Hi! A post with additions from you about animal conversation made its way onto my dash, and in it you mention that blackfish is a propaganda film, could you elaborate on that? I've seen it a few times as a fan of marine biology and never really considered it!
So Blackfish was made by and for ARAs (animal rights activists), the type of people I was talking about in that reblog. People interviewed include Lori Marino, director of science for the Nonhuman Rights Project, and former SeaWorld trainer John Hargrove, who is known in the animal care community for being a real piece of work, and other known ARAs such as Howard Garrett and Ken Balcomb, who have worked with PETA as well. The documentary was partially funded by PETA, and is used to promote their website “seaworld of hurt”. It uses decades-old footage, makes misleading statements, and interviews trainers who never worked with orcas or with Tilikum, who were fired over safety issues, and/or haven’t been employed by SeaWorld in years.
People more eloquent than I and with more time than I have listed the misleading claims in Blackfish, and I’m not sure what more I can add. SeaWorld even posted a rebuttal that included sources backing up all their points, but unfortunately it does not seem to be online anymore. Here’s a copy of it.
Despite their troubled past, the SeaWorld of today is an AZA accredited leader in marine conservation, and the ARA groups figured if they could tarnish SeaWorld’s reputation, they could take on anyone. It just took a sad story, some disgruntled former employees, some cleverly cut shots, a boatload of PETA money, and some twisting of the truth.
I don’t really want to talk about it more, as marine mammals are not “my thing”, but I would suggest checking out @orcinus-veterinarius’ blog if you want more information.
#I am not an orca person I am just a humble bird and small mammal and bug person#I just know Blackfish was used as a launching point for attacks against animals in human care as a whole and recruited a lot of ARAs

how busy are you guys that you can't spend a few days sorting beetles?
#I don’t want to reblog this too many times as it gets progressively longer but#this about sums all the points I wish I had been eloquent enough to add on#fleeing to Mars so you can never even look at an animal again is just avoiding your duty to the Earth

I don’t think many people know this but this is the end goal of many Animal Rights Groups such as PETA and even Humane World for Animals (previously the Humane Society of the United States). They sincerely believe that animals would be better off having absolutely no contact whatsoever with humans. Even if it means them dying or going extinct. That’s why euthanasia rates are so high in PETA shelters and why they kidnap pets off porches.
It’s why anti-zoo sentiment is so prevalent now. Animal Rights Activists are also against conservation because it means being in contact with animals. No banding, no tagging, no counting wild populations, and especially no breeding, keeping, or educating about endangered animals in human care. Rescue and rehab as well. If a one-eyed owl can only survive in captivity, it’s better off dead. If an animal has to spend a month in rehab before it can be released into the wild, they should have just left it to die instead.
Obviously not all vegans are like this! But this is the end goal of many of the more militant groups. And they start you out small. They release seemingly well-intentioned propaganda films like Blackfish, filled with good points supported by half-truths and some outright lies, they get you thinking “you’re right, at least those animals would die in the wild rather than live another second in a cage”, and eventually you’re thinking you shouldn’t have any pets and you’re cutting open zoo cages.
Animal welfare is super important, obviously. Animal rights involve a lot of anthropomorphism and assuming that animals all want the same things that you as a human would want. That keeping an animal safe, well-fed, enriched, healthy, and happy is the same as slavery or jail, because if you’re receiving any sort of benefit from it, even just happiness, you’re using them and thus, they are suffering.
I’ve literally had vegans tell me that they can’t wait to live on Mars where they’ll never have to see another animal again, and they can smile knowing that all the animals on Earth are safe because humans have left them behind. It’s a cult based on moral purity.

how busy are you guys that you can't spend a few days sorting beetles?
#pardon my rant but I feel like a lot of people don’t realize this about veganism#even vegans#I’ve seen friends go down this route#it doesn’t end well#Also btw op is literally the most sane person on this thread Thank you for not releasing invasive species into the wild#and EVERYTHING eats mealworms they would obviously be happiest as pets where their needs are met and they’re not being picked off

It's important to remember that Luigi Mangione is being framed for murder. The "evidence" they have on him is absolute clown shoes absurd.
They're trying to win this by swaying public opinion. That's why they're doing movie deals about it and staging ridiculous photo ops.
They're gonna try to give this kid the death penalty to cover up for their own gross incompetence and in the hopes that they scare the working class out of trying to fight back.
Please don't help them do this by using his name as a synonym for political assassinations. Please do not perpetuate the idea that he's guilty.

Happy pride month specifically to folks on the asexual and aromantic spectrum who oftentimes feel isolated and left out of the conversation. You belong here as much as the rest of us and I hope that you are all loved in a way that is comforting to you.
#thanks ;_;#what a change from the Tumblr that permanently damaged my psyche and made me anxious to ever mention#that I’m asexual to other queer people

I bet if we redraw the Mona Lisa in crayon, but make her frown a little and wear a sexy but unmemorable outfit, all the Leonardo da Vinci fans will HAVE to give us money!
- Disney, probably
(and yet, the Leonardo da Vinci fans do in fact continue to give them money)

"He smiled understandingly-much more than understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced—or seemed to face—the whole eternal world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey.”

this doesn't seem to be widespread knowledge around here yet but there's a big trend among dogshit content scraper accounts to grab a real photo (usually of ✨Aesthetic Nature™✨ or something similar, which is why it's relevant to me) somewhere, and recreate it using AI to avoid crediting the photographer. this can even trick people who are somewhat familiar with the subject matter if they're not paying attention but looks incredibly wrong upon closer inspection
here is some complete garbage as an example. because these "photos" are not completely made up by AI, people into spiders know the species and will recognize their features without looking closely, getting tricked in the process. if you know spider anatomy and look closely though, both of those look like utter abominations. the original photos these two were based on are here and here, by the way
these just so happen to be things i'm familiar with and i would probably get easily fooled by AI recreations of plants or fish or whatever. my point is that if you're not an expert on everything that exists you're not immune to these, so i would probably recommend caring about photo sources unless you actively want to look at this repulsive trash

my rage increases with everything i hear about the live action lilo and stitch
what do you mean nani gives up custody of lilo.
what do you mean no jumba redemption— and he’s the twist villain???
what do you mean no pleakley in drag.
what do you mean no nani and david romance subplot.
what do you mean no gantu.
what do you mean no ugly duckling scene.
what do you mean no anti-tourism theme.
what do you mean jumba just sounds like some random american guy.
what do you mean cobra bubbles isn’t the social worker
not to mention nani’s actress being in brownface.
and more than anything— showing an indigeneous family being separated by the government, and having it be shown as a “happy ending.” the original ending was perfect. nani kept custody and gained a support system.
disney’s rise in conservatism is showing bigtime

i know it’s talked about to death but it’s really crazy that every year disney is like spinning a wheel to figure out what decent, visually superior older movie is remade to a shitty ugly husk of its self. I usually don’t care bc that’s a territory that is like a not my circus not my monkeys situation but lilo and stitch falling victim to this does feel evil and personal. jail
#stooooop giving them money#I know it’s mostly Disney adults and international audiences watching these remakes but please#y’all have to stop watching them or they’ll just keep making them#there’s a great library of older Disney movies you can watch maybe you haven’t seen them all#have you watched Treasure Planet?#Rescuers Down Under?#When was the last time you saw Hunchback or Mulan?#give em a watch if you’re in the mood for Disney#instead of watching these corporate lackluster husks of the premise they’re based on#or watch something that’s not Disney#try Prince of Egypt if you haven’t seen it#or The Iron Giant#The Secret of Nimh even

Leo looks cute! I'll ask: 4, 8, 15?
Man y’all are asking about all the characters I haven’t drawn in years lol.
Leo is basically a forest spirit. Nobody knows what they are, they have no sex or gender, they don’t talk except for birdlike chirps and squeaks (though they do seem to understand what people are saying), and they mainly eat salmon and berries like a brown bear haha. So, again, I will answer these to the best of my ability!
4. Your character is asked to name three of their strengths. What do they say?
Leo would eye you curiously, snort, and then wonder off lol
8. You character has to draw a picture of someone they love. Who that is is up to you. How does it come out?
Probably looking something like the scribble Toothless drew in the dirt in the first HTTYD movie. I’m not sure who the subject is! Leo seems fairly solitary.
15. Your character is grocery shopping. Do they stick solely to the list, or are they grabbing extra things? Do they even have a list?
Leo in a grocery store would be an absolute disaster.
Like a bear, they take whatever they can get!
