Murder-Set-Pieces...Not Great...

Ok starting off, I know this movie came out in 2004, I may have missed the boat on reviewing this but I’ve heard about it for years as one of the most controversial, disturbing films out there, and well...It was. Upon it’s release Murder-set-Pieces was negatively recieved and I can see why. I found it deeply upsetting (not just by its gratuitous, gory as all hell, content; but also the way in which its all delivered in the film.)
Long story short I thought it was terrible. I really hated it, which makes me nervous about the other films on this list. Its just...incredibly shallow...so shallow in fact that I can describe the plot in one sentence. In this Film we follow a German serial killer who brutalizes sex workers and other women alike in some of the bloodiest kills ever filmed. That’s it. The End
Except not...because I need to explain why I hated this film so badly. And as is my style I will point out the few things that I did enjoy. Let’s go through the minor things first.
The Acting is godawful, like, soft-core Cinemax bad. At this point its a trope in so many of these fringe type horror movies, Certain movies make it fun, like the Hatchet or Laid to Rest series. Almost every single actor in the movie just sucks, except for the horror icons that for some reason decided to cameo in this movie. Thats right we got us some horror icons! Tony Todd, The Candyman, and Gunnar Hansen, the original Leatherface, have short, disappointing cameos. Apparently they needed the paycheck.
The Score:
I actually really liked it, but it doesn’t belong in this movie, it just seems ripped straight out of an 80s B movie. It doesn’t fit with the hyper violent, super serious tone that this film tries to present. There’s also a scene in a strip club where VERY outdated nu metal plays for far too long, but I feel like that may be the one of the only realistic parts of this movie.
The last point I’m going to make about Murder-Set-Pieces is interesting, One of the movies strongest points is also its greatest weakness: the gore and murders. This movie clearly spent its entire budget on this aspect. The film features some of the most graphic/blood soaked kills I think I’ve ever seen. I’m not squeamish, but I’m also not gorehound like my wife, I actually found myself wincing and turning away a couple times. The effort put into the scenes where our Nazi loving, psycho killer, main character is torturing and brutalizing women, was CLEARLY not put into the rest of the movie.
I get it, people love this shit, some people only go to horror movies for the blood and guts and if its done right, I can get into it too. To me, however, It seems as though the director just wanted to film scenes of beautiful women being raped, tortured and violently killed and just decided to put a movie around it to not be institutionalized. Having said that, the special effects are impressive, The most impressive aspect of the film in my opinion.
Oh and the camera work was fairly cheap looking , I’m not gonna judge too harshly, its a cheaply made mid 2000s horror film so that’s pretty common,
That’s all I have to say about this one, I didn’t enjoy it but, I’m sure there are those out there who loved it. In fact according to Wikipedia one reviewer called it “incredibly good” On the back of the box there is a four star review. So who knows, maybe you’ll be one of the twisted individuals who love it. I, however, give it a D-.
My next review Isn’t gonna be a horror movie or even THAT much of a review but more a discussion on the incredible Four Part docu series “The Golden State Killer: It’s not over” done by Investigation Discovery. This is a truly terrifying case that is still unsolved to this day. Enjoy yourselves, until next time.

Update!!!
I don't have a ton of followers on here but here's some news nonetheless. Not only do I have a pretty big stack of disturbing horror movies to watch but some docs as well, all of which I will be reviewing. On top of that my first episode of Degrees of Evil should be airing somewhere soon. Degrees of Evil is a podcast about some of the real monsters that walk among us, every episode will feature me and a rotating group of guests who happen to be my close friends. The POS bastard we'll be talking about for episode 1 will be Robert Owens, a monster who murdered a Food Network star and her husband and is also linked to the disappearance of Zebb Quinn, a young man who disappeared in 2000. I've been a bit flakey with these projects in the past due to some personal issues BUT no more!!! Can't wait to deliver some actual content, stick with me. Great things are coming!

A surprisingly decent meditation on Satan, despite mixing Icelandic magic, Voudon, and Goetia for the image. This is, to me, exactly how Satan feels. Alien, spectral, dark, ancient, ambient, yet hauntingly beautiful. The hums make it feel as if He is permeating everything, as we know Him to. There’s a touch of tribalism to keep in touch with the natural side of Him, and yet enough focus on the somewhat aloof magickal aspect. I recommend at least trying it out. Sit and clear your mind, just feel the music flow through you. Maybe visualize a sphere of shadow or black hole above your head, or a black or purple aura smoking off of your body.

My Favorite Horror Youtubers
I did something a little different today. Instead of reviewing a scary movie, I decided to make a list. Here are my personal favorite horror -themed YouTubers, for those who are interested. I'll leave a video link for each of their channels. Be sure and leave a like on their page, these guys work hard.
Mr. Nightmare: Mr. Nightmare was my introduction to horror narrators on youtube. Not only does he narrate purportedly true stories he also does creepy countdowns and who doesn't love a good countdown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6b_KzjgkmE&list=PL40q7Mkbu6O34hkN9vxkXsJIu1YgVvYyc
Lazy Masquerade: Lazy was my favorite of these true story guys for a while, like many on this list he is a horror narrator, choosing many stories from Reddit's letsnotmeet page Lazy also frequently covers supernatural stories, which to me aren't as easy to believe, but scary nonetheless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2FRtEp-M1Y
Be.Busta: Be.Busta is an Australian narrator who is very similar to Lazy Masquerade as far as content goes. He covers both "real" and supernatural stories.Be.Busta will also narrate series from Nosleep, which I really enjoy. For awhile he was doing something called 8 disturbing moments caught on film, but he I'm fairly certain he stopped. They are still on his channel but not for the faint of heart, they don't get as bad as some of the others on this list, though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6E3so_ASVoo&list=PLwx5BoIerkl1b32Ik2U-CIjSZzkGisTCQ
Cayleigh Elise: I really like this girl, she has pretty much everything covered. She has a ton of different shows that cover a myriad of different topics ranging from giving detailed descriptions of various mythological beasts, reading true subscriber stories, as well as an unsolved mystery type show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJMHY8PC8Ok
Sir Ayme: Sir Ayme mainly covers fictional stories on his channel but puts a lot of personality and humor into otherwise morbid and frightening stories. I personally love his Nosleep playlist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr7gwrigrbM&list=PLqg6uB9se_yVPjnHHziwsQfw-hjNCgfbx&index=6
CreepsMcPasta: Creeps is one of the most popular horror YouTubers and for good reason. He is very articulate and has an emotive voice. He covers many of the classic creepypastas, such as Jeff the Killer's origin, Slenderman stories, smile.exe and several others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2maSlsofOI
These last four do not shy away very disturbing content, more so than the others. They don't hold back on any content at all. So, if you upset easily I can't recommend visiting these youtube channels. I, however, have no soul and really enjoy their content, and I get the feeling a couple of you do too.
Dr. Creepin: Similar to CreepsMcpasta in that he reads fictional horror stories mainly, though he does have some "true" stories as well. He's under the warning above because he will narrate the gorier, more gruesome stories that Reddit has to offer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_fiZherl_g
Corpse Husband: Similar to Lazy Masquerade in content though he doesn't shy away from the more shocking fare. For example, the true EMT and police stories have a few upsetting tales amongst them. Like, Lazy Masquerade, Corpse Husband has a couple True Supernatural Story lists too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LukZWYdlzPw
WARNING...Seriously....these last two can be pretty f'd
Rob Dyke: Rob Dyke hosts a show called seriously strange in which he goes over four or five related topics (5 disturbing Tinder dates or 5 disturbing Craigslist encounters) Rob goes into the gory details about these true stories, every one of his episodes has graphic illustrations detailing these events. Rob has three other shows related to the morbid and the macabre that are all similarly narrated and illustrated: Twisted Tens, Anatomy of Murder and Caught on camera. These videos are all made with care and attention, so despite the subject matter, you'll find yourself drawn in by his hard work. Rob also has a comedy show called why would you put that on the internet...if you have thin skin, or offend easily, probably avoid these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uesHXnX34s
Gloomy House: This is a video clip show unlike any other and gloomy can go to some pretty dark place While, not gory due to the censor bar, Gloomy House shoes some disturbing and mostly real videos while explaining the events transpiring within. He also has videos like "Haunted Dolls caught on camera" that will show short clips in succession to one another while Gloomyhouse talks about the subject of the video over them. There is something truly authentic and genuinely terrifying about his videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caKfkoyGf8I
(honorable mentions: Reignbot Horror, UrMaker, Letsread!)
I would like to narrate true horror stories but a lot of these guys have picked the letsnotmeet subreddit clean, so in the interest of keeping my content original, I'd like to do subscriber stories. If you have any please, please, send them to me via messenger, if you wish to stay anonymous tell me, but if you'd like to be mentioned let me know as well! I hope you enjoy this...I know it's a little different than a movie review but I hope you guys enjoy these channels!

The Invitation (2015)
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. It wasn’t scary not in a typical horror movie kind of way, but im glad to have watched it.
The premise to The Invitation is basic. A man, Will (Logan Marshall-Green) and his current girlfriend, Kira, were invited, along with all of their friends to a dinner party hosted by Will’s ex wife, Eden (Tammy Blanchard) and her boyfriend Daario Naharis...sorry...David played by Michiel Huisman. (I’m convinced that Game of Thrones actors are in all of the recent horror movies. Kill list had one, Ben Crompton had a small role of a guitar-strumming christian, but it counts.)
Throughout the movie we are slowly shown through dialogue and flashbacks what caused the relationship to fail and a traumatic event like what happened to them could destroy any relationship, the death of their child. This isn’t a spoiler, as it’s revealed very early on in the movie.
Will is suspicious of David and his friends Sadie and Pruitt (John Carroll Lynch) and who wouldn’t be, the dude plays a bad guy in everything he’s in...except for the walking dead. Sadie, Pruitt, David and Eden are all behaving very strangely but none of Will’s friends seem to pick up on it.
This movie is slow, and suffers from some poor acting from some of David’s friends, particularly the Ben character as well as Miguel and Tommy...and honestly David (or Daario) wasn’t great either. However, the character of Will is masterfully acted, it really made this movie enjoyable. The whole time I watched the Invitation I found myself unable to tell whether or not David and his pals were really acting weird or if it was just the grieving mind of a devastated father, that is...until the big reveal.
This movie had a stellar soundtrack, beautiful shots and a fantastic ending. If you’re coming into this movie expecting something bloody or gruesome, look again. My midnight meat train review should be coming soon and based on the title it will deliver on that.
It’s a stretch to call this a horror movie. It’s more of a dramatic thriller with honestly, very few horror elements, aside from a couple deaths. This is a movie about how people deal with the loss of a child and what path it can take them down.
The ending of this movie took my breath away, I mean it, it may be the only horror element in this whole thing and God it just works so well. I really can’t say much more. I’ve gotta give this movie a B+ the only reason it isn’t getting an A is because of some crappy acting, in an otherwise great thriller.
Thanks for reading! My review for midnight meat train should be coming soon and expect my video discussing the spoilers in kill list should be ready by this weekend...I think? Have a great one.
