Empty House
.
There is a House at the end of the narrow road. No one lives there. Occasionally people come there only if they have lost their way – strayed too far from the main road. They stop, look at the fence, take a deep breath and turn around. Some people talk of Ghosts. Others say they just can’t remember. There is a House at the end of the narrow road. Someone once, used to call it home.
.
.
I love these kind of low light Village landscapes. There is feeling of melancholy mixed with mystery and peace in these settings which are topped off with the sound of crickets and smell of grass. The inspiration behind this painting is a photograph by the brilliant filmmaker/photographer @achalmishra. I immediately fell in love with it the moment I saw it.
.
I have been painting with watercolour since I was a little kid. When I shifted to Digital Painting few years ago, I assumed I would never see the familiar marks, textures and vibrant paper tones of my childhood in this world of bright screens. Now I’m slowly rediscovering them using this technique of landscape painting and experimenting with different photoshop brushes. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Cheers

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
.
What does a memory look like? Maybe the way the golden light that floods a room on a summer evening. Maybe just the sky on a rainy day from way back in school. Maybe a look from someone you once knew – maybe even loved.
.
I feel memories change shape as time passes. Slowly but steadily as one grows older, emotions keep draining from older memories until they become just a series of occurrences observed at a distance with no emotions to colour our eyes. I think that is when one sees the beauty of just being in the moment – not reacting or judging. But simply being. Until it grows still older and fades away like all things do.
.
.
With this image I tried to get into Character study with this new style. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Cheers

"In a good book the best is between the lines."
- A Sweedish proverb
.
I was having a conversation with @kaalidal the other day about how a long time after I've read a good book it becomes indistinguishable from my own memories and experiences. I do not remember the exact plot but a few striking images that it had formed inside me and more importantly how it made me feel overall. As if it is something which happened to me!
.
This image is inspired from my earliest memories of reading laying in the open against the evening sun through the trees. It is a feeling I still go back to and cherish from time to time. It is one of those experiences that has shaped me in a lot of ways I think.
.
So yeah. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think. What are your most cherished memories of reading? Also, book recommendations please :)
.
Cheers

The Stone Carver : When he finally reached his destination after the excruciating journey, the Stone Carver saw nothing but a group of boulders in the small clearing in the forest. Was this the place Teacher had been telling him about for so long?! It’s nothing! It’s just boulders! He would have been very disappointed had he been the same man who had left home all those years ago. But the journey had changed him.
.
As soon as he placed his hand on one of the boulders, he understood all of it. He picked a spot and began to meditate. He had set out to become the best stone carver there ever was - to create something that never was and never again could be. He now realized that it was with him all along. Finally, he can be one with his material – now he is stone, now he is free.
.
.
This image and short shortstory is inspired from a still from the trailer of an upcoming film "The Unknown Craftsman" by Amit Dutta. I loved the trailer and the tranquility of this image really stood out for me. I really enjoyed making this piece. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Cheers

The Key
.
Something drew little Jane to that place. There was something about the colour of the walls. Whenever they passed by, she would ask Mom to wait just a little longer by the Garbage Bin so she could look at her favourite part of town for a little longer. She always believed that there is a hidden door somewhere which only she could open. She was convinced that the place where the two walls met, was a gate to an unknown land filled with mystical creatures and marvellous adventures.
.
One can only imagine her excitement when on her 5th birthday, Mom gave her the key to the door she always knew existed and took her to her favourite spot. Slowly but surely Jane walked up to her spot. The key turned, the magic began. The key which Mom had given little Jane that day was a piece of white Drawing chalk. Her world was now open!
.
.
This image is a recreation of a photograph by Magnum photographer @constantine.manos. It appeared in his 1995 photobook "American Colour". These are a series of fascinating images and I was drawn to them especially because of their use of direct sunlight and colurs and mood.
.
I tried a new digital painting style with this image (similar to traditional painting). Hope you like it. Let me know what you think in the comments.
