Lord Hermes is everywhere I go.

I see Him in the birds that migrate South for the winter. I see Him in the friendly face of the mailwoman who brings my packages and always leaves a treat for my dog.

I feel Him in the crafty half-truths I tell interviewers in the hope of landing a job that makes me happy. I feel Him in the careful selection of every word I use so that those around me may take me seriously.

His presence is warm and comforting, yet He always says what needs to be said, even when I don't want to hear it. And for that, I appreciate him immensely.

Since Lady Hestia is the first and last of the Gods, I like to give her the first Good morning and last Goodnight of the day, and this are the prayer I use for that. I add to them if it's a particular day and I feel I'm going to need to feel her presence more or express more gratitude for the events of the day, but this is the base I tend to fall back on.

Morning prayer

Good morning, Lady Hestia.

As I rise from the bed to start the new day, I thank you for protecting me and guarding my rest from outside and inside dangers alike.

May I keep with me the light and warmth of your fire to guide me through what may come during the day ahead.

Night prayer

Lady Hestia, Keeper of the sacred fire at the heart of Olympus, I thank you for your presence in this day and pray to you now that it's time to rest.

Please, let me lay within the circle of your hearth, so that I may rest protected from the cold and the darkness within the comfort of its warm light.

May the crackling of its flames fill my mind, so that my burning thoughts can become quiet like embers simmering under the ashes, letting me rest peacefully until morning without fearing their heat.

Spell Jar to Find A House

My lease is up soon, and the husband and I are looking for a new place to live. We’re doing a bunch of legwork, too, but a little extra oomph is always nice, and this spell jar worked well last time, so we figured we’d do it again. And this time, I’m sharing it with all of you!

Supplies:

a jar or bottle

a piece of paper

a writing utensil

a piece of ribbon or string

at least one jingle bell

a tea light or other candle

Optional:

amber or other offering tidbit

alcohol or essential oil or something to anoint the paper with

Steps:

1. Write your intentions on the piece of paper - type and print it, or hand write it in an appropriate color ink, or just use black, up to you.  But write exactly what you’re looking for!  What kind of house/apartment, what sort of neighborhood, what sort of roommate, and don’t forget to include your budget and timeline.

2. Roll up that lil piece of paper, and anoint it if you wish - we used a smidge of brandy, but you could use whatever type of liquid is most appropriate to your practice.  Please don’t use alcohol if you’re below the legal age for consumption.

2. Tie that paper roll up with the ribbon or string, and tie the jingle bell to it.  We used two jingle bells because… louder.  Mostly.

3. Plop that sucker in the jar. 

4. Add the little offering thing to the jar if you wish - skip this step if you don’t work with gods or spirits, because the idea is that I’ll be giving the three pieces of amber as an offering in a fire after we find the right house.  It’s a bribe.  Also, careful not to use anything that will shatter or break when you shake the jar…  Once it’s in, close the jar.

5. Charge the jar with your intent!  First, think about what you wrote down, what you want.  Then imagine what it will be like to find the perfect place - the excitement!  Third, imagine what it will feel like to live in this new place - the happy contentedness!  Light a tea light or some other kind of candle on the jar lid to seal the deal.  Or use an electric candle for like an hour, maybe.

6. Once that’s done, shake the jar and wish!  Keep shaking and wishing every day, like you’re spamming a message board.  And don’t forget to do the legwork: post ads, look at ads, call leasing offices, get a realtor, etc.  Do what needs to be done, and you’ll find what you seek.

Home protection salt bowl 🏠

I made a home protection/energy cleansing salt bowl today. You can honestly swap out any of these ingredients if they do not suit your needs but this is what I used:

I recently started dipping my toes into Hellenistic polytheism with Lady Hestia. For the longest time I've felt wary about going from one deity focused religion (catholicism) to another, worried that I'd just be shamed and had fear used against me to keep me in line, but that has never been the case in the short time I've been working with my Lady. She's so warm and comforting, and she makes me want to do better for myself and anyone who comes into my home. Her candle flickered excitedly when I cleaned and reorganized my room as my first big devotional act for her. She gives me the motivation to bake and learn new recipes. I made a devotional charm for her for my carabiner so I can always feel motivated to do my best at work so I can go back home and rest. Just yesterday she kept my apples from oxidizing long after I had peeled and sliced them while I was making tea. I've loved working with Lady Hestia so far, I've felt nothing but love and comfort whenever she makes her presence known. I'm excited to continue working with her and letting her guide me on my path

My girlfriend gave me this adorable lucky kitty with a fortune and seeds inside (which I planted with the intention of my wealth growing as the plant does) for my birthday. I decided it was the perfect thing to start my altar with since I'm working on saving up to get an apartment and live with my girlfriend. The cat is hollow so I was able to stuff some sigils inside, one for career and one for drawing in prosperity. Once I reorganize the other trinkets in my room I can add onto it and put the plant next to it for an extra boost, but for now I'm so happy with how it's turning out!
