hey are you doing ok? cause like half of Brazil is all flooded and I'm hoping you're doing alright
The floods are happening on the extreme south of the country, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, where I live.
Luckily for me and a few families, the water has not reached our houses and it has barely began to flow through Laguna dos Patos and into the sea. The thing is, truck drivers don't have access to main road tracks because they've been blocked, and most families don't get their supplies.
The water levels haven't reached their peak where i live, but in the town next to mine they're high enough to force families out of their homes and stay at their relatives' houses or seek public shelters.
it's only the beginning, because if this has happened once, it WILL happen again and much worse than the last.

Hobbes is usually described as Calvin’s imaginary friend and this annoys me so much because it’s a very reductive take on what he actually is.
Bill Watterson has been pretty clear on Hobbes’ nature. He’s not an imaginary friend, and he’s not a stuffed toy that comes to life around Calvin:
Hobbes is a study on the nature of perspective and oberved reality.
to paraphrase Watterson: “Calvin sees Hobbes one way, and everyone else sees him another.”
The blurring here gets really weird. For example, Hobbes was once left by Calvin in the woods, and remained there as though a stuffed toy that was left behind. But, on the other hand, Calvin repeatedly gets into situations with Hobbes’ help that is explicitly impossible for Calvin to have actually done on his own.
For example, Calvin once tried to do an escape artist routine, and asked Hobbes to tie him to a chair; Hobbes did so, and Calvin was stuck, and here is the key detail; Hobbes tied it in a complex knit at the very back of the chair.
This chair was tall enough that Calvin wouldn’t have been able to reach it normally, let alone while tying that knot. It is physically impossible for Calvin to have done that to himself, especially as the knot was tight enough that he could barely move afterwards.
Hobbes repeatedly does stuff than an imaginary friend just couldn’t do, but at the same time, others interact with him as a stuffed animal without issue.
(There’s also the time he apparently killed and ate a bully who was picking on Calvin but who knows what went on there.)

a quick guide to Calvin and Hobbes; every single character is secretly grappling with sadness and the existential horror that is the pain of living, except for the mean bully kid and maybe the talking tiger
the talking tiger is a dubious case because he is perceived by everyone else as but an ordinary toy and he’s got his life figured out; he’s good with his lot in life, because he’s a cat. he was surprised to find out that his species is endangered but he rolled with it better than his best friend, who laments the senseless evil of man while tiger just goes ‘no wonder i don’t meet a lot of girls’
so in brief, in calvin and hobbes everyone is either Sad, a Total Butthead, or a peculiar commentary on the nature of reality and perception. (who is sometimes Sad.)

i have genuinely gotten so steamed over people dismissing Hobbes from Calvin and Hobbes as an imaginary friend that I once wrote a long essay in a reply onto to realize too late that I wasn’t signed into that site and didnt recall the password so the world must remain forever unaware of my meta about how Hobbes is a lot weirder than just being an imaginary friend
