I’ve launched my YouTube channel on Hideki Saijo, the superstar vocalist of Japanese pop music of the 1970s and 1980s, and other musicians from that period.
I’ve been addicted to this video of Hideki Saijo performance from 1974 since last night.
Please have a look. It’s really great. His voice, song, and performance are all too perfect. Extremely sexy and perhaps his very best performance in his entire career. He was still 19 at that time. He passed away at 63 in 2018.
I’m not sure if I’ve already introduced my new website sections, in which I have corrected mistranslations and overly rough translations found in the official English editions of Saezuru, Volume 1 to 6.
Here’s the link to the top page.
Enjoy the difference of my “as faithful as possible to the original unique and beautiful expressions by the author “!
I have just released on my website my case studies on ‘How Saezuru, or Twittering Birds Never Fly, has been misinterpreted, mistranslated, and overly roughly translated, with my newly-made alternative translation proposals.
Visit my website and read my 3 essays on and around Saezuru :-)!
Especially, check Chapter 1 & 2, because they present my new alternative translations for Sarzuru quotes, which aimed to be as faithful as possible to the original unique and beautiful expressions by the author.
Chapter 1 is about Saezuru and BL at large whereas Chapter 2 is a detailed case study with many many new translations on the story “Though They Drift, They Don’t Sink, Nor Do They Sing.”
Please send me your thoughts and feedbacks via Comments and Inquiries page.
I’m reposting this very important monologue too, as I just have read the official English translation, and noticed it is so overly and roughly mistranslated. Appalled.

I’m reposting my version of the translations for Yashiro’s poignant introspective monologue from the first Chapter of Volume 7:
Tampopo
::::::::::
My favourite monologue by Yashiro from Chapter 36:
Yashiro
“My right eye,
Hirata took it away.
I thought that’s how it happened.
I didn’t care if he took the left eye away too if needed.
What I gave up on at that time
still remains here.”
::::
“Here” in the last sentence implies Yashiro’s left eye. In the next cut he covers his right eye with his hand, he sees only with his left eye, just like the way he looked at Doumeki in the corridor at the end of Volume 6.
Also, “what I gave up on at that time” suggests Doumeki. Yashiro seems recalling that he gave up on him 4 years ago.
I repost this translation of mine again, as this important conversation has been often misinterpreted and overly roughly mistranslated.

Here’s my version of translations for a conversation scene between Yashiro and Kamiya in Chapter 44, Part 1.
As usual, I tried my best to be as faithful as possible in my own way.
I share this with you, only wishing it’ll be useful for you to enrich your personal understandings of the work, Saezuru.
Please do not pass this post nor its contents around.
Thanks.

Kamiya
“Are you…gay?”
Yashiro
“Even if I were, so what?”
Kamiya
“That guy, is he also gay?!”
Yashiro
“I’m telling you again, so?
Even if he were, what’s the matter?”
Kamiya
“It’s a fucking big problem!!
In the world of Gokudo [a synonym of Yakuza, with a touch of more old-fashioned, or serious, and a classical / authentic nuance], where only men are around, falling in love and getting head over heels with other men?!
Yashiro
“Yakuza always do things like falling for each other, loving and hating.
Nothing is different.”
Kamiya
“......!
......!
Surely.…
…Like hell it is!
We never do sexual acts! Normally!!”
Yashiro
“You’ve noticed that. Well done.
Mind your finger shape.
And the way your talk, too.”
Yashiro
“Where did you start listening?”
Kamiya
“About when your smartphone rang.…”
Yashiro
“So, I see you’ve heard almost everything.”
Kamiya
“I don’t know what happened between you two, but you’re his ex-boss, right?
How can you possibly stay so cool (/ calm), though he was behaving like that to you?”
Yashiro
“He must be holding grudges against me.
It’s a pinprick. Just harassing me.”
Kamiya
“Is he a type of guy who harasses people?”
Yashiro
“He must have changed, right?
After all, no matter what, I abandoned (/ got rid of) him even by shooting holes through his body.”
Kamiya
“The scars on his legs…
it was you who made them.”
Yashiro
“Well, to be fair, he shot me in my back hole instead!”
Kamiya
“You’re too outspoken, with no filter at all.
Now I see why he doesn’t get seduced by women although chicks dig him so much.”
Yashiro
“Heh…, liking such a man? I guess there’re some old-fashioned women still around (in the world).
Kamiya
“Those ideas of the genderlessness these days, aren’t they just sterile and worthless for women of nights? They’re selling their womanliness, after all.
Because they’re living on instinct, they like strong men, basically.”
