As a 2nd year MBBS student myself , this entire incident left me speechless .
I am horrified and unable to explain the plethora of feelings I am experiencing .
And the fact that this is something I am fearing for my and other female healthcare workers future , makes me want to scream. Because I know that with how shoddy our law is , monsters like him will walk freely among us .
She has not just been raped and murdered, she was very much tortured and brutalized like Nirbhaya. It is all over the Bengali news. I don't understand why no one is talking about this.
A 2nd year Respiratory Medicine in a well known government medical college in Kolkata, West Bengal, India is found in a semi-naked state and the college/ hospital called it a suicide.
I'm a MBBS student in second year. After reading about her, what crossed my mind is the amount of times she would have felt this fear, before this worst fear of hers eventually materialized.
"A young resident doctor was found dead in the seminar room of her medical college in Kolkata. Initial autopsy report suggests possible rape and murder."
As all are saying,
She wasn't walking the street at odd hours. She wasn't wearing clothes that were provocative. She wasn't loitering in dangerous neighbourhoods.
She was a resident doctor, looking for a place to rest in her own hospital.
She had been on duty and had gone to rest in the early hours of Friday.
The one place which was supposed to guarantee her safety failed her, miserably.
Someone comes, rapes a female pg who is merely resting in a seminar hall because there is no proper place for her to rest, brutalized her and kills her. How did NO one know? The college and police initially call it a suicide. Excuse me? It is also being said that under pressure from local politicians, the Principal and Dean attempted to alter the post-mortem report. Autopsy confirms sexual assault.
Tumblr media
What are the actions taken? One man arrested because his behavior seemed "shady". This is clearly not an act of one man. And this was a very well aware of and a well executed criminal act.
Tumblr media
Also, all this happening in WB right when the situation of bangladesh is in turmoil and news of Bangladeshi Hindus being killed and tortured, seems wrong, VERY WRONG. Happening right before NEET-PG, as 24 lakh doctors prepare to write an exam on Sunday to be resident doctors, this news has wrapped us all in agony and rage,
What are they working so hard for? Why should they aspire to be in a system that ignores their basic needs? The minimum requirement of a workplace is safety. That should be non-negotiable.
This profession demands extereme hardwork, a lot of mental strength and Physical Assaults, harassment, low paying jobs with odd working hours with intense humiliation. Now its the worst of all seeing a bright mind losing her life in the most disrespectful state of all. This should never happen to any woman.
I'd also like to question why isn't any big media house covering this news, where are all the international news channels all this time.
What are the students in other medical colleges doing? This talks about their own safety and lives. What are the medical students across the world doing? It's time for us to stand for the most basic Human right, safety.
Yesterday when my roommate, an MBBS final year intern was heading for her night posting, I feared and prayed for her to come back safely. Thinking about it, in a few years I will also have night posting, I'll also return from my hospital duties late at night. I'll also have to go through the same fear, and I'll also have to keep praying that my worst fears don't turn into reality. So many female doctors, nursing staffs, other Healthcare workers, other working women, non-working women go through the same fear, probably multiple times a day.
It is a shame to be born in such a disgusting world and society, it is shame to witness such a brutal crime, and it is a shame to live in this fear daily.
Those RAPISTS need to be hunged infront of the whole natio...if needed burned alive. People should fear the idea of raping, more that getting raped.

Yukio Okumura is the character we needed in a shonen manga
Tumblr media
If there is one thing I will always applaud Kato for (I mean I applaud her for a lot of things but this one in particular is special) is Yukio Okumura's characterization and development
I can't tell you how much I love how his character arc is based mainly in deppression, insecurity and mental health and not that much about his own power and ambition (but this is important too ofc)
I never saw a shonen mangaka talk about the mental health of a protagonist in that way because they usually focus more on continuing the story and not that much about how the story and what's happening at the moment resonates into the characters mind
Tumblr media
But Kato is different, Kato uses and includes real life problems to develop their characters which is not something all mangakas do
Is not only a physical development, is not only them gaining control about their powers, is them gaining control about their own minds too which is so so important I can't even begin to explain it.
Kato not only breaks a lot of twins tropes with this storyline, she also breaks a lots of shonen protagonists tropes that most of the mangakas use to write their stories (which is not a bad thing tho)
She doesn't forget that her main characters are children that went through A LOT, and expresses that in character arcs that prioritize mental health and trauma
Because she knows that even if the situations are fictional, the problems and feelings her characters go through are not and she with this, is actually sending a beautiful and important message to her readers about life and love and how we are not alone and everything will be okay
Tumblr media
The way he treats Rin and the other people around him is so realistic for a person with depression and suicidal tendencies
And the fact that his ambitions, his goals were also based on insecurities about himself, how he envy Rin for everything, how he wanted to solve everything alone because his own insecurity didn't let him see that he has people around him that loves him with all their hearts and would go to hell and back for him
Yukio's character arc was never about him trying to have powers like his brother, it was never about him being powerful and be better than Rin, it was all about he realizing his own insecurities and trauma and open up with the people he loves and is just so powerful to me as a person who has a sibling with depression and feels so related with how Rin feels about the whole situation with his brother.
Tumblr media
So yeah, Yukio Okumura is such an important character not only for AoEx but for Shonen mangas in general, and it is also a great example and reference for future authors and artists who want to include these topics about mental health in action and adventure projects.
A lot of people may hate Yukio, or only dislike him because of how he treated Rin in past chapters but we can't deny this, he is indeed the best written character in the whole manga and the manga wouldn't be the same without him
Rin may be the heart, but Yukio is the SOUL of Ao no exorcist/Blue Exorcist and I just applaud Kato for introducing this character to us, because he is indeed, an incredible, powerful and complex character.

The Lonely Planet’s Guide to Feeling Things and Getting Railed (E, 5325 words)
I’m part of a lovely discord server and today we had a gift exchange of canon x canon characters! I drew @uchiharomance whose OTP is SasuSaku. It was super fun to challenge myself to try play with pairings I’ve never written before, though a bit scary because I want to do the characters and their relationship justice. Anyway, I hope you like this, Jess!
Title: The Lonely Planet’s Guide to Feeling Things and Getting Railed
(or: The roundabout way that Sasuke and Sakura ended up traveling together post-Shippuden).
Pairings: Sakura/Sasuke, Naruto/Hinata, past Saku/Ino, hint of sns
Rating: Explicit
Some Ao3 tags for the vibe: Sasuke being a doofus who doesn’t understand himself; Dom Haruno Sakura; Sub Uchiha Sasuke; smut and feelings; Humor; or more like “wry irony” bc Sasuke; Sakura and Sasuke have BBE (big bisexual energy)
Ao3 link: Here

The greatest gift Naruto ever gave Hinata was peace. He ended the endless shinobi wars, and unknowingly gave Hinata her freedom. Konoha was safe, her sister was safe. She had proven that she could be strong. Naruto, the person she most admired, had seen her courage. Her family, who had always disregarded her, had acknowledged her. She was a powerful shinobi, stronger than anyone who had known her had thought possible. And Hinata was done.
She was tired. Of violence. Of missions. Of hurting. Of killing. She abhorred it. For her village? Her family? Her team? She had endured it. For them. Because it was what needed to be done. She had pushed down her fear and swallowed her conscious. There was no place for either in war. But now the war was over.
When she had told her father she was retiring, he had scoffed. When she told her sister, Hanabi had argued. Hinata was finally a respected, elite shinobi. Why would she throw it all away just like that? Didn’t she know what she was giving up?
Hinata did know. And she was happy too. Because when she had told her team, they had smiled. Kiba told her he was proud of her. Shino said she deserved it. Kurenai smiled and kissed Hinata on the forehead. Of course, they said. We love you, they said.
So, Hinata became a house wife. She built a home for herself and her family. She was at peace. Her children would grow up someplace sunny and warm and full of love. That was her new dream. And to her, it was one just as worthy as any other.
Sometimes, she still dreams of blood. The sounds of bones cracking and screaming still reverberates loud enough in her head for her to wake up screaming. But, then she looks at her husbands lying beside her in their clean and warm bed. She goes and kisses her children’s heads. Then she folds some laundry. She is at peace.

In the days that followed I thought about grief; how nothing and nobody can prepare you for it. People tell you their stories but until you experience it for yourself you can’t possibly understand. There’s no going around it. Or under or over it. You’ve got to go through it. It will hit you in waves so enormous that you are smacked against the shore. It will permeate the very fabric of your life, so that everything you do is stained by it; every moment, good or bad, is steeped in sadness for a while. Even the nice moments, the achievements and successes, are tinged with the knowledge that someone or something is missing. And the first time that you smile or laugh, you catch yourself, because happiness feels so unfamiliar.

pallavi joshi is absolutely incredible, she played the perfect amalgamation of real indian educators and academic professionals, regarding their perspectives of the genocide in kashmir,,, she said "if you hated me in that film, then i'll consider this the best role of my entire life"
joshi's role was inspired off JNU proffesor nivedita menon. take a moment to view menon's lecture.
