This event was created because while there are so many wonderful canon compliant fics and fan art in the Sambucky fandom, it seems to be lacking in AU’s, so I’m glad everyone was inspired enough to contribute their own ideas to this fanweek and we got such amazing works out of it. I loved this event!! I found out about it too late to actually join but I was happily reading through the works other people posted and man, there've been some good ones!! So happy this motivated people to write💖

I wanted to ask if it's okay to come to this event later on and like, fulfill all the requirements, just in my own time, some random week when I've got stuff ready?? And if yes then should I still tag it or is that only for the works that actually fit into the time frame?

Oooh, okay, so I'm planning on something pretty cool for the free space tomorrow for SamBucky AU Week. It's going to be this Futuristic, Post-Apocalyptic Western on another planet where Sam and Bucky are trick shooters, but are also secretly plant wranglers who transport moving plants that provide breathable air to towns that are being basically strangled by corrupt government officials and outlaws who gouge prices on something that should be free. I'm really excited about this one 😆

An Unexpected Addition

A fledgling, a vampire, and a werewolf walk into a party…

Joaquin retrieved an invitation from the inside pocket of his jacket. “I have an invitation,” he promised. He smoothed his thumb over a smear of blood that was days too dry to rub away.

The king grinned and gleaming teeth appeared, bright and sharp. “Good. I’d hate to have to escort the most interesting guest away so soon.” He stood then and took a step towards Joaquin. For a moment, Joaquin thought he’d walked right through the dog, but he realized it was only that the king’s shoes were the same dark color and he’d, in fact, only stepped over it.

The dog’s ears flicked in irritation while the king came up to Joaquin, but by the time they were more or less toe-to-toe, the dog had decided to follow after the king and wind around his legs. It was even larger like this. It came up to Joaquin’s midribs and it was long. Longer than Joaquin was tall and Joaquin wasn’t short. It made itself smaller in order to snake around the king’s body, but its nose was still catching up to its tail and its paws were a little less sure as it paced circles. It was, Joaquin realized, missing a front leg, not that that seemed to slow it down any.

The king reached out to hold Joaquin’s jaw. His fingers were even colder than Joaquin was expecting. Joaquin had gotten used to running cold, to other vampires being cold. But the king was freezing. He dragged Joaquin’s upper lip back with his thumb and examined Joaquin’s fangs.

“You’re young,” he said observationally. “It’s been a long time since my eyes have been that red.” His eyes were, actually, a dark maroon, like blood spilled over dirt. Earthy and almost natural. The most dangerous kind of different.

“About five years out from the change,” Joaquin said.

The king let out a soft sound and seemed about to say something, but in the span of the breath he drew, the dog was suddenly a man standing behind him, one arm wrapped around his waist and an equally amused look on his face. Where the king’s mirth hid a cool danger, the dog’s amusement and a warning lived side by side in his eyes.

“Oh, Sammy, I don’t think you were ever this cute,” the dogman—werewolf, this was the werewolf, it had always been the werewolf—said with a grin full of pointed teeth, which were retreating back into his gums.

we did it, folks! seven fics in seven days, and it’s been a whirlwind. hope y’all have had as much fun this week as i have <3

excerpt:

Sam wakes up with a pounding headache and a stranger in his bed.

Fuck, he thinks, reaching over to the nightstand in his hotel room and hoping to God his drunk self was smart enough to leave a pain reliever and a glass of water nearby last night.

He feels a few loose pills that he can make out as ibuprofen in the little bit of light streaming through the cracked curtain, but doesn’t find anything to wash them down with. His throat’s drier than sandpaper, but his head feels like it’s twice its normal size, so he forces the pills down dry, his body too sore and his balance still too off to try and attempt getting a glass of water right now.

Once the pills are down, he looks back over at his bed partner, still knocked out, mouth open in what looks like deep sleep. He’s attractive enough, with a strong jawline and his long dark hair pulled into a messy bun. He’s shirtless and seemingly nicely built, the sheets covering most of his body but exposing all of his shoulders, and he’s got a host of scarring on his left shoulder leading to a metal prosthetic.

Sam remembers finding the man—a fellow vet—the night before at the third bar he’d been at, both of them already most of the way to plastered by the time they’d met. He can’t quite remember his name, but he’d remembered it was a little odd. Binky? Bonky? Bunko?

Definitely not Bunko, he thinks, picturing the dice game the ladies at church would always play when he was a kid. Maybe Binky. That sounds right.

does Sam and Bucky being in an established relationship count enough as an AU for free choice day or do it need more?

If they’re in an established relationship during the events of CACW or TFATWS or something like that, then that would canon divergence, which would count as an AU. But if it’s post canon, then no, that would not count as an AU.

“We just have to get through one more fucking movie, Barnes. Can you keep your shit together until then?” Sam followed the words with a drink from his coffee, scanning the set to see if they were needed yet. Nope, still setting up the shot.  He looked back to Bucky, whose expression had morphed from usual scowl to seconds from murdering you scowl. Then something miraculous happened because that scowl melted into what could almost be called a smile as Bucky shook his head, looking away.  “My shit is perfectly in tact.” Bucky’s eyes landed on Sam, his tongue peeking out between his teeth as he just stared at him. Sam hated how he did that. That all-encompassing look, so singularly focused, often impossible to read. It was so fucking annoying. It was also why Bucky was so fucking good at what he did—able to convey so much in those eyes and on that face. And why their press circuit usually involved questions like There’s a lot of tension between your two characters, which has the fans wondering… what exactly is their future together?  Sam wasn’t going to miss the interviews, the two of them sitting next to each other and throwing insults back and forth that got turned into online listicles about their endearing friendship (or more!).  Because the truth was they hated each other. They’d hated each other since their first chemistry read. They’d hated each other throughout the entirety of the second film when on the first day Bucky had eaten the last everything bagel from craft services despite hearing Sam say it was all he was craving. They’d hated each other during stunt rehearsals and running lines and standing on set together between takes.  They hated each other. Period.  “You’re gonna miss me, Wilson,” Bucky said, that slow creeping smile that was more of a smirk, the way he delighted at seeing Sam get riled up. “Just admit it.”  “Barnes.” Sam reached out a hand and clapped Bucky’s shoulder, giving him his best you’re an idiot look. “Have you ever considered that you’re gonna be the one missing me?”  Bucky tilted his head, a mischievous amusement perking up on his face, and there was something so fucking genuine about the curve of his lips as he said, “Of course. I never said I wouldn’t.”  Then someone’s calling them onto set, and Bucky’s walking away like it’s nothing, like Sam’s not reeling in the wake of those words.  They hated each other: that was the one thing Sam knew with utmost certainty.  But now? Now he’s not so sure. 

📽 Bucky and Sam have been leading the popular Winter Falcon trilogy for years, and they’ve tolerated each other through it all… barely. They’re not friends. They’re coworkers at best, and begrudging ones at that. But now that the series is about to come to an end, something feels like it’s shifting. Sam’s not sure how he feels about it. Or, maybe, more aptly… he’s not sure why he likes how it’s shifting so goddamn much.

“Come on,” Bucky says. “You just said you loved trivia.”

“Yeah, in college,” Sam says shortly. “Not with two total strangers who I’m trying to dupe into a lie.”

“Sounds way more exciting than college trivia if you ask me,” Bucky says. Sam just gives him a flat look, and Bucky groans. “Okay fine, I’ll pay you.”

“What am I, your fake boyfriend or a male escort?”

“Both?” Bucky tries.
