Further theory confirmation: Sangwoo’s mother abused him emotionally and sexually

It was hinted at in all the future chapters, but in Chapter 27 we are, for the first time, presented with evidence of said abuse.

Before, Sangwoo’s father was portrayed as the main aggressor, which he certainly was, using violence against his wife and child and instilling fear in them. However, this is the first time we are shown that Sangwoo is terrified or at least severely affected by his mother’s treatment of him, as well.

Sangwoo is shown to have some form of PTSD, hallucinating his mother in the kitchen, cleaning up his mess and calling for him.

The guilt and emotional blackmail is ever-present in all these hallucinations.

“Can’t you hear your mother calling?”

“How can you do this to your poor mother?”

When Sangwoo tries to ignore the hallucinations and subsequently “his mother calling”, she doesn’t leave him alone.

Quite the opposite, she is shown to come up to his rooom and persistently demand entrance, screeching at him when he doesn’t open up,

The hallucination is likely a flashback and he’s reliving a  situation that actualy happened to him while she was still alive.

This violent, forced entry into his only safe retreat in the house heavily hints at her sexually mistreating Sangwoo as well, having no respect at all for his own psychological and physical borders.

If Sangwoo did not do as he she wanted him to, his mother would employ emotional-blackmail, claiming he was being “like his father” who didn’t treat her well. 

Here he is only being “made to” clean up, but from the previous scene and the Oh’s domestic situation, it’s easy to imagine how she used this guilt to coerce young Sangwoo into showing her any form of (sexual) affection that her abusive husband was having her miss out on, effectively compensating for him.

This is shown in the bathroom scene. Once Yoonbum rejects him, Sangwoo projects his mother onto him: how she would (purposefully) withdraw any affection for him, and emotionally blackmail him with his father if he did not do what she wanted him to.

He is enraged and resentful that Yoonbum is not showing him the affection he “deserves”, the one he “owes” him.

With his anger raised, Sangwoo switches personalities in the blink of an eye, becoming his violent father who abused (and likely also raped) his mother, and turns the same kind of violence onto his own partner.

(It’s shown that his jealousy for Yoonbum’s uncle is still ever present, and unlikely to go away any time soon)

But image of Yoonbum choking on air triggers memories of a scene he may have witnessed as a child (whether he actually saw it, or was standing outside the bathroom and listening in).

He draws parallels between himself and his father and realizes he is about to go down the path of his father.

And vows not to become like him, for Yoonbum’s sake.

This will probably be the only fanart I ever do of Killing stalking because after that last chapter I called it quits. I’m usually quite resilient but that was just outside of what I’m able to deal with QvQ
