i do think it’s hilarious by the late seasons that they won’t let sam say the word vegetarian with his mouth. like i’m aware they didn’t want to give him a character trait they’d have to remember and stick to for real but they treat it like how a 00s tv show would treat a woman calling herself a lesbian. just allusions. i’m thinking about when dean makes bacon and sam says like “dean, you know i don’t eat…” and then just. trails off. before saying the word meat. but dean’s like no it’s fake bacon! and the conversation goes on. also when sam and eileen make breakfast and dean makes some comment about whether it’s real bacon “because you know you…” and then trails off again. WHY are they DOING this. #theysilencedhim the cw had a list of banned words like the tumblr tags and “vegetarian” was one of them

People will be like ‘John Winchester is an evil abusive two dimensional alcoholic father insert’ and then they’ll be like ‘Supernatural is only worth watching after Season 4’.

And that honestly explains everything. I don’t care how many people wanna be like ‘wahwahwah John is the worst’ because they wanna woobify Dean and outsource all of his personality traits they don’t like onto John. Like are you like that irl? Do you just go around acting like a total asshole and be like ‘I have daddy issues so you have to overlook every time I am independently shitty because I’m sad uwu’. Dean doesn’t even do that! And in the canon he loved his Dad.

I’m not dying on the hill of John is a good father- he had a whole other kid behind their backs which everyone ignores so they can make up a bunch of worse stuff- but I still thought it was incredibly lame of him.

But John wasn’t this flat cardboard template of bad dad that beats his kid- like Bobby’s father for comparison. He was way more complicated and he was insane and terrified but he loved his boys and kept them alive against impossible odds. He was in survival mode.

I’m so worried for the future of fiction if people are really that intent on stopping to triage character’s emotional needs during a life or death event.

Some discussions on here are like watching someone show up to interview a person who is currently running screaming from a polar bear and going ‘your abrasive behaviour is a source of trauma for those around you’ because they snap at them.
