This is the actual face Leggy and Navy got when we cut back to them. It’s not a mid-blink. It’s not a tween. This is their actual faces. This was an actual choice. They could’ve just made em look alert like Army but no. This is the deepest lore, give me all the theories.

…I’ve been thinking
Rose didn’t know Steven was going to be a boy. They made two tapes, one for Steven, and one for ‘Nora’ but… the tape for Steven was left in Lion’s mane, with everything else she wanted him to eventually find.
Greg said not even Garnet could predict anything, so…
who put the steven tape there & threw the nora one into Rose’s junk pile?

hey um. consider a stevens university au where the gems actually react realistically to steven bubbling bismuth:
pearl shrieks “you did WHAT?” and slaps a hand over her mouth, looking horrified
garnet clenches her fists and has to take a deep breath
she kneels down and holds steven’s shoulders and says “i know you were scared, and i’m sorry that we put you in that situation. sometimes we forget that you’re a child and there’s still so much we haven’t told you about the war. steven, bismuth wasn’t wrong to want to shatter the diamonds. the diamonds aren’t like you or me. what they’ve done… they deserve to be shattered. now, let’s unbubble bismuth, and then we can talk, okay?”
then they unbubble bismuth
she’s confused and angry; she didn’t think she’d come back so soon after the last time. there are tears in her eyes.
garnet and pearl wrap her in a hug as soon as she comes out
steven apologizes to her for poofing her and bismuth says “it’s okay, steven. i know now that you’re not rose quartz. my anger at her shouldn’t stop us from being friends.” steven holds out a hand to shake hers and she pulls him into a hug instead.
then they sit down on the floor and the gems tell steven about the war and about rose shattering pink diamond.
bismuth stays a member of the crystal gems and steven has the chance to learn more about his and his mother’s history!
(bonus: amethyst is feeling left out by all of this and when they sit down, she goes to sit on the couch instead, but bismuth grabs her hand and says “where are you going, girl? you’re a crystal gem too! come sit down next to me.”)

ok i know this is only tangentially related to this blog’s Purpose™ but i sat down and watched an ep of the new ben 10 recently when it came on air and
i...actually don’t think it’s that bad at all! the art style’s way nicer to look at in motion, and the stories still have that Ben 10 Feel™ to them, even if it does sort of feel denser and a little watered down now. i watched Growing Pains and i liked it, as well as a teeny tiny bit of Take 10, which i didn’t think was as good but still decent.
i do have a few complaints though, namely with the theme song, the character designs and the writing.
a lot of the character designs for Older Female Villains seem to share the same sorta feel between them which i think is a shame; nanny nightmare and queen bee look fairly similar in terms of the face. i especially don’t like the way they draw lips, it just doesn’t feel right at all. (i have the same complaint with rhythm heaven, though that’s not exactly relevant here.)
oh and there’s also the way they redesigned stinkfly which is just What The Fuck. what happened to my beautiful bug boy. (i think the blue/orange colors coulda worked fine for him tho, if they kept the same base design)
and then there’s the themesong, which is so clearly trying to sound like the original but compressed into one of those “only say the title and nothing else” themesongs that we’re getting so much of recently. like c’mon, why not just remix the original themesong instead of putting it into the hydraulic press? (then again the original theme’s such a gift to this world that maybe they SHOULDN’T touch it, just my onion tho)
the writing is, as i mentioned, decent, but it reeks of the “trying way too hard to be Millennial™” thing that cn’s been plagued with recently. i can ignore it for the most part, but it’s definitely a Thing That’s Bad with the show and i’d love it lots of they mellowed that aspect of the show down a little.
now i’ve only watched like 1 and 1/8 of the show’s eps so far so i don’t know if it has any Big Issues™ or not, so feel free to let me know if the show’s shittier than i’m percieving it!

wait, sorry, i think i'm missing something here- when exactly was it established that it was peridot specifically behind these experiments? i always interpreted it as her being the one who was assigned to check on them, not the one who actually created them. (again i'm probably missing something here so please do correct me if i'm wrong!)
Hey. remember that one time where Peridot experimented on fallen Crystal Gems and forced them to fuse together in a horrible and unethical fashion?
Why was Peridot easily forgiven for that, with no reference to what she did or how those gems where once Garnet and Pearl’s friends?!
Remember how horrified Garnet was?
Does she seem like the kind of person to just give Peridot a pass for that? Does she seem like she’d never mention it again? Does Crewniverse expect us to believe that Garnet, along with everyone, just forgot this happened?!
Guess they just really wanted that Peridot redemption arc, so much so that they had to forget the atrocities she committed so she could be sympathetic. Or Crewniverse just flat-out forgot what they themselves had written.

Do you watch Steven Universe? The show's been going really downhill lately.
Yes, I do—or did—but I haven’t seen any episodes after“Adventures in Light Distortion” due to the very drop in quality you mentioned.
Steven Universe goes overboard with what Avatar: The Last Airbender balanced so well: compassion for one’sadversaries.
The second season of Steven, from “Story for Steven” to “Log Date 7 15 2”, reminded me a lot of A:TLA.There was a palpable sense of a planet at stake, and an invasion force that wasbrutal but whose gems were people, just like humans. Peridot had a Zuko-esqueredemption arc and we had character development interlaced with action. Weexplored a lot of the complexities around the Homeworld gems and thestratification of their society. And it was all building up to the moment whenthe Crystal Gems would have to face the Cluster.
And then we get … “Gem Drill”.
Steven Universe set up a conflict—and then was too afraid todeliver on it. It’s as if one of the higher-ups on the show said, “Wait, we don’t want toteach kids to fight and destroy things. Let’s make the Cluster misunderstood!”There’s nothing wrong with this in theory, but the way it was executed deflatesall of the tension that built up to that moment. By basically hugging it outwith the Cluster, SU neutralized the sense of danger immediately, with no falling action, and withoutsatisfying all the expectations of a genuine showdown.
Look, guys, stories need conflict in order to succeed. That’swhat a story is. And by deflating thesense of antagonism and danger, the story of Steven Universe lost its way. There have been great standaloneepisodes since then, like “Mr. Greg”, but the plot itself lost its sense ofrisk and urgency. There’s no overarching structure to the story threads of Seasons 3 and 4.
Say what you will about how Aang defeated the Firelord: theFirelord was taken out in a manner commensurate with his status as a villain. We were promised an earth-shattering final battle, and we got one. We werepromised that Aang mastered all four elements despite huge obstacles, and hedid. And perhaps the most disappointing aspect of “Gem Drill” is that the Crystal Gems spent episode after episode bonding with each other and getting Peridot to work with them as a team … and then the whole team wasn’t even there so see the payoff of all their efforts.
