Some Easter Decorating Ideas

The Easter bunny is hopping down your bunny trail so it’s time for some Easter decorating ideas and to get festive. When it comes to Easter home decorations, you have the themes of rabbits, eggs, flowers, pastels with a fun and lively flare.
Let’s start with eggs. There are so many different ways to decorate them. If you don’t like to dye then go sparkles. Mix the glue with the sparkles then brush on. Some people use permanent markers. Then there’s cloth patterns you can glue on. Use the Japanese Washi tape that have all sorts of designs. Cut them in different angles and stick them on.
Then there’s the traditional dyeing. That means all bets are off in so many different directions. Go the reliable and old fashioned way of 8 drops of food coloring in 1 cup of hot water and 1/4 cup of vinegar. Make sure the eggs are fully dry after dyeing before you try the next dye for that egg.
With the left over dye, dye some pages from an old book you’re never going to use and create homemade Easter wreaths. Use the equivalent of a 1/2 page and wrap into cones then paste together to create a ring on a paper plate then elaborate however you see fit. Or cut the pages into vertical strips and glue around the paper plate in whatever design you can imagine. Make sure you cut a hole in the middle of the paper plate or color it or put glitter on it. You can always take those strips of dyed paper and glue or tape them into rings and create an Easter paper chain to hang over the windows, doors or where ever inside. All of these tips are great for the kids to do.
How about an Easter door decoration using an umbrella turned upside down then filling with flowers? Never would have thought of that one. Got that one from Better Homes and Garden. On that note, outside door decorations can be used in so many ways. Use an Easter basket filled with flowers is the most festive and cost effective. Colored yarn is also good to add to Easter decorations.
These are just some ideas to get you started and make sure to check out our DIY Easter Basket tips. Just remember to color it up through dyed eggs, flowers, home crafty designs, bunny rabbits and don’t forget the chocolate!

Home Decor Trends for 2017!
Do you enjoy keeping up with trends in home decor? Would you like to keep your home updated while letting it speak about who you are? Sam's Furniture and Appliance can help you with that!

What's hot in 2017? Green! According to color guru Pantone, the color of the year will be "Greenery," a zesty green that symbolizes hope and new beginnings. Expect fresh yellow-greens to pop up in everything from clothing to makeup, furniture to linens. Use it as a wall color for an inexpensive and easy way to keep up with the latest color trend, or let it pop in a piece of accent furniture in a neutral-toned room! Climbing plants are a natural way to bring in the green, too.
Neutrals haven't left the decorating scene in 2017, and they come in a variety of colors and textures. Cork is a hot material for entire walls, and colors and textures of nature (such as terra cotta, spices, and re-purposed wood) bring a sense of calm and--in the case of cork--functionality to the home. Try accenting a room with wooden floors with an area rug that brings in some of these natural colors, or relax on a spicy red sofa with chaise.
Don't just stick with the earthy browns when it comes to neutrals, however! Keep in mind that a muted gray works just as well on furniture, walls, and area rugs, and the 2017 green pops well against it. Jewel tones also work well with the neutrals, and since upholstered, tufted pieces are in this new year, why not try this recliner or a new king-sized bedroom set for style AND comfort?
Color, texture, and pattern all add to the ambiance of a home, but a trend that simply cannot be ignored is the incorporation of ENERGY STAR, smart appliances into various rooms of our homes. An updated, big-screen smart television is a fun way to bring in the new year (especially before the Super Bowl, March Madness, or the World Series sneaks upon us)! Make your life a bit easier, too, with Samsung's state-of-the-art technology in this energy-saving, smart care washer and dryer set.
Whether you want to update an entire house, a room, or just add a few accents here and there, be sure to visit Sam's Furniture and Appliance on the web or at one of our four Dallas-Fort Worth locations! We offer financing options, such as our credit-rebuilding SmartLease program, as well as affordable prices on all-new, quality home furnishings. Your satisfaction is our goal!

Tips to Keep Your Furniture Looking Maaahvelous!

Now that you have just bought or leased your dream furniture keeping it clean and beautiful is easier than you think. As long as you don't make any faux pas like use an all-purpose cleaner for wood furniture you will be able to keep your wonderful new pieces of furniture in great shape.
For normal cleaning, start by vacuuming any dirt or dust that is on it - especially in the crevices. (Reminds us about a story we heard recently about these lucky sofa-cleaners!) Use use the vacuum attachment to get any crumbs or dust out.
Next - either wipe it down your favorite leather cleaner product. Then wipe down the furniture with a cloth that has just enough of the cleaner to go over the surface. Dry with a towel and then condition the leather again with a leather conditioner that can easily be found at your local store or online
Cleaning and conditioning leather furniture will add years to its use instead of your favorite piece becoming cracked or frayed. It doesn't require a deep clean but just this touch up 2-4 times a year. Just mark it on your calendar you will be glad you did when you still have that special piece of furniture in fine shape. The rest of the time you just need to do a simple dusting to keep the furniture nice.

For wood furniture - just be aware that most commercial polishes and sprays have either petroleum distillates or silicone oil to offer some protection for your wood. So don't use too much product, because it can cause buildup that combines with dirt to create a dull and sticky film. That is why when using these readily available products make sure to buff well to avoid this buildup and never use any products with a wax protectant.
In fact, most of the wood products that Sam’s Furniture sells are so well built and designed, that normal cleaning and dusting should be all that you need to do to keep your products looking great, year round!
An easy tip for just getting rid of any rings in the wood from water cups is to use just a little bit of mayonnaise to make the surface smooth again. Another trick for just smoothing out any nicks or scratches is to use Old English Scratch Cover it works beautifully and makes a big difference in the wood. Also keep wood pieces out of direct sunlight and direct heat will keep it from fading or becoming damaged over time.

Welcome Autumn…Tips on how to get your home ready for the fall!

Summer has played host to outdoor gatherings with barbecue and fireworks, pool parties and homemade slushies, but with the arrival of autumn, the time has come for the inside of our homes to take on the task of welcoming friends and family. Start with a thorough outdoor/indoor checkup and cleaning.

Changing out colors and textures is a quick and easy way to update your home's interior for the change of season. Embrace autumn's palette by changing summer's linens to fabrics such as wool, felt, and flannel in warm hues and plaids on pillows and throws. Exchange summer bedding for fluffy comforters or quilts in fall colors, keeping an extra blanket folded across the foot of the bed for those cool fall nights. Don't forget the windows: drapes or curtains in heavier fabrics embody the season with their weight and energy-efficiency. A new area rug can bring all of your colors together while adding an element of texture to your flooring.

Consider furniture updates as well with Sam's and our convenient and affordable SmartLease Ownership program. An overstuffed recliner by the fireplace beckons a reader to come curl up in it, and a comfortable new loveseat and sofa can give you the seating you need for your fall holiday entertaining. And let's not forget game day! Bigger is better when it comes to watching football on television, and Sam's can help you choose the electronics you need for a true game-on experience!

If your heart leaps at the colorful foliage, embrace autumn by bringing the beautiful outdoor palette indoors! Then enjoy the comfort of your new furniture from Sam's, have a piece of pumpkin pie, and roast a few chestnuts to celebrate the blissful change of season!

How to Maintain and Clean Your Washers and Dryers
We don’t realize how important our home appliances are until they quit working. Learn how to maintain and clean your appliances to prevent problems, and extend their lifespan. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and keep that owner’s manual somewhere handy.

Washing Machines The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) offers these tips to keep your washer working safely and efficiently:
• Prevent mold, mildew, and odors from developing in your washer by removing clothes promptly when the wash cycle is complete. • The type, and amount, of detergent you use matters. For instance, newer high-efficiency machines require HE (high- efficiency) detergent. Do not use more laundry soap than recommended on the product's label. • Once a month, with the washer empty, run it through a cycle using a cup of bleach and the hot water setting.

Clothes Dryers The AHAM’s has some important tips for the cleaning and maintenance or your dryer also:
• “AHAM recommends the use of rigid sheet metal or corrugated semi-rigid sheet metal venting material. Never use coiled-wire foil or plastic venting material.” • Never keep anything flammable near your dryer. • Regularly clean behind the machine and inspect the venting tube to make sure it is tightly connected at both ends. Look for damage, such as a crushed or punctured tube. • Your dryer must vent directly to the outside; locate the vent and keep it clear of clogs. • Make sure to clean out the lint filter after every load. If it is clogged the air moving through the dryer slows down and the time needed to dry clothes goes up. Also, some dryers will over heat and shut off while drying – the drum will still rotate and blow but you won’t know the heating elements are shut off.

Have your appliances, especially dryers, inspected by a professional service technician occasionally; consult your owner’s manual for their recommendation.

5 Insider Tips on How to Take Care of Your Mattresses
The experts at Sam's Appliance & Furniture routinely work with customers who take advantage of our SmartLease Ownership Program to buy Corsicana or Sierra Sleep mattresses. A part of our customer service commitment is a consumer education program that ensures buyers know how to maintain their products. We have five insider tips on how to take care of your mattresses and keep them looking great while providing an excellent sleep experience.

1. Freshen with air. Mom may have taught you to make the bed immediately after getting up. But by following her advice, you trap humidity between the mattress and the sheets. Every once in a while, take off the bedding and just let the air circulate.
2. Add baking soda and a vacuum. Counteract smells and any collection of detritus by sprinkling baking powder on your mattress. Let it sit for an hour or so and then vacuum it up. You get rid of the baking soda, smells, dust, and hair.

3. Cover it up. It is possible to avoid moisture and other problems by covering your mattress with a waterproof protective. A staple in the homes of allergy sufferers, this inexpensive accessory ensures that spills, hair, and body moisture never reach the mattress.
4. Rotate it. In the past, you could turn over mattresses to allow for even wear. Nowadays, manufacturers no longer make a double-sided design. That said, you can still rotate your mattress to put the foot area at the headboard. Doing so a few times a year allows for even wear.
5. Use the right frame. You may still use a typical frame that adjusts for size and permits the use of slats to hold the mattress. If you are buying newer model mattresses, however, remember that they frequently require the support only a brand and model-specific base provides. Although you can save money at the onset by keeping the old setup, you spend more in the long run because the mattress will not last as long.
Follow these tips on how to take care of your mattresses, and they will reward you with a long performance. Of course, when you notice sagging, creaking, and uneven edges, it is time to replace the product. For more information, visit us at www.SamsFurniture.com or visit any one of our 4 local locations.

Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute: Tips to Start the Holiday Shopping Now!
Even though you might be excited about the holiday season, you might not be looking forward to one particular part of it -- holiday shopping. Spending all of that money, finding the perfect gifts for everyone on your list and dealing with the holiday crowds can be a huge hassle. Luckily, you do not have to wait until the last minute...instead, follow these tips to start the holiday shopping now.
Check Out Sales and Clearances Don't assume that all of the best deals can be found during the summer months. Many retailers have back-to-school sales, Labor Day sales and more. Looking for great deals all throughout the fall can help you save money and get some of your shopping out of the way now rather than later. Here at Sam's Appliance & Furniture, for example, we have plenty of clearance and sale options that would make perfect gifts.

Start Saving So many people wait until winter to start saving money, but it's best to start socking away a little bit of money now rather than later. Then, you don't have to worry about as much of a financial pinch when the winter season does roll around.

Buy Group Gifts Instead of buying separate gifts for everyone on your list, consider buying group gifts. For example, if you are shopping for a couple, consider buying a nice piece of furniture rather than two separate his-and-hers presents. This can help streamline your shopping process and can help it seem as if you are getting more for your shopping budget.

Buy as You Go Consider picking up small items, such as stocking stuffers, as you go rather than waiting until December. Then, you'll have a nice collection to "shop from" when the holiday season rolls around.

Getting started with holiday shopping now can be a great help. If you want to enjoy a less stressful holiday season, consider these helpful tips. Make sure to check out our website, www.SamsFurniture.com to view all of our great deals!

Makeovers to Do Before Fall!
The leaves will be changing and the days will be turning chilly sooner than we think. This is a good time to think about a room makeover since many of these sweltering summer days seem to find us indoors anyway.
We tend to change out home accessories for each season but this might be the time to make a more substantial change. How about a whole room makeover from top to bottom? Pick one room that really needs some attention and concentrate on it. Do you wish for a more efficient kitchen when you are doing holiday cooking or would you like to finally make that extra bedroom a guest bedroom instead of a catch-all room with no purpose?
Here are 3 makeovers to enhance your home before fall arrives:

1. Dining Room. It will soon be the season for entertaining, so re-doing your dining room will make it more inviting for family and friends. Maybe it could use some paint touch-ups or a new color altogether. How about the light fixture over the table? An updated light fixture could add a whole new look to the room without much expense. You may want a new dining room set if yours really has seen better days. Or, you just might want to make minor changes by getting new chairs or recovering, repainting or staining those you do have. A new area rug under the table or a new window treatment could be the fresh new focal point of the room.

2. Bathroom. A bathroom makeover is fun to do because the room is smaller. You can justify the expense of some pricier items, such as new floor and shower tiles because you don't have a big area to cover. Even if you aren't going to do a total makeover, a new vanity or new faucets can make the room look totally different. A change of accessories like new towel bars, mirrors or a small shelf over the toilet, will give your bathroom a look you love.

3. Guest bedroom. Making that spare catch-all room a 'real' room is a great project to do right before guests will be arriving for the holiday season. Declutter, paint and add a new window treatment to freshen things up. You can install closet organizers or have them installed if you are not a DIY kind of person. If you need a bedroom set, we have many beautiful pieces in our collection for your new room. Or even better, why not treat yourself and put the new furniture in your room and your current furniture in the guest bedroom?
If you need ideas and inspiration for how to remodel or decorate, there is a website that you won't want to miss. Go to houzz.com for an amazing collection of full color photos for every part of your home, including outside.
Sam's makes it easy for you to make your home more beautiful. Our quality brand name home furnishings, great prices and superior service are something we are very proud of. We would be glad to answer any questions you might have. Please stop in to see us or visit our website, www.SamsFurniture.com. We would love to help!

3 Easy Tips For Transitioning To Fall Decor
Now that fall is officially here, it’s time for every house-proud homeowner to turn their attention indoors and focus on all of the cozy warmth that comes with the season of colorful leaves and pumpkin pies.
Get into the spirit of the season with Sam’s Appliance and Furniture. This Fort Worth, TX, area retailer has been the go-to source for tasteful but affordable furniture and home decor for families since 1946. The friendly teams at each Sam’s location are genuinely invested in helping you create an elegant, welcoming atmosphere in your home, which is just one reason they have earned a reputation as one of the best furniture stores around. Just in time for fall, they have a few simple decorating tips that will help your home glow with the warmth of autumn:
Change The Colors: For an easy seasonal adjustment, swap out or add to your color palette with reds, oranges, and yellows. Rotate in new drapes in heavier fabrics and darker palettes, exchange the existing throw pillows on your sectional sofas for some accents in more fiery shades, and consider a new area rug to bring it all together.

Light The Fireplace: A crackling fire in the common area is the best way to welcome the onset of the new season. If you don't have a fireplace, consider using rustic wood to fashion a festive centerpiece for your dining table or coffee table.
Add More Blankets: Beds are one of the best vehicles for seasonal design tweaks because linens are so easily changed. Add heavier weight blankets and throws to your beds, and make sure to include the guest room. Put a vase full of seasonal flowers on the nightstand or bureau for an extra special finishing touch.

For more fall decorating ideas, visit a Sam’s Appliance and Furniture showroom near you, call them at (817) 382-6001, or visit them online.
