"ugh" you grunt checking another place off the list.

Absolutely no where would take you. They either "weren't looking for anyone", never reached out after you turned in your application or they turned you down once they found out why you got fired

"Maki literally where else could i work" You sigh leaning back and resting your head against the back of the couch.

"Have you tried diane's?" she asks from the kitchen

you type the name into google as you ask “what’s that?”

"It's this really old diner across from CVS, only really old people go there i think. Really old people and my cousin atleast"

you see the place come up in your screen, no website just photos. A cute little diner with the red, it shows a menu with the basics on it, it has good reviews and it's been around for almost 70 years.

"aww this place looks cute" you beam "I'll call and see"

You march into your room and call the number google gave you, After about two rings a middle aged women answer the phone

"Hi is this diane's??" you ask

"Yes" she lets out an annoyed sigh "if you want something you have to order it here, we don’t online orders"

"I was actually wondering if there's any positions open?" You bite your lip as you ask

"Yeah there's a ton, which one do you want"

"Umm would i be able to apply to be a waitress"

"sure come in friday at 2 Just ask the first person you see that your here to see utahime"

"is there an application i should pick up before then?" This had been the best one so far, but it almost scared you how simple it was

"nope just come in, unless you’re a serial killer you'll probably get the job" she mutters into the phone

"oh ok thank you" you say

"no problem" she quickly hangs up the phone

the first thing that crosses you mind after the call is it's sketchy as hell

would they really hire anyone? is there no background check? did they need help that bad? there's so many open positions but from the way she worded it not a lot of people work there, or try to apply?

You breathe out as sketchy as it seems it's still a job and you'll take what you can get. For maki!!

"you're fired"

"what?"

"you’re fired" The words hit you like a slap across the face. Your tired limbs sit uncomfortably on the hard chair in your managers cramped,dim and somewhat musty smelling office.

damn.

"But he was being a dick" you rant This job is one of the only things you have. You're absolutely fucked if you get fired right before you have to pay your rent.

"It doesn't matter! You had no right to but into the costumers conversation like that" Your manager says.

“He was being a dick” you retort

“He’s the paying costumer, you just lost us business” You glare at him that's something Mr.Krabs would say to spongebob and no it does matter because that guy was an asshole.

Of course you weren't a perfect waitress. But you showed up, and showed up sober. Which most people you worked with didn't do. Getting a job at a nice restaurant in the city was a good thing, good pay, lots of tip money. The bad thing was most people were stuck up assholes who also thought they could do no wrong. And after almost 2 years with the restaurant there's only so much "arguing" they could take from you. And it wasn't arguing if you told a guy to stop talking and let his wife order what she's wants.

Your managers voice snaps you back the cruel reality of the world. "you can leave now."

And so you do. Walking home with your head hung Low.

Now to tell maki.

"hey i'm home" you yell there's no point to but you do anyway

"already? i thought you had to work til 8" she says grabbing a chip out of the bag that sat on the tiny table infront of your couch

"about that. I got fired" you say as she starts to choke on her chips.

"how??"

"some guy being a dick to his wife, i told him to let her talk and he did not like that" you sigh as you take your shoes off and place everything down on your small kitchen counter.

Something bad about the city was rent. Not only was being a collage student a lot of money. But being able to live was to. Grocery, transportation, rent, subscriptions added up quickly. So you and one of your best friends maki thought you'd be saving money moving in together. But the only apartment the two of you could afford without having to go hungry was tiny, run down, and strange.

The kitchen and living room were cramped together along side a small balcony that neither of you could step on. There was water damage on the ceiling, the heat only worked so often, the walls were thin and there was no storage at all. As much as both of you tried to make it work, keep it clean and pretty, it always looked like a mess.

"so where are you going to work now" she asks as she stands closing the bag

"No clue" you say as you head towards your room "i'll probably just get another job as a waitress, i just don't know where" you sigh as you look at your self in the mirror. You looked exhausted. As much as you wanted to take a break from work for a week you couldn't afford to waste time. "i'll look tomorrow"

"If you say so" Maki says peaking her head in the doorway "you look like shit by the way"

"thanks maki" you say as you glare at her

"just letting you know. Get some rest" she smiles and waves you off

you walk into your room, and glance at the time thanking god you didn't have any classes tomorrow. You out on some music as you lightly pick up your room writing a to do list in your phone.

Sweet nothing

It's almost midnight, and instead of sleeping, you're watching whatever is on TV with your boyfriend Megumi. You're cuddled into his side your hand in his. There's nothing you love more than this, the domestic feeling he gives you. You lean in closer, and his pine scent invades your senses. He smells like home. He smells like the luxury of finding him reading on your bed after a long day of exorcising curses. He smells like the smile he flashes you when the two of you are driving. When his presence inches you towards sleep in the passenger seat. You move your tired eyes to the side and see him quietly asleep on your pillow. You feel that warm feeling in your stomach, knowing you get to call him yours. And that no matter what happens, if you misspeak, hurt someone, or choose the wrong option, you will always end up in his arms. You will always find yourself running home to his sweet nothings.
