Can we talk about how hakubo is constantly haunted by sumire's memory. The dude has so many regrets and it shows

Not just in the years after her death, the same night of her sacrifice he spared the children probably because of his attachment to sumire as a child

When he goes to explain to aoi that she will be the sacrifice he offers her a flower to calm her down and is visibly confused when she doesnt like them (because sumire used to love flowers)

(aoi covering herself and it looking like a wedding veil is a great way of showing how hakubo proyected his ideas of sumire into her)

When aoi starts acting obedient and saying stuff like "since im the sacrifice you shouldnt take your eyes away from me" he is freaked out because its incredibly similar to sumire

Even with kou, he sees he is just a kid and tries to spare him telling him to "go back home" and when he sees he wont give up even if he is at risk of dying he has this quick moment where he gets reminded of sumire and her "ideal being dying"

His whole boundary is a cry for her, covered in flowers, a haunting memory of that night.
