I got shocked yesterday. It stung and it brought tears. I know it's true because I felt it in my body. A window of clarity opened. I am running from my fear of not being loved. My obsession with constant activity is a subconscious behavior to keep me safe from feeling the pain. A subconscious belief that I must earn love drives my action. My conscious mind knows this is not true, yet this knowing has yet to drop into my body. I know what I must do. I need to sit with the discomfort of the painful feelings of not being enough and allow them to burn through me until they are released. I hold a big vision. It's not mine, yet it keeps visiting me; usually in my sleep. It's so exciting that it often wakes me up with a gasp of inspiration. Keeping me in a lucid dream state for hours on end, I wake at sunrise full of energy. The ideas begin to swarm. Anxiety begins to flood my system and I freeze; not knowing where or how to start. I consciously know I must start small, yet my mind is drowning in details. I want to run away, to hide from the discomfort. Exercise and yoga are my favorite escapes; connecting me to my breath and bringing me into a meditative state. A subtle addiction, I crave the rush of calm. It usually lasts a few hours until the energy rebuilds and moves back to my head, triggering a cycle of repetitive thought patterns. My mind short circuits and the pattern repeats. Today I begin a course to reprogram the subconscious scripts that seem to be blocking my progress. I create my reality. I think, therefore I am. Informed by feelings, seeded many years ago, they influence my subconscious patterns intended to keep me safe. Yet they also suppress growth, inhibiting actions that feel uncomfortable. Keeping me stuck in a certain way of being and thus creating a very predictable reality. Where is the magic in that? Power is attractive. Force is repulsive. Quite literally. Vulnerability is an expression of surrender. To trust in ourselves, and in life itself, enough to let go. A knowing that we are enough and that this cannot be taken from us. To be truly and consciously vulnerable is an absolute expression of power. I became present to my breath. Initially soft, subtle and organic. And then with more texture. As the contours expanded, my chest enveloped a zest for life. An awareness fills me. Yet another day in paradise. Lulu commences her morning ritual by crawling into a rest upon my chest. I massage her face as she purrs divine bliss unto my heart. A love beyond words. A gift from surrender. She wrote herself into the script with perfection. Yet another angel enters my life; guiding me home into myself. My body rises to its morning ritual. Taking in the orchestra of sounds from the jungle; accents of animal and human life in the distance. Chanting prayers at the temple just across the river. A realization that I am truly blessed. Another inhale. Rising to my feet. Coffee awaits my lips. The aroma entices me closer. Notes of chocolate and smoked hickory. Tickling my senses. A subtle anticipation. Brewing into maturity. Our first embrace is pure heaven. Instinct calls me to today’s incense, setting the tone for my morning handpan attunement. As my hands touch the smooth steel, we merge into one. A song is born. We ride the wave into the abyss. Losing myself to find myself. Every relationship is in agreement. Always dynamic, evolving and shapeshifting, most live in the subconscious. My mother agreed to raise me to be a decent man. With friends, we agree to be there for one another through good and bad. With romantic partners, we agree to share love and intimacy. In all, we often struggle to meet one another's expectations. It's because they are generally not explicit or expressed. But they definitely exist. We assume the other knows, or should know. And we judge them when they don't. If they really loved us, they should know us better; they should be able to read our minds. Wrong! We are too complex to be fully understood. And they also have a circus playing in their head. There is way too much commotion to make sense of what's really going on. We all have different stories running through our minds. And the only way to bring clarity and coherence between them is through consistent and specific communication. It may not be fun. It might seem to kill the romance playing in our minds. The reality, however, is far from our perception. Open and clear requests can be very fun and even more sexy. May I give you a kiss? Will you please take out the garbage? This is how our needs are met. This is how we actively create harmony. Start talking. Make requests. Love is a right of birth, not something we need to earn. The trauma beneath the yearning to be loved is the thing that blocks us from its flow to us. The way to release the trauma is a process of titration...a gradual process of stepping onto our tender edge and allowing yourselves to feel the emotions that flow through us freely.
