The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion - A. Camus

One of the fascinating things to me about Heather and veronica in heathers (musical) is it a transformation of Ovid and then Shaw’s Pygmalion stories, and is basically a lesbian My Fair Lady
Heather literally creates Veronica. She chooses her colors, makeup, clothes. In Ovid, the pygmalion marries his statue, nbd. But Shaw realizes that Galatea, the statue, needs her own agency. There is a power imbalance, like in Heathers, and Heather views Veronica as a possession, something that belongs to her. In order to grow, Veronica needs to break free, which she does at the party, and Heather responds exactly as Henry Higgins does - you were nothing before me, this is how you repay me, you’ll be nothing without me.
Both Heathers and My Fair Lady end with this essentially unresolved, which makes it then fun to play with in fanfiction.
JD is a creepy Freddy singing ‘on the street where you live’ and Heather launches into ‘I’ve grown accustomed to her face’ after the party and you can’t convince me otherwise.

The Lady of Shalott is an 1842 Arthurian poem about a lady who is cursed to remain confined within an isolated tower, weaving on her loom. She is forbidden to look out her window, and is only able to see the world through the shadows that appear in her magic mirror. One day, however, she turns away from her work. This poem was also turned into a song by Loreena McKennit.

The air had always been so thick between Cady and Regina, the magnetism so obvious. They both knew all it would take was one move for something to happen, for them to fall into something passionate and uncontrollable. And eventually, they did.
If it had happened back in junior year at North Shore, it would have been sweet, and warm, and unashamed.
Instead, it happens in sophomore year at Northwestern. And it's like this.
