Rain Code: Spin The Wheel

So a while ago, I did a Spin the Wheel concept of my own with the Rain Code cast that appeared in the main game. And it turned out interesting, so I’ve decided to post my results, along with some ramblings about the said results. Spoilers for Rain Code.

!!Rambling Time!!

I’m happy one of the NDA is the protagonist, and it’s Fubuki! And her Shinigami is Kurumi, so it’s an adorable, wholesome girl squad! We can even get fun RPG references, and Kurumi can do wholesome games for clues. But also moral conflict because neither would be up for murdering, and Fubuki feeling guilty for relying on Kurumi to solve the mysteries in exchange of the culprits’ souls.

With how the criminals from Chapters 0-2 (basically three chapters), there would be a build up of the girls slowly accepting that perhaps culprits dying is fine as long as they no longer hurt people for their own benefits (yes, I am going to frame Chapter 2 less sympathetic as opposed to in-game, which makes it the turning point of the girls starting to accept that the end justifies the mean, before that is once again challenged in Chapter 3).

It’s funny how the three Aetheria Trio somehow still ended up being murderers at the end of the day (or two out of three if we count killer!Waruna being an imposter tho).

I was so sad when I spun the wheel for Chapter 0, and both Yuma and Yakou ended up in the cast, meaning they die😭 Also, Pucci and Zange could not escape their fates.

Though Yuma ending up as a Chapter 0 victim actually sets up a great characterization for Makoto in this AU (who I’ve decided will be the complex, Ch 4 character because I say so). Where in this Swap AU, Makoto and Yuma are twin brothers who worked as Master Detectives in the WDO. So when Yuma ended up dying on the Amaterasu Express, it broke Makoto. To the point he wears a mask to hide his face because he has the exact same face as his now late brother he can’t bear to see anymore. Perhaps he’s even antagonistic towards Fubuki because she survived the Amaterasu Express Massacre, and is resentful how she’s the one who gets out alive, like she’s been exchanged to live instead of his precious twin. Maybe Chapter 4, he decides to exact his revenge on the Peacekeepers for all the murder they have done, including Yuma, and end it once and for all. And considering he has Coalescence as well, perhaps he may even get the same power as Fubuki and end up literally clashing swords in the Mystery Labyrinth.

Funny story, when I was spinning for the swap!NDA, I was getting like all females with only Makoto as the only male, and I was kind of praying to the wheel to give me another male, or at least another gender. And guess who the last gender that ends up joining (or staying in this case) in the NDA.

Dr. Huesca being the informant actually sounds right when you think further on it. Like perhaps his characterization can be based on the glimpse heel-turn self we’ve seen from the recorded video, where he once again (or perhaps remembered) how far his experiment had went and decided to call it quit. He’s still a mad scientist, but now has a (very shaky) moral compass and is more morally grey.

Kurane being Chief is also very fitting because it was mentioned/implied she has some interest in detective works (I understand it’s probably more so playing as a Detective as a character, but I hc she has interest in detective work as well). But also kind of funny and sad because the NDA now has a prodigal child detective who is a theater kid and obsessed with romance novels as their only Detective Chief in Kanai Ward. And to add relationship between her and Vivia, perhaps Vivia took Kurane in as her apprentice when she was younger, which helped lead to her becoming a WDO Detective, and leading up to her becoming the Chief when Vivia dies during an investigation on Amaterasu. Or, if I want to be original, perhaps Vivia is separated from his soul and body, and they’re both being preserved in Amaterasu. Who knows🤷🏼‍♀️

And Yomi Hellsmile is honestly really fitting as Vice Director because he can be that sadistic, power-hungry we know and love. Desiring to become the next Director of the Peacekeepers and trying to off Director Margulaw. I even got an idea that perhaps maybe he teams up with a certain, grieving Master Detective to help overthrow Margulaw (because I kind of imagine the CEO would not be dumb enough to give someone like Yomi power like that). Not entirely sure if I want to make Margulaw a corrupt Director or a benevolent Director (or in-between) because I want to avoid making his characterization from being too close to my Director Yakou’s characterization I’m currently/planning.

Finally, for Chapter 3, I’m imagining how it can play out is that Swank Catsonell was once the leader of the Resistance, but he was terrible at it. He was selfish and greedy and was fine with causing more destruction that leads to more problems for Dohya District. Shachi, one of the Resistance leaders, was against Swank’s methods and was planning to overthrow him, alongside Dominic Fulltank and Yoshiko. However, after Swank nearly went too far on something (maybe having a hand in the NDA blowing up or something), Yoshiko decides to take action and kill Swank herself. After she dies, Shachi is the one who gives the request that leads to motivate him to become the new Resistance Leader.

So I’ve started thinking about this ask again recently, and I’m actually thinking of trying this AU out for myself now. A Familiar Reaper Yuma AU with queerplatonic!Makoyuma.

I thought of AU In which was kinda similar to your spooky AU;only difference is Yuma became a supernatural, ghost and Being Makoto’s familiar in a series of slice of life or just one shots

Yuma remains a ghost or he grows over time and becomes a reaper( I like the 2nd choice better)

As a familiar he protects Makoto while helping him solve situations also following Makoto’s order

And no I’m not writing this, I’m no writer but I am a thinker

Ooh, interesting. Though I am not sure if I will write this AU myself either. It’s an interesting idea, though, and I might take some inspirations/elements off of it for my AU.

Oh wait, brainstorm! I have an idea I might try out where Yuma does get some reaper-powers as a Homunculus due to Shinigami’s power lingering, becoming a fellow protector of the Homunculus alongside Makoto.

My Rain Code Swap AU

So I’ve been seeing many Rain Code swap AUs all throughout Tumblr, and after a recent one gave me some inspirations, I came up with my own Swap AU. Basically what if the Nocturnal Detective Agency and the Peacekeepers swapped roles, but the NDA characters are still the good guys and the Peacekeeper characters are still the bad guys?

Some ramblings below because this AU has a lot of explanations and canon divergence. Also game spoilers ahead!

Desuhiko, Halara, Vivia, and Fubuki are all from Kanai Ward, meaning yes, they are all Homunculi this time, while the Swap!Detectives (except Yomi) are human with Fortes of their own and a cyborg in the mix

Yakou will be the cowardly yet kind-hearted Director of the Peacekeepers (though still not the best leader at times as usual), Vivia is the Vice Director of the Peacekeeper and Yakou’s boyfriend, and Desuhiko, Halara, and Fubuki are the Section Chiefs of the Investigation Team and in Yakou’s close circle (of friends)

The Swap!NDA still have powers, but they are less powerful and more so like how they were before they trained them into Foresnsic Fortes (Yakou is still the same as usual). Halara has the power to see brief flashbacks when they touch objects and people, but it leaves them strained so they only rarely use it. Desuhiko can still transform into another person, but only with himself. Fubuki can sense time precisely and even sense when time is manipulated. And Vivia can sense, see, and hear ghosts all around him, but cannot transform into a ghost.

The characters’ personalities still stay the same, so this time the Swap!Detective Agency are the enemies as corrupt Detectives while the Swap!Peacekeepers are actually a fair police force trying their best to help the citizens of Kanai Ward

Yuma and Makoto are still the same where Yuma is the amnesiac detective-in-training and Makoto is the CEO of Amaterasu respectively

Yomi is the manipulative, charismatic detective chief that worked to make the Peacekeepers look unreliable and corrupt from spreading rumors to manipulating crimes and investigations to even bribing some Peacekeeper officers to abuse their powers and give him a hand

Yomi is still aware of Project Homunculus, having been working with Dr. Huesca in the shadows as a shadow benefactor. Director Yakou was never aware of the project going on at all, even when it’s shut down (he has heard rumors of the inhumane project though)

💜👩‍🔬Yakou’s Wife Headcanons👩‍🔬💜

She is an upper middle-class citizen

Her full name (in my fics) is Ayame Hoshi

She likes to do gardening in her apartment and will always want a balcony of sorts to have her plants outside

She secretly loves to read romance novels (but only if they are written well and end in healthy relationships)

She loves to listen to music when she works

She’s a workaholic and sometimes end up sick

She once lived in Kamasaki District before moving to an apartment building in Ginma District

She used to work at a clinic part-time and still is in contact with the president of the clinic

She is very skilled in tending wounds and even keeps a medical kit on her

She’s good as a practical caretaker (getting the necessary supplies and how to heal someone) but isn’t the best in the emotional area as a caretaker

They are a vegan

They are secretly an animal lover

They are an only child with a mom and a dad

Their parents are divorced

Their dad got into gambling after the financial fall, which was how Halara got into gambling and get the skills

They like to go to museums in their spare times, especially art museums

They are a confirmed Libra

Part of the reason they are asking for a lot of money is also because they want to pay back their parents as reparations for causing their financial issues, and since they are divorced, they have to get separate payment for them

One of the reasons why they don’t like to touch people is because of how they would get flashbacks from touching people when they were younger, and now fear touching people would trigger those flashbacks like when they were younger, even though they trained their Forte to not trigger like that again

They secretly have a major sweet tooth

They love to have milk in their coffees every. Single. Time.

They are on the Autism Spectrum

If they ever have spare time, they will go to an animal shelter to volunteer or donate sometimes

They love to take walks outside, whether in nature or cities

Their favorite novels to read are detective novels to practice detective skills off duty, or anything that has cats as a main focus

They used to smoke once (and still does occasionally when they are extremely overwhelmed, overstimulated, or stressed) but now use candy cigarettes so they can keep their body in tip top shape

Their aesthetic is minimalism (their personal favorite being matcha—which means simple households, daily rituals, and simplicity)

When they were younger, they used to love photography. Now they only do photography for detective work (or taking pictures of cats)

OK, so I realized for Dual-Sword AU that we've been talking about it as a whole right? But what about smaller tidbits? Like how the heck did the twins end up in Kanai Ward in the first place! I assume through the train but with two amnesiacs on the loose I doubt the both of them would drink the coffee!! One of them must have but for the other to as well? Unlikely... Makoto might be skeptical of the beverages there so he might be the conscious twin in the situation but but but but he might night might might stop Yuma? I don't know. I'm not sure if we explored their dynamic in this AU yet! It's been what? 2 weeks? My head hasn't been refreshed on the AU yet!!

I answer this in another ask I just answered after I’m finally answering this. But I’m definitely going to explain the characters’ dynamics and more specific of their interactions, since I’m fine spoiling that. Specifically their dynamic in Chapter 0.

Yuma and Makoto are actually suspicious of each other in the beginning. After all, how did the both of them just get amnesia at the same time? Though they both have the same letters and Yuma would note Makoto is genuine about his answers and would believe Makoto is in the same boat as him, making him cling onto Makoto. But Makoto, he feels suspicious about all of this. Especially with Yuma. And that suspicions increase when the detectives propose there is an imposter amongst them. Meaning even one of them could be faking in being a twin, or having amnesia, or even may be a brother turned traitor.

So when Melami offers a drink to Yuma, Makoto knew the drinks would possibly be drugged and was actually going to be fine with Yuma taking them. After all, it’ll incapacitate him if he is an imposter. But then he’ll realize that if Yuma really was faking everything, he would know the drinks were tainted and not want to take them at all. So he stops Yuma, though after he took just a bit that makes Yuma end up sluggish, and tell the detectives his suspicions.

That small action will affect the twins’ relationship later on in the Chapter 0 arc… (love tasty family angst)

Dual-Sword AU

Will the amatarasu express happen differently I feel like Makoto would be suspicious of anything given to them my amatarasu. So he and Yuma might not drink anything

Yes, because an AU like this has tons of canon divergence, which I love. In this case, yes, you’re right that Makoto would be extremely wary of the coffees and Amaterasu. He would more or less have an uneasy feeling when he hears about Amaterasu, though not knowing why since he doesn’t remember his history with Amaterasu, and his suspicions get confirmed when Aphex explains Amaterasu is supposedly a corruption organization. So when Melami tried to offer Yuma a drink when he started getting overwhelmed, Makoto immediately stops her because if this Express was provided by Amaterasu, wouldn’t that likely mean they tampered with the drinks while at it? After all, Amaterasu helped to set up the trains to bring in the detectives to Kanai Ward, so who’s to say they didn’t tamper anything while they were setting things up? And they don’t want the UG or the WDO involved, right? Which leads to the Master Detectives to become suspicious and not drink, or at least be wary.

Much to the hitman’s irritation, unfortunately for him. So he had to…adapt his planning… Separate everyone so he can take them out one by one. And then bring in the potential suspects, both to save his face and bring in a potential suspect that is the Perfect Homunculus. Though this time, things may have to get a little…bloody…

Kurumi’s mom. She is a news reporter who works for the Kanai News Station in Marunomon District. A kind-hearted yet ambitious woman who loves her family and pursuing the truth. But ever since Amaterasu took over and the city went into isolation, the news station became corrupt with withholding the truth, much to Emi’s disdain. Unfortunately, in order to keep her family safe and not lose money, she is forced to be silent and turn the other way with the corruption.

She is a warm-hearted woman who treats everyone with kindness and patience, but can be strict and overprotective in order to keep people safe.

So I have learned today that Makoto’s WDO uniform during the final battle was actually black (and looks to be the exact same as Yuma’s but recolored unfortunately).

So some update designs will include Makoto’s uniform being black instead of the navy blue, and he will still keep his trousers, but are like a certain material that allows him to be flexible like Yuma.

Physical Descriptions to describe Makoto Kagutsuchi in Dual Swords AU:

has a bit more healthier hair, but still very much messy

Wears a long rain cloak much like the one in-game in the Mystery Labyrinth

When he gets the face mask, he puts it on the top side of his head when not wearing it on his face

So I realized something that I’ve decided to use to Yomify Kanai Ward in my Dual Swords AU. And an edit to go with the analysis I made.

From what we can see in the first picture above, the major color of the lights radiating off of Amaterasu HQ, especially the sign, is purple-pink, which matches the color of one of Makoto’s main color scheme. Which symbolizes Makoto in charge of Amaterasu.

So with Yomi now as CEO of Amaterasu, he would no doubt change the lights into red to fit his color scheme and show how he is the one in power of Amaterasu, and bathe all of Kanai Ward in his light.
