Our friend @abra_ca_dabra_ throwing her first shuttle passes and learning how to make the #smile pattern. The smile is woven to remind us that smiling and laughing is the source of all healing, a lot of the rituals and remedies that healers use are helping us to uplift our spirit so that our bodies can take over and heal itself. We now know though science that smiling and laughing releases a cocktail of beneficial hormones and chemicals for our body. The smile patter is obtained by throwing the shuttle in an alternate way, in this case, one yellow and one red; but mind you, there is a little trick for this to work and achieve a smooth edge. My mom #LeonorLazoGonzalez teaching how to wind bobbins to use in the #shuttle for a #weavingclass. The bobbin has to be wound evenly and tightly so that the #threads don't unravel as we are #weaving; having a perfectly wound spool is key to smooth weaving. This activity is one of the first things we learn to do at a young age, a lot of young boys will help their parents and uncles to wind up their bobbins. Helping out experienced weavers allow young kids to learn and pick up weaving tips and techniques from the #masterweavers. It is time to remember and value the ancient knowledge preserved by indigenous people around the world, and it is important not to exploit that knowledge without consent and without retribution.
