don’t know who needs to hear this but AO3 comments section is not Letterboxd. giving unsolicited criticism to a fanfic writer does not make you a “fanfic critic” because there’s no. such. thing.

giving unsolicited criticism to a fanfic writer just makes you a spoiled, rude, entitled asshole at best, makes the author stop posting their works altogether at worst.

a reminder that it’s always okay to just stop reading and quietly click away from a fic if at any point you feel like you don’t like it for whatever reasons. unless specifically asked, there’s no need to tell the author, whose work you read for free, how you dislike something they wrote for themself for fun.

but he truly just enjoys reading romance in his free time. mortal cookies have such different concepts and feelings about love! he finds it interesting, thats all.

Sage is almost as insane as Shadow Milk, BUT that insanity doesn't manifest as him killing cookies or anything, he's just weirdly fucked up about the most specific things

He'd learn restoration magic just to gnaw at himself and then heal. And not even in a self-harm way. He thinks blueberry milk/yoghurt is a great flavor actually and he's super lucky to have a portable lunch

He'd stay awake for days on end, but not because he's punishing himself or is trying to find a way to get revenge on the Witches or anything. He's just REALLY invested in the effects lack of sleep has on cookies and he's pretty sure he just found a new spell to combat fatigue. He then gets so tired he forgets the spell completely and passes out somewhere in the corner of his room. Recluse has to drag him to bed and then scold him

I hc Sage as a complete and utter loser. Which is very funny because the mortal cookies think of him as this saintly god. He's not, but he's pretty good at pretending he is. Until there's a very hot blonde man in the neighborhood. Lord help him then

The way he speaks is very old-timey by cookies standards. It's not because he's so old, he's actually had plenty of time to acclimate to the changes in language. He just thinks speaking like that makes him sound REALLY cool. But then whenever he's speaking to Recluse - a cookie that shares his lexicon, he sometimes switches to the most bastardized versions of modern slang possible just to mess with him

as the sage of truth and truthless recluse see it, their opinions on truth and deceit will never be swayed, but whats the harm in a debate? the sage certainly doesn’t see any harm in them, he quite enjoys them. the recluse is the only cookie that can truly stump him and get him thinking deeper.

perhaps its because they have both lived for thousands of years, or because their opposing beliefs draw them unusually closer to one another, but every debate they have turns out differently. sometimes it ends in a petty spat, tea spilt over a coffee table and silly insults thrown at one another… but sometimes it ends in more confusion than enlightenment. confusion instead of frustration.

“i never understand you.” muttered truthless recluse as he set down his teacup. the sage glanced as over at him, his eyebrows raised in attention.

“whatever do you mean? i feel we understand each other quite well. any other cookie is, no offense to them�� a bore to have intellectual discourse with.” he smiled, kind eyes gazing into recluse’s

recluse shook his head, ignoring the fact the sage had just given him a rather flattering compliment. “no… i will never understand your insistence on inviting me over for tea when it only ends in bickering.” he reasoned. the sage crossed one leg over the other, a curious look on his face. recluse knew that face. it was one that sought understanding, one that was curious and bright-eyed.

“well, is it possible that i just enjoy your company? that i enjoy our debates?”

“our debates are the same every-time.”

“tsk! you don’t understand, recluse,” sage exclaimed. “the more we debate, the more discussions we have… we learn more about each other. that in itself, is a form of truth! us knowing one another for who we really are.”

recluse stared at the sage before looking back down at his tea cup with an unreadable expression on his face. the tea was no longer steaming warm. he didn’t say anything in return. on the rare occasion did he ever take the truth well. but this one…

perhaps he could tolerate this truth. of knowing the sage better than any other cookie did.
