It was then, somehow, that Tybalt became speechless. He felt he knew the answer, ached to scream it out loud for everybody to hear, but... no words would come.

"When did I, personally, do anything to dishonor your clan? My brother, maybe, he's been kind of crass with Juliette, so I could understand. But me? All I was and all I am is the little boy that spent every recess playing with you. That's who I'll always be, no matter how many times you punch me in the face."

She reached her hand out and stole the cigarette from between his fingers, bringing it to her lips and inhaling slowly. He watched her with fascination and a little bit of outrage. Those things were getting really expensive, too much to share. Yet, he did not protest her action outright. She knew the rudeness of what she’d done would be cancelled out by this acceptance of him, of what he was. Flaws and all.
