suna's curled into a corner booth at cafe marta, a mug cradled carefully in her hands. it's her own, hand-painted with a kitten playing the violin and the perfect amount of glitter baked into the glaze. she only requests one thing, hot water. the tea is her own brew, a loose-leaf blend she foraged and forgot to label. dandelion and mint, maybe?

a tattered magazine from 2014 is splayed open in front of her, turned to a quiz titled “are you the problem?” it’s already filled out in neon pen by someone else, but suna simply marks her answers in the margins.

"what version of yourself do you keep secret?" sends her mind somewhere distant and strange. when she looks up to think, eyes land on junie.

all five fingers wiggle in invitation. it's instinctual, cheerful, completely and cosmically unbothered... as if they hadn’t once shared a room at langston where she’d set off the fire alarm trying to smoke cleanse the mini fridge (twice). "over here!"

suna slathers the thick, golden bee spit onto the back of a flyer. she presses it against the wall, holds it in place, and admires her work.

it reads in hand-drawn bubble letters, an advertisement for palladian’s new unofficial composting initiative. well, sort of.

really, it's just a hole suna dug last week in the back garden with a crystal spoon. technically it hasn't been approved by the school, but it doesn't make her flyer —adorned with doodles of smiling worms, crescent moons, and one very detailed banana peel with a face—any less charming.

but just as she's ready to continue her lone campaign, she sees it, a dragonfly sitting on a dust-covered windowsill, perfectly still, perfectly preserved.

suna picks it up, not in mourning, more in communion. svelte fingers hover reverently over its body, iridescent wings still intact. "you were a messenger," she speaks softly to the being, certain she can feel its soul slipping between planes.

entranced, she doesn't realize someone's passing by... or that it sounds like she's talking to them.

suna was born in izmir turkey, a dreamy lil' coastal city, where the world was slower, softer, and sweetened with salt. she spent the first twelve years of her life there, barefoot more often than not. then, her family moves to greenwich, connecticut (equal parts oat milk and old money) to expand their real-estate empire in the new york city metro area. it's a different kind of dreamy, but she makes it work. suna misses it more than she lets on, especially the smell of the sea. probably why she’s always wandering toward bodies of water. huh.

suna lays curled in the grass as if she belongs there. there's dirt under her nails and a feather stuck in her hair that she doesn't remember putting there. the moon is fat tonight, which probably has something to do with it. 

when her candle snuffs out on its own, she takes it as a cosmic sign to head back to her suite at castle fell. gathering her things haphazardly, suna balances them against her chest, a natural consequence of losing her knapsack somewhere between the bog path and the one tree with a face.

on her way out, her gaze falls on a figure ahead. suna only knows them as fox. not their real name, probably. just a name she’s crafted from half-glimpses, intuition, and one particularly vivid dream.

suna doesn't call out at first, just starts following. not in a creepy way, but in an enchanted woodland creature way. obviously. when the distance finally closes, she lifts her voice as if picking up a conversation from another lifetime. "hey, fox."

suna has no business being in the sculpture garden. last time, security asked her to leave because apparently creating a shrine to aphrodite out of condoms and chicken wire isn’t allowed. or maybe it was the part when she waded in the reflecting pool and started singing hymns. details aren’t really her forte.

but she’s wearing a hat this time—a floppy, lopsided thing she made from felt scraps, straw, and dried lavender. so it’s fine.

eyes scan the garden, seeking inspiration for new cover art for herbancı, her etsy wellness brand. currently more of a concept than a product line, but still.

and then—she sees heath, equal parts brooding and vaguely cursed. "hey," she approaches, canon camera in hand. "can you take off your jacket and pretend the serpent of desire is eating your soul?"

jungle music plays through the static of a half-working bluetooth speaker, that off-kilter rhythm of frenetic drums and layered synth that only sounds good when you stop trying to make sense of it. kind of like suna. 

lissome fingers are stained blue and gold from the constellation she's chalked onto the stone path: a fenrir, a spiral, a path that splits into two. symbols that came to her after accidentally sleeping through history of alchemy for the third time. or fourth? suna's not counting, time's a construct anyway.

a breeze that promises rain sends her hair into her mouth. she wipes it away, smears of pale blue powder decorating her freckled face. when she looks up, her gaze falls on magdelina across the quad.

suddenly, the reversed two of cups tarot she pulled that morning makes sense. 

suna considers saying nothing, just melting into the pavement like a self-preserving cryptid. but then again, she hopes the constellation will catch magdelina's eye, that she'll find it interesting and come closer on her own--- "mags!"

despite how popular her products become, suna is a truly terrible businesswoman, and honestly? she doesn’t care. her parents’ money keeps her afloat while she figures it out.

eventually, she transfers to langston, drawn in by their flexible program structures and the promise that she could design her own major. she’s now technically a senior… if you count eco-spiritual design as a real thing (she does).
