Shauna and Callie have got to be one of my favorite dynamics in Yellowjackets. I mean Shauna never wanted her in the first place, but she accidentally gets her own twisted mini-me; she loves her desperately, but she doesn't like her. She's terrified of corrupting her, of letting any of her trauma even touch her, because she believes it'll turn Callie into her. So she withdraws, hides, plays the perfect suburban mother, lets her daughter see tiny glimpses of who she really is. The older Callie gets the more she realizes she doesn't know her mother at all. She starts looking for answers, for pieces of Shauna's past. Anything to connect with the mother who's been behind a wall all her life. It becomes an obsession. She's desperate to understand, to unravel her mother, to be let in. She emulates her, tries to impress her, tries to prove that she's worthy of it, that the two of them are the same. And Shauna realizes that by trying to protect Callie from her past, she's turned her into a mirror.

Something about how in Shauna's mind her son looked like Jeff, but Callie looks like her. Something about Shauna trying so hard not to let Callie become another her. Something about how Shuana feels like she doomed Callie just by being her mother. Something about the child Shauna idealizes looking nothing like her. Something about Shuana believing that Callie is too much like her. Something about Shauna wondering if her son is better off dead, because she never got the chance to fuck him up.
