a girl and three sweethearts (好きな人がいるこ)
my very first japanese drama review will be one of my favorite dramas - a girl and three sweethearts, or its original title, 好きな人がいるこ. this was the first drama I got hooked on when I visited japan a couple years ago and I have recommended it to so many friends :)
summary: after being fired from her old job, pâtissier Misaki Sakurai (Mirei Kiritani) runs into her first high school love Chiaki Shibasaki (Shohei Miura). Misaki then begins to work at Chiaki’s restaurant while staying in a share house with him and his two younger brothers, Toma (Shūhei Nomura) and head-chef Kanata (Kento Yamazaki).
review: first off, an amazing cast. the two leads had great on and off-camera chemistry, which is clear from the very first episode. the story itself is cute and a little cliché, but the character development is extremely intriguing. there were many well thought-out plots/surprises, lovable scenes, and humorous side characters that really helped engage viewers. bonus points for the beautiful landscape of enoshima, where the drama took place.
key points: incorporates the "roommate romance" and "love triangle" ideas that are widely used in many east-asian dramas
