating mason jars. Super excited hehe.
Emergency Update: Hurricane Impact on Blood Supply Has Doubled, New York Blood Center Reports Projected Blood Supply is Down 12,000 Total Units Platelets, with a 5-Day Shelf Life, Need Constant Attention November 8, 2012 / New York, NY – New York Blood Center (NYBC), serving more than 20 million people in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and New Jersey, projects a total cumulative shortfall of up to 12,000 units in the next 30 days because of storm damage to locations where blood is collecte
d. To counter this shortage, NYBC urges donors to visit www.nybloodcenter.org to find locations where they can give blood. Though hospital needs continue to be met, and donors are turning out at blood drives and donor centers, the unprecedented and continuing disruption remains of great concern. “We are so thankful that donors are answering our call, and also appreciate the news media’s help in getting out the word,” said NYBC Vice President Rob Purvis. “Here’s the problem: blood drives are still being cancelled at the schools, churches, and workplaces that were damaged. We need to pick up the slack to a degree we’ve never had to before, and that’s why we’re so urgently asking our communities for help.” The shelf life of platelets is only five days; the shelf life of red blood cells is 42 days. About one in seven people entering a hospital needs blood, and the odds of someone needing a blood transfusion over their lifetime is one in three. “Hurricane Sandy and our continuing disruptions are roadblocks we just have to get past, for the sake of our community blood supply,” Purvis said. “Our neighbors always come through for hospital patients with leukemia, cancer, and accident trauma. We need them to step up again, and schedule an appointment to donate life-saving blood.” To donate blood or for information on how to organize a blood drive, Please call Toll Free: 1-800-933-2566 Visit: www.nybloodcenter.org Blood donors receive free mini-medical exams on site including information about their temperature, blood pressure and hematocrit level. Eligible donors include those people at least age 16 (with parental permission), who weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, are in good health and meet all Food & Drug Administration and NY or NJ State Department of Health donor criteria. People over 75 may donate with a doctor's note. About New York Blood Center: New York Blood Center (NYBC) is one of the nation's largest non-profit, community- based blood centers. For almost 50 years, NYBC has been providing blood, transfusion products and services to hospitals serving more than 20 million people in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, New Jersey, and parts of Connecticut and Pennsylvania. NYBC is also home to the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute and the National Cord Blood Program at the Howard P. Milstein National Cord Blood Center, the world's largest public cord blood bank. NYBC provides medical services and programs (Clinical, Transfusion, and Hemophilia Services) through our medical professionals along with consultative services in transfusion medicine.
