I was recently cheering on for a loved one in finishing the task he was assigned to do. I was cheerfully saying, “You can do it!”

It surprised me when he said on a quite annoyed tone, “I know that I can do it. Let me be!”

And that hit me. Sometimes, loud unguided support can sound more like a distraction and pressure rather than love.

So here’s to changing the script and letting people be. Support can also be shown in silent prayers, genuine smiling nods, and sincere letters.

Just because it sounds positive doesn’t mean it’s what people need to hear. Let’s learn to take a pause and be extra sensitive with what others truly need.
