SAME but DIFFERENT is an INTERVENTION! Here is some guidance ::
Same But Different is an intervention. We are not asking permission to use this public space, it is a guerrilla action - an improvised celebration of our freedom to gather.
This project occurs OUTDOORS RAIN OR SHINE. Please dress for the weather.
Actions will begin promptly at 6PM and last exactly one hour until 7PM. There will be no prompts or direction, it is a group improvisation.
PLEASE BRING materials to explore and share - but you must take them with you when you leave.
Maintain respect for the public space - do not create additional labor for others.
Never block any thoroughfare - sidewalk or street.
Same But Different is about harmony and community - please keep this in mind and act responsibly. Defibrillator Gallery is not responsible for injury, theft, damage, legal trouble, etc. - participate at your own risk and please use common sense.
There is no power supply at the location.
The closest restroom is McGuane Park Fieldhouse at 2901 S Poplar.
The event will be recorded with photography and video for the DFBRL8R Archive and shared with the international community on social media. You have been notified: your participation indicates your consent.

HISTORY ::
Mount Bridgeport | Palmisano Park
Tumblr media
Mount Bridgeport is a man-made hill located within Palmisano Park in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Originally, the site was home to the Stearns Quarry, which operated from 1836 to 1970. The quarry provided limestone used in the construction of many of Chicago’s early buildings and infrastructure projects.
Tumblr media
After quarrying ceased, the site was used as a landfill until the late 20th century. In the early 2000s, efforts began to transform the former quarry and landfill into a public green space. Palmisano Park officially opened in 2009. Mount Bridgeport was created from landfill and construction debris, capped and landscaped to form a centerpiece of the park.
Tumblr media
Rising approximately 33 feet above street level, Mount Bridgeport offers panoramic views of the Chicago skyline. Palmisano Park is a successful example of urban land reclamation and environmental restoration, blending natural beauty with industrial past.
Tumblr media
Though our project is on Mount Bridgeport, below the hill is a little bit of the original Stearns Quarry, now a popular fishing pond.

MANIFESTO ::
Same But Different
Tumblr media
MANIFESTO | Same But Different is an international day for public actions for freedom for all people. Each year on the two equinoxes, spring and autumn, when the duration of day and night is approximately equal around the globe. In this spirit of cosmic equality, Same But Different serves as a global connection for people performing together in public spaces. This sharing of time and space brings us closer together as a temporary (global) community by encouraging non-violent expressions for locally specific conditions through performance art. Everyone is welcome to participate with openness and in solidarity, embracing and embodying diversity whilst acknowledging each other’s individual circumstances, difficulties, and conflicts.
For this purpose, everyone is welcome to join and/or organize a group performance. The following conditions should be fulfilled if there are no external restrictions:
The event should take place as close as possible to the dates of the equinox(es)
The event encourages performative group work with at least two people performing together
The event should take place in a public space.
The event is open so offers the possibility for everyone interested to get involved

HISTORY: Same But Different
Tumblr media
This idea of exploring the interconnected role of the performative collaboration and the citizen in shaping and transforming public space has been a fundamental endeavor of Same but Different (Equinox) and its artists worldwide since a symposium hosted by Bbeyond in Belfast in 2017. During this event, Chumpon Apisuk proposed a day of public action as a follow-up to Same Difference: Equinox to Equinox (September 2016), where 283 artists from around the world (45 locations in 29 countries) worked together in public spaces.
Apisuk said, "It is the day that all states must recognize and allow actions from the people which are peaceful and non-violent. This day of action can be with or without context, but for the recognition of all people’s rights to share the public space together, in solidarity with each other, in respect of each other’s rights to share the same public space, as well as the time.”
More and more countries are experiencing social unrest due to the rise of governmental restrictions on basic human rights. Every continent is experiencing some form of repression of civil liberties, be it individual, social, economic, political, religious, cultural, or environmental. These rights are at the forefront of what makes us human and shape civil society.
The global discourse initiated by Same but Different (Equinox) is based on an openness to talk about public space as a social and political sphere. The pandemic has increasingly shown us that public space is essential for community life. It is a place of physical creation that is repeatedly claimed and interpreted by a variety of groups and movements.

About the Vernal Equinox
The 2025 equinox occurs at 5:01 AM on Thursday, March 20th.
Tumblr media
The vernal equinox is an astronomical phenomenon when the sun crosses the celestial equator and day is equal to night. The length of daylight continues to grow and nights become shorter until the summer solstice. The March equinox marks the beginning of astronomical spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Equinoxes are the only two times a year that the sun rises due east and sets due west. At the exact location where the sun’s plane crosses the equator, the sun is directly overhead, and no shadows are cast. Because the Great Pyramid is on the equator, it casts no shadow at noon on the spring equinox.
Neopagans observe the March equinox (referred to as Ostara) as a cardinal point on the Wheel of the Year. One of the four pagan cross-quarter festivals and a major Sabbath for witches, the Spring Equinox is the day to celebrate the reunion of the Earth Mother Demeter with her long lost daughter Persephone, who has been languishing in the underworld throughout the long winter nights. This is the Greek version of the ancient pagan celebration of the coming ascendancy of the Sun, and the rebirth and renewal of plant life.
On the equinox, the Earth's axis is perpendicular to the Sun's rays.
