Nan completely forgetting about the bill and being happy with running away seemed so out of character for me. She spent this whole season, enjoying being the duchess, helping push change, and being a bad ass bitch in politics. Yes, she faltered in that when she ran to Italy, but once she saw what she could do with the power. She left Guy and her sister behind for it.

It almost seems to me, they made her change her mind so quickly to make Theo not seem villainous in taking that away from her. In taking a powerful position from a woman- a rarity and something life changing— who was willing to use it for good. Because without a sudden mood change from Nan, that shit is villainous and is incredibly in character for him. Theo is a man blinded by privilege who is only capable of using it when it benefits him or women he “loves”. It didn’t matter to him what Nan could do with that power, who she could protect, or what change she could make because he no longer “loved”her.

The way Seadown has personally traumatized every buccaneers (except Mabel) in some way or another is sick.

Lizzy, Jinny is obvious. Him killing Richard and the reason behind Conchi being a widow. Him chasing down Nan, threatening her and even putting hands on her. And even Honoria, again Richard’s death but it’s also obvious, he’s done more that she was either aware of at some point or was the victim of from the very beginning. Seeing as she saw through his charming personality in S1 with that “he’s a monster” line

That whole friend group needs to hunt him like a pack of dog in a very dark and deep forest. Jail is not enough.

the buccaneers is a reminder that i can in fact hate almost everyone in a series and still watch it. clinging to mabel like theo to his ego and self pity and being terrible (can you tell who my least favorite is

after all this i just feel like. okay but did dickie HAVE to die. did we really all have to go through that. couldn't he have stayed alive and continued to help with the family business, managing the estate, being conchita's himbo boytoy? if we absolutely have to give dickie and conchie drama this season, maybe she suffers a pregnancy loss and richard supports her through it. maybe there's more emphasis given to richard's father's death, or miss testvalley comes back and dickie's mental health suffers, or the pair take another charge like cora under their wing who proves to be more troublesome. i do think seadown dying by suicide after jinny and the baby escape would be almost as tragic for the marable family as losing dickie, especially so soon after losing their father, plus the narrative is basically treating him as dead since he's in jail. i just feel like the writers didn't know what to do with a happy couple and killed richard off for shock value, when the audience needs to see at least one semi-solid couple so we know what guy and nan and lizzy and theo and everyone else is fighting for. like did we really need to do all that

Okay wait. Is Mabel going to scandalize herself in order to protect Lizzy’s reputation??

Edit: I keep thinking about this. It would make the most sense right?? like- Conchi and Jinny have babies where an adulterous rumor could affect them. So they’re out of the run to be making a sacrifice like that but Lizzy WANTS a “normal” life as a wife to someone and not to be known as a mistress. Mabel, on the other hand has no interest in husbands or a “normal” life. So what if she takes that burden of the rumor (following the “one sister’s sacrifice, for another’s freedom” as last season final) and then runs off to some where it can’t follows her. FRANCE.

I’m not saying this is going to happen and is WAY more about the potential of the possibility than a theory. Because I don’t trust the writers like that. But I’m just thinking out loud.

As much as I am ragging on season 2 of the buccaneers, it’s all about the same issues that season 1 had (pacing, stupid love triangle, the interesting plot lines being sidelined) and unfortunately I did sign up for this and as much as I hate it, I love it too.

“Nan has no right to be upset!!” “She doesn’t want Theo anyways” I wouldn’t touch any of my friend’s EXES with ten foot pole, much less sleep with a man they’re still technically married to and have a complicated history and relationship with as a whole. I love Lizzy but she should have never gotten involved with Theo. Not because it was her being his affair but because she is Nan’s childhood friend. And especially not after Lizzy pushed/supported Nan in running off to Italy. Of course she going to feel betrayed and probably that it was a PLANNED betrayal too. Even if that actually wasn’t Lizzy intent when she supported her.

That being said, I don’t think Nan actually leaks or helps Hector leak the affair but something makes Lizzy assume she does and in the buccaneers fashion, instead of actually communicating, they do the whole miscommunication thing.

While I’m not pro Honoria leaving Mabel. The writers now have an opportunity to write a really great angsty scene of Mabel emotionally yearning/crying over the “ugly vase” from 02x04 as a show of her missing Honoria. It could parallel the scene in season 1 of Honoria and the music box and I do think it’d be very sad in a way I need. As someone that does enjoy angst
